I will not rest until someone describes me the way Dr. Zucker described this sculpture: "extraordinary sculptural confection." I likes that. 😌 Washington does look pretty amazing on this sculpture - arguably outdoing the Aurelius sculpture it was based on. What a boss. Love his outfit, posture, and the overall sense of dignified power I get from looking at him.
I remember the statesman statue video, but and loved the symbolism there, but definitely prefer him here. And I'm a little embarrassed by how much I love seeing the other standing figures surrounding him. It reminds me of sculptures of the saints in playlists gone by - power in unity. It excites me. 🙃

This statue seems to me not unlike Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques-Louis David.

Part of that may be the result of the photos which I shot with a high-quality telephoto lens. The photos reveal far more clarity than I was able to see with my unaided eye. Somewhat like stage make up, the sculpture's features may be somewhat heightened to be visible from afar.

@@smarthistory-art-history but still i don't think they're wrong about the cartoonish reading. it's like a symbol of triumph and glory with a very bold black outline

@@starcapture3040 And so were the British. And the Romans were copying the Greeks. It's no sin to admire and emulate a classical form.
