I am in the Canaries and I am happy to learn what nobody told me here!
You didn't mention keeping the narrow leaved pups, and I was told to remove the more rounded leaved ones... Maybe it has to do with our variety? They say round leaves = more leaf & less fruit!

Thanks again for your videos. They truly are the equivalent of textbooks in visual motion...

I have started cutting my large trunks lengthwise as you did to speed up the composting process

That's the way to go! Also, leaving the whole trunks will cause undesirable rot on the trunk

Thank you for the wonderful video. Do you need to cut out part of the banana root or corn that the pup was growing from? Will the pup grow back in the same place if you don't?

Yeah, if you look attentively, I cut the banana with the machete inclined towards the centre of the rhizome, in order to guarantee the meristem is cut off. If the meristem is not cut off, it will regrow. The younger the pup is, the deeper the meristem will be in the soil

@@AgroforestryAcademy Ah, that is my problem, they keep regrowing. It is very helpful when you actually show what and how you are doing, thank you.

Hey guys , big up for your work . A really fine one!
When the bed is Still young and the trees small, how do you manage the pups that are quite thin to do the cup cut?
Do you chop them as needed , in terms of shade and etc.. without doing the cup or do you wait for them to get little bit thicker ?

Nice tips and great looking plants. Just wondering if there's Panama disease (all races?) in your area? And what you do to prevent it?

Thanks for the video. Do you use any form of fertilizer on your banana trees?

How to use banana trunk in 4ft wide vegetables beds

    • @AgroforestryAcademy
      @AgroforestryAcademy  3 роки тому +2

Cut them into 4 feet long logs and split each log in half. Use the split logs for covering the bed and plant in between the logs

How would one judge the health of a banana plant grown in an earthship as the greenhouse portion faces south and most light comes from the south side rather than from above. I notice those banana plants are much stockier and the the distance between leaves is really short but they still bear fruit.

    Hey man
Are you raising most of your trees up in nursery or sowing direct? Mainly for the cashes pPea etc. Although are you seeding the bananas or just planting pups? Just about to start planting my system. Building some ideas
    Love the videos 🙏

Hey man, thanks for the message!
Mostly from seed. Some species, we plant both seeds and grafted seedlings, such as citrus, litchies, etc, that take a long time to bear fruit.
For bananas, we either use pups or micro propagated seedlings. We've got 2 videos about banana propagation: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=agroforestry+academy+banana

@@AgroforestryAcademy thanks! Ill check it out. Ive been taking a break from farming to focus on regenerating watersheds and setting up production for rural land owners. But finally just about ready to start producing again and settle things down. We produce biodynamic so its going to be interesting to see how the agroforestey systems develop. As we have really only produced market gardens for $$
