    How is the production of a domestic fez, is it like a chicken, or does it have a certain month that starts laying eggs in it and ends in a certain month, how did the eggs grow and how many eggs are laid in a year

    • @nicolecamp5963
      @nicolecamp5963  2 роки тому

      They are still considered a game bird so they lay in spring thru summer depending on weather.

    I don't think pheasant can hatch on this temperature and humidity.

    are those regular sized chicken egg cases? that would mean pheasant eggs are a lot larger than I would expect.

    • @nicolecamp5963
      @nicolecamp5963  3 роки тому

      Pheasant eggs are about 2/3 the size of a large chicken egg. They are good sized compared to other game birds.

    • @nicolecamp5963

      They are considered mature at 6 months and have most of their adult feathers. You won't see eggs till the following spring however.

    Do you increase humidity for eggs with saddle (shipped) air cells? Or decrease? Or about the same? Upon candling, the air cells look large but I know it was caused by shipping (not evaporation) so not sure how to judge humidity. Usually the air cell starts out small and I am able to watch the air cell. I like the air cell to be 33% of the egg at lockdown. But the saddle air cell is throwing me off cause it already looks like 25% of the egg even though I know it is more superficial and not as dramatic as it appears. Just wondering what you did. Were any of these saddle air cells? Thanks

      We had 2 eggs with saddled air cells. I normally keep my humidity around 55% for all my eggs regardless if they are saddled or not. I have an incubator with a fan so it's important that I don't let the humidity go too low or it will shrink wrap and dry out the eggs. The best way I have found to hatch eggs with saddled air cell is to leave the eggs in an egg carton pointed end down in the incubator so the air cell doesn't expand in the wrong direction. I have hatched chicks this way and they seemed to do fine. It just takes a little more effort hand turning the egg.

      @@nicolecamp5963 Yeah I have a fan too (GQF MFQ styrofoam). I mostly hatch duck eggs. If someone wants two ducklings, I put two fertile duck eggs in the incubator. I have that much confidence. LOL But this is my first time hatching pheasant eggs. I did great on some shipped quail eggs from Wadley Quail in my home state of GA. But these pheasant eggs came further. I couldn't resist ShowMe's price! Mutant Melanistic! He sent me 27 on a 25 order. Culled two right away. A dot hole on one and bubbles in another. So I set 25. One was clear on day 5. Two more early dead on day 8. Down to 23. But all these look strong. Turning by hand every 4 to 6 hours. Put them in cardboard carton lids so all the eggs are touching with the large end slightly up. I like to try to synchronize the eggs by keeping them touching each other so they hatch about the same time. I don't have anyway to measure humidity except by experience of what has worked and looking at the air cell every few days. But knowing you don't increase your humidity is helpful.

      @@user-hm1rf5oj2g Ill be posting the hatching video in the next day or two. They are currently hatching. Pheasants are unique and can actually hatch 23-25 days and have a lot of healthy chicks so don't give up too early if they don't hatch all on time. I agree his prices are great! Even if you have a poor hatch its worth it.

      A hen that is broody is a good alternative to a incubator if you don't have one.

    I did my first back last year and when they started hatching they pecked a hole in the shell and that was it, when I cracked it open the sack inside was shrank right down on the chick. Humidity was at 75 after 20 days. Would you know what I did wrong?

      Did you open the incubator at all during lockdown? I would also test the humidity with another hydrometer. This is called shrink wrap when it happen.

    • @stevenrobinson7439
      @stevenrobinson7439 2 роки тому

      @@nicolecamp5963 Yes we definitely have opened the incubator during the process.
      Checked the Humidity its around 75%.
      If we open during the incubation process that is causing the shrink wrap?
