Clever Clever Clever! Thank You to Poor Pitiful Pearl(Etsy) and Thank You to You. Very Creative and Beautifully Unique. Thank You for taking the time to make this video. Good things to you.
This is Exactly where my influence comes from for this work. Even though we all know "hippie" generally, it's so cool that these styles are a unique art form from this region, developed out of the resurgence of crafting and DIY (not called that then) that happened in that time in that place. And that kept going and evolving in NorCal as I grew up in the 70s and 80s. The Grateful Dead are largely responsible for keeping the dream alive up to the present. Every pair of pants I make reminds people of that time and that dream and connects younger people to it. A dream of Peace & Love, a truly worthy goal🌹
I had the first pant with flower print triangle add in patches on the outside to make bell bottoms pants that I ever saw back in 1970. Miss your dreds Julia, Blu
I have black jeans that are too small on me since I gained about 30 lbs., and I am thinking that is a great way to make them bigger so I can still wear them. Increase an inch or 2 on either side and stick in a small piece of elastic where the band is so it can give or take as I need it. Thank you for the great idea! The brain is thinking! Lol!
@@thegroovypatriot I would if I could! I am still on the east coast waiting for cancer surgery. I can only support by watching, and rewatching your youtube channel videos at the moment ❤️
Yeah definitely not taking someone’s idea -who knows how many people come to the same similar ideas all executed a bit differently and that makes it unique. I love these patchwork bell bottoms -super cool and gorgeously unique.
My mom just saw a pair like this last week and freaked out. She’s only 5” tall and they were about 6 inches too long so she asked me to make her a pair. Thanks for the tips!
Young Lady you are an Amazingly Beautiful Light of Our Lord Jesus! Thank you for your fun and happy love for others....I pray in Jesus Name that you and your dear ones are protected and blessed mightily by Jesus....Amen. ps, I just found you and I plan on attempting your design savvy...thank you. Evora A.
Great work, fun, I made a pair of hippy jeans first time, you inspired but others as well gave me the back up and ideas. So it's all good. Thanks so much!
would you measure the circumfrence of the knee area, then cut the strips of fabric in a way that would equal that circumfrence so that when you go to sew it to the knee there is no gathering? I hope that makes sense
Great stuff 😀. You've acknowledged where your influence has come from and not passed them off as your own.... Respect😉 I don't think that there's anything left that hasn't been done before. Is there such a thing as an original idea anymore?
Agree. I think we're in the era of building on things and interconnecting everything for new ideas...mash up. We're really just re-seeing all the connections anew. Thanks for watching!
@@thegroovypatriot I'd love that! With the beautiful fabrics you've added to the bell bottom, I'm guessing they need to be a similar weight to denim? Lighter weights probably wouldn't work well.
Would you ever ??? make a pair for me using some fabric from a shirt that was my Sis's? Miss her everyday. I would send you the shirt, you could use the leftover fabric for your other projects. Would you ever even consider it? Thought I would ask. Looooove your work!💕☮️
Hey Julia: did you do a video that shows how you do the alternate style with the patches that go all the way up to the waist not bell-bottom? I am trying to do it here with an old pair of jeans and would appreciate the help. Thanks.
Wish I had my tutorial made! I don't have a video showing specifically. But there's some footage of me sewing them in my 'Creative Work Life' video in my sewing playlist. I'll try and get the link here ...
@@thegroovypatriot Thanks Julia. I did them sort of the same way but did not make flair at the bottom. Will follow how you sew over top for extra strength. They made my jeans REALLY big on me now. I have to keep taking them in to fit. THANKS SO MUCH.
im lovin your style and creativity. unique, like myself.i bet we would get along great. .....i find that clothing at the stores are very boring and i like my clothes to match my style.....my only problem is that i dont know how to operate a sewing machine although i have a nice solid vintage machine that i inherited from another unique lady that was a pro with it. unfortunately she came into my life only a couple years before she passed and we never got the chance to share her knowledge. never thought she would go so soon. anyway..........do you have any advice for me please? how do i go about learning to use the machine? is it the sort of thing i will have to take a class for, or pay someone to teach me? or can it be learned by reading books, watching videos, tutorials? its weird, im an artist, i make jewelry and tie dye to sell and everything creative ive ever done has come natural to me almost like ive done it before and only needed to jog my memory and in no time i was creating amazing things, but with this im totally lost and it seems very very difficult and im kind of intimidated with the thought of it seeming so beyond hard to do. what advice could you give me please? thank you for sharing your creativity to others. i just found you and i have a feeling you have a lot of good videos, i cant wait to see. thanks again! my email is 7rubytuesday7@gmail.com if you need. (it was my email before they named a restaurant after my favorite dang song. grrrrr) haha have a great day beautiful lady
I just want to suggest that you edit your comment to take your email out. Sewing is not hard. The trick is to learn how to thread your machine. Then it's just back and forth and side to side, like dancing. I suggest you start on a simple machine like your old one (I'm assuming it's simple) or a basic Walmart one. Outside of that, I suggest UA-cam. Yes you can find what you need to know! Then if it still feels trying, let it go❤️

Great video! I was making AND wearing these DIY pants in the late 60's and early 70's in San Francisco Bay area. They are fun to make and wear!!

This is so helpful!! I'm SHORT (howdy 4 ft 8.5 🤣) but I absolutely love how bell-bottoms and flares look, so I'm definitely trying this!

What kind of sewing machine would u buy for making these and quilts. Beginner here:) Ty for the video❤️💯
Really, any kind will do the job. If you're just starting, pick up a basic Singer or Brother from Walmart

Ya, it's taken me years to figure how much jean to take out for how much I add. But generally it always makes them bigger!
Hello, can you please tell me how you get the fancy hem and how do you color the distressed areas different colors? Thank you!!
These are made from the leg bottoms of other jeans, keeping the original hems. Whatever distressing on them was already done.
You seem like such a sweet lady. Iike the kinda chick id love to sit down and drink some tea with lol
Hi, can you tell me the name of your Etsy store? 🌼🌸🐞
The links in the description below! It's called California Patchwork.
