  • Sad to report that Leo died May 29, 2017 at the age of 96. We were lucky to be able to share a little bit of his life and knowledge of oxen and post it here.
    Chris Huntington chats with Leo Bolivar in this clip from the series "Voices of Lunenburg County". Leo has raised and trained about 500 pairs of oxen in his life. He and his daughter, Emilie Bolivar-Hayward, continue the family tradition on their Lunenburg County farm.

    Thanks for sharing that with us. my family (father's side) came from that area. He was born in Halifax, grandfather born in Lunenburg.Bridgewater, and others in Liverpool. Spent a summer there back in 1955. still have relatives there. Listening to Leo talk reminded me of my dad and grandad. They migrated down to Massachusetts in the late teens. Thanks again for sharing.

    Love to hear this old gentleman speak. Reminds me of my father, a wonderful man, who worked on farms most of his life.
    The good old days rmembered.

    Leo is so nice, he always used to have something kind to say when I went around with my old oxen, some men don't take to women trying to get into this sport.

    by rights, the Oxen "Pull" is in fact the Oxen "Push".. the Oxen are pushing the "harness, straps and yoke" which pulls the load..

      Dewdaahman so “by rights”, it’s a tractor push as well ?

    • @Dewdaahman
      @Dewdaahman 5 років тому

      @@irondiver292 well, the wheels of the tractor are propelling the tractor forward, yes pushing the tractor, while pulling the load..
