In this video I will be showing you how to make hand sanitizer at home using 3 ingredients!
NOTE: It is best to use alcohol that is 91% or higher but 70% is what i had on hand and what i used. - Навчання та стиль
Tried it and it works amazing. Thank you.
I also added vitamin E to help with the dryness feeling.
Had the same plan with vitamin E!
How much Vitamin E did you use and did it feel oily?? Thanx! 🐦
It will not kill the covid19 virus. Her recipe does not produce a product with an alcohol level of 60% or greater as recommended by the CDC.
@@seasonedsofisticate1901 exactly what I just commented the "recipe" For 2 parts alcohol to 1 part aloe only works when the rubbing alcohol is at least 90%.
@@seasonedsofisticate1901 the one she's using is 70%🤔
99% alcohol = 3 parts alcohol / 2 part aloe vera
91% alcohol = 2 parts alcohol / 1 part aloe vera
70% alcohol = 9 parts alcohol / 1 part aloe vera
This should be pinned
God bless you man 👍👍
Your intention is great, and it can appear to make sense at a glance.
Your hand sanitizer will remain 70% consistently because that’s the concentration of the alcohol. You adding more 70% alcohol to the cup doesn’t somehow change the percentage of the alcohol, the actual alcohol percentage it’s self does not change. the percentage of alcohol compared to
The aloe Vera maybe change but that’s doesn’t change alcohols percentage.
@@SylwekGrega according to USP and CDC guidelines hand sanitizer alcohol content is calculated by volume. So when aloe or other ingredients are added to the mixture the percent alcohol by volume is diluted.

Who’s here because there’s no more hand sanitizer at the stores?
Yes.Due to the corona Virus pandemic
Yeah and guess what. .no nore aloe vera gel either.
All of us.
Me.
Uh Me😆😆
this recipe has only 46% alcohol. To make it 65% alcohol, you need to change the 70% rubbing alcohol to 1 5/8 c and the aloe gel to 1/4 c
I had to add more aloe vera to make it a decent consistency tho. But it smells just like store-bought hand sanitizer.
@@SouthernBeautie2010 When you add more aloe you reduce the concentration of alcohol if you use a higher percentage alcohol then the amount of aloe can change. to calculate the concentration of alcohol : 1) add the amount of cups of alcohol and aloe. 2) multiply the percentage alcohol by the numbers of cup of alcohol. 3). divide the answer from step 2 by the answer from step one and multiply by 100. This is the percent alcohol of the solution you made, To determine how much of each ingredient to use is harder. it is called a value mixture problem. (amount of cup alcohol x percent of alcohol) + (amount of aloe x percent of alcohol in aloe mix) = (percent alcohol in mix) x(amount alcohol + amount aloe). usually there is 0% alcohol in aloe mix. To solve this problem you need to know the concentration of alcohol in each ingredient and for the mix you want to make and one to the amounts.
@@unknownconstant7509 that's confusing how make it by cdc guidelines if have only 70 percent rubbing alcohol
@@SouthernBeautie2010 I dont know what consistency you want it. But the one I work with is kinda like water.
The "at least 70%" should be at the end of the mixing. If you started at 70 and then dilute them it's not as effective.
Correct. I would do 1/4 aloe vera to 3/4 70 % alcohol . The 1/3 aloe 2/3 alcohol formula is for 91 % alcohol.
Why its not effective??
Correct the dilution would equal to about a 40% -OH concentration which is well below the recommended concentration for hand sanitizer
Halfman Wawe due to the concentration. It’s recommended to have at least a 60% concentration of ethanol based or 70% isopropyl based hand sanitizer for effectiveness
Gina Tse so if we do 3/4 70% alchole with 1/4 aloe vera what the percentage of alcohol-will get ?
I would use the highest level of alcohol you can find. When you add the other ingredients it dilutes it.
When you used 90% alcohol its feel burn at ur skin. I made it and use 70% alcohol
re-take science class
Maybe do a simple google search to see what the WHO (world health organization) recommends.
@@TuasTBagginU I found 99% at Costco today! Victory
@@keikoalfian1800 Yes but you can't dilute it below 62% or it is not effective.
You're actually diluting the alcohol further making it less effective. If you use 1/3 of aloe vera to your 2/3 of alcohol, you're only getting more or less 40% alcohol which doesn't meet the CDC recommended of at least 60% alcohol. This hand sanitizer is less effective. Just use the alcohol straight or start with 99% alcohol, not 70%.
its not good to use alcohol straight on your skin as it is very drying
I had some 91% alcohol left over from an accidental purchase. My Aloe came from my fridge sense we live in Florida. Went to Dollar Tree and found 3 travel size squeeze bottles in one package, I bought 2 packages. With what I had left of my 91% I was able to make 4 squeeze bottles and filled up a soft soap pump bottle full. Thanks so much for your help!
Michelle King I would like this recipe with 90 percent rubbing alcohol and not use peppermint oil maybe lemon or just plain alcohol and aloe
Best recipe for home made hand sanitizer I have seen and used. Thanks for sharing.
Just a heads up, this recipe might look and feel nice while being a good consistency, but it does not give you the alcohol concentration that you want to kill things like coronavirus. When people say that you must have at least a 60% alcohol concentration in these types of products, they mean total with ALL ingredients not the alcohol source alone. 70% isopropyl is no longer 70% isopropyl when diluted.
If you plan on following this recipe, make sure to substitute 91% isopropyl alcohol, and even then the concentration is low. Decrease the aloe proportions. Home made sanitizers that include aloe and alcohol are by nature runny, not gelled like store bought hand sanitizers. The starting concentration of the alcohol base in this recipe was 70%, which means that you cannot add 1 part aloe to 2 parts alcohol if you want to end up with a 60-70% alcohol concentration. If you’re not able to properly measure these products to ensure that you end up with the right amount of alcohol by volume, it’s best to skip the homemade recipes altogether. If you can’t get ahold of hand sanitizer or 91% isopropyl and aloe, just use undiluted 70% isopropyl alcohol or a product that contains at least 60% ethyl alcohol by volume
It really sucks to see all of these people saying they made this for themselves and their families, knowing that they used a recipe that’s likely not optimally effective.
Sara M I used 91% . Thanks for the heads up
Great! Thank you so much for making this video! Ever since my little cousin poured out our very last bottle of sanitizer 🙄 we have been using soap like crazy! Your a life savor!
lol
60% or higher is needed!!! (CDC)
This is only 46.6%!!!
70% x 2/3 = 46.6%
Start with 91% and use AT LEAST 2/3 alcohol. Do not dilute afterwards with more aloe.
91% x 2/3 = 60.6%
60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol
@@cherr8585 ethanol? How dare you suggest wasting perfectly good booze!! - j/k (sort of)
Do people actually use ethanol for this though?
@@evidencebeforefaith5304 When I couldn't buy isopropanol alcohol to make hand sanitizer I bought a bottle of 95 proof Everclear. I don't drink so what better way to use it?!?!
@@cherr8585 Very nice! Thanks for the info and let's hope we never have to worry about this again!
Peppermint oil in and of itself is also antibacterial. It's why after dinner mints are peppermint. It kills any bacteria or what not in the mouth so that you don't have bad breath after a meal.
Yes but just to be clear (since COVID-19 is driving a lot of this) the novel coronavirus is a virus, not a bacteria.
🤷🏽♂️ this is truly very helpful but it is sad that it took a life threatening disease or virus for ppl to care about having good hygiene 🤦🏽♂️ last year round this time some ppl would exit bathrooms without washing hands with water nor soap and hand sanitizers used to take up at least 2 shelves 👏🏽 regardless this is a good video good job
PixarBrickSquad 🤣🤣🤣
🙄🤦🏽♂️
PixarBrickSquad there are hundreds of life threatening viruses and diseases out here. That’s why my home stayed stocked with alcohol hand sanitizer, everything. It’s a life long habit. I don’t think this will help people who have not had good prevention habits all along.
PixarBrickSquad
This video isn't actually helpful since she's diluting the alcohol further to 40%. You need at least 60% alcohol for it to be effective according to the CDC.
Making some right now thank you!
Can I use burn relief gel for homemade hand sanitizer? It does have aloe ingredient in it
This is awesome stuff. I tried your method and love it! Thank you for your help! ❤️
A million thanks for the video. Very helpful. Where can i buy those little oil bottles?
This is awesome info, thanks for sharing!! 👏🏼
Can I use banana boat soothing after sun gel with aloe or do I have to use a different one?
Yes!!! Going to be making this since it’s sold out e every where! Thank you 😭
Can I use Sunburn relief gel with aloe, lidocaine and hydrochloride?
Thank you so much it actually worked it turned out green because of the aloe vera but i put a aatermelon scent to it and it is just like a store bought one
Can you use any kind of essential oils on your skin?? I'm not familiar with these oils...
Thank you for this!🙏🏽 I want to add that the Aloe Vera keeps your hands moisturized, so not too much essential oils, because they can dry them out.❤️
WARNING: THIS WON'T WORK. Since she is using only 70% alcohol (the minimum amount that will kill the virus), cutting it any amount will bring it below 70% alcohol and it will not work. When she cuts the 70% alcohol with aloe vera, she is bringing the % down to around 50% and it is no longer effective against the virus. You have to start with 99% alcohol and only add a little aloe vera to keep it above 70% alcohol..
Rubbing alcohol needs to be at least 90% mentioned by a doctor
Great idea thanks, hope the alcohol percentage won't drop after all the added ingredients?
Thank you for sharing! Will be making this tomorrow! This is so simple I started making a lot of things from scratch this year and I am loving it! ❤️ God bless have a good day
There is nothing like doing it yourself..stay safe
I dont know why mine didnt work like this. I used the same proportion on 90% alcohol and organic aloe gell and the aloe gell just clumped up to 1 big ugly blob. What do you think went wrong?
I can only find wintergreen alcoholic..and I have aloe vera gel is this combo ok to use? Wintergreen aloe vera sanitizer?
I made this but my gel just clumped up. Do you know why that could of been?
Stores out of expensive hand sanitizer? Don't panic! Can you still buy bars of SOAP? Use it. SOAP, the ORIGINAL hand sanitizer. This public service announcement brought to you by DIAL soap. You're welcome.
In England all of the soaps and toliet paper in my asda have sold out.
SpockMcoy Issmart you can’t travel with soap though. Not in the car
@@TaylorM6668 yes, agreed, hand san has its place, but in large, we are all near water most of our day. be at home/work. I carry a bottle in my truck for that purpose.
SpockMcoy Issmart true! I was more thinking of taking the kids to & from school lol
When you get off the bus or tube or train after touching the hand rails, how is soap gonna help you? Surely it would be smarter to have sanitizer in your pocket ready to use instead of searching for a sink to wash your hands with soap?
Can someone help me? I can't find any regular aloe vera gel... But i did find some aloe vera sunburn relief at a nearby corner store. Will this be good mixing with the alcohol? Or do i need straight aloe vera gel?
This is awesome. Thank you.
You can add peppermint oil for scent, but you should be adding tea tree oil as an antibacterial/antimicrobial.
Can you use fresh aloe? Like from the plant in your yard?
Yes it will b better for ur hand.is just more dry that's all
I can’t believe how easy this
It feels wonderful and I put peppermint in mine it work
can we use fresh alovera ?
Thank you for doing this simple and easy video.
Is there a way for you to provide the shelflife of this? A natural preservative? How long does this last way you did it
Ty for sharing ur video n as 2 using sanitizer the CDC wants everyone 2 wash their hands more . But luv how u can make ur own hand sanitizer. Luv it!❤
I have a question can you used any type of essential oils
This is so stupid easy why haven’t I thought of this earlier!
Thank you so much
@Jerry Garcia yep. This recipe makes 40%+ alcohol, not the 60% recommended by the CDC.
Perfect needed this with the corona virus lurking 🦠
Yeah me too😂
Nothing kills a virus.
好!你 shut up corona man
DarkWarriorXD 🗿
Wash your hands with every chance you get. I made my sanitizer with vitamin c oil. Turned out pretty awesome!
The simplest recipe ever! Thanks. No boiling....limited amount of ingredients.... who has carbomer lying around the house???? Lol I will use this recipe. 👍🏽 Thanks
I can’t wait to try this!
Good Idea! Would give it a shot.
I’m gonna do this by my self
Thanks for vid , my mother had probs making this , she used 1/3 aloe vera gel and 2/3 alcohol but it's keeps separating , don't seem to mix, the gel won't deslove, any tips? Thanks very appreciated
I would like to know the answer to this question too. Can anyone answer because I feel like I’m doing it wrong when I’m not.
You have to edit this. Starting with 70% all. you’ve diluted it far below the 60% minimum. You need to start with an 100-95% alcohol solution.
can I use also eucalyptus essence?
You are a life saver- thank you
Amazing wow didnt expect this
Can I use baby gel if I don't have aloe vera gel ?
Thank you so much for this DIY, now all i have to find is rubbing alcohol!
Dollar tree sometimes has at least 70% they also have aloe and essential oils I hope this helps you.
Would Everclear work since alcohol is sold out everywhere?
Thank you just finished making it
Thank you! I have a big bottle of aloe vera gel that I never use. Only for summer
Thank you !! There all out I swear
Yall gotta go too the mom and pop shops walmart is everyone's first resort
Brilliant! It really works! Great work!
But I used aftershave with 90% alcohol content in it. Works just fine too!
Where do you get your essential oils from?
Also I was born before war broke out, during the war it was very hard to get hold of soap even. Toilet paper was news paper cut into squares . Put a hole one corner then loop some string through , then hang on a nail in the lavatory, at the bottom of our yard, just hoped the siren didn't go whilst sat there. Those were the days, and it's not that long ago. Have a nice day. X
Which war?
TuPapiJ well it wasn't world war1 cheeky, ! Have a nice day !
It's very good job and helpful!
Where did u get the aloe Vera gel
Are the essential oils optionals?
Do you use the essential oil for skin or can you use any type? Also thank you! This was very helpful!
any, just an essential oil -- it's only for scent.
I would put it in a spray bottle since it’s a little bit more liquidy than normal hands sanitizer
spray bottles are 1.00 at dollar tree or go to Walmart.. problem solved
Sofia A. Santiago you can also carry baby wipes to wipe down surfaces with it
Cynthia Powell good idea
Wow!!! My local store has run out of hand sanitizer..this video is very helpful!
If your using 70% achohol maybe add some salt 😁
Excellent to the point video. Thank you.
Now stores are running out of alcohol and all verá gel but this is a great video Keep making videos like these! I love your videos
How many days we can store this
Great to see how easy this is however I would also add emollient for moisturizing otherwise that can be harsh on the skin without, good solution though 👌
What kind of emollient would work, coco butter?
That's what the Aloe Vera is for
You could just put rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and it would work.
Would Glycerin work
Thank you for the video it’s to helpful for me and people they don’t have any hand sanitizer ???
Awesome
Can i use tea tree oil
Where do you find the peppermint from
Well, you definitely don't want to put your fingers in your eyes after using this for sure! You don't anyway, but after using this, your eyes would burn. I'm glad to have your recipe! I need it!
Was that 15 or 50 drops of peppermint oil?
You can concentrate lower levels of rubbing alcohol with salt if you can’t find 90%
How I cleaned my tools is that i put hand sanitizer on them
Thank you!
Can i used hand blender to mix it well or by this way it fine
This way is fine
Hello, does this need to be 70% Isopropyl alcohol? I have a container with 99% which I had bought previously (asking as it looks like buying 70% is also getting hard). Thanks
The higher the percentage of alcohol the better. The stores no long has 99% concentrations because they can’t-keep up with demands.. I made
my solution with vitamin c. Came out pretty awesome if you want to check it out.
Everyone is making their own so now the aloe vera gel is out of stock and so is alcohol. This whole thing is getting ridiculous.
I grow my own aloe Vera plants and I keep alcohol oh deck
I tried with Vodka and really helped caz didn’t find alcohol
I’ll never buy hand sanitizer again- this is so easy and it works!
How do you know it work?
Because you use 70% alcohol. It’s the alcohol that kills the virus. Just like in commercial hand sanitizer. If you DON’T use 70% alcohol, then, it won’t work
@@sterlingsilvyr17 But this recipe is wrong. If you follow this recipe, you'll end up with 40%+ alcohol, not the recommended 60% by the CDC. You have to use something higher to start like 99% alcohol so when you add the aloe vera, you have a final product of more than 60%. What she's doing is further diluting an already diluted alcohol.
For people who can't find aloe vera gel go to your local Mexican grocery and by a leaf/stalk of the actual plant. I got two long ones at .88 cents each. Slice it open and scrape to remove the gel. It will come out in chunks. Blend it in a blender or nutribullet whatever you have and wait till it settles before using. It will come out frothy when it's first blended. If using 91% alcohol use the 2/3 alcohol to 1/3 aloe vera gel. If you use a lesser percentage you can't use the same recipe because it will dilute your alcohol below the 60% that kills the virus. You have to have a finished product that has a 60% or higher of alcohol to kill the virus. So if you have 70% alcohol just use a tiny amount of the gel. I don't maths. Someone made a suggestion below of the percentage for a alcohol that is 70% at start. Also if you can't find any regular alcohol you can use ethyl alcohol and 151 proof grain liquor which is about 75 % alcohol and just use less aloe vera gel. The alcohol is what kills the virus. The gel is just to keep your hands from severely drying out. Don't dilute further with oils if you don't have to. Antibacterial won't kill the virus. Remember the best thing is to wash your hands frequently and don't touch your face.
Thank you.
Can I add lavender essential oil to help ease anxiety and kill Germs on my hand?
Yes. You can. That is what I did
@@evangelineansah5046 nice. Thank you!
Gonna make this...
Does it have to be aloe Vera?
I vape so reusing my old 100mil bottles work great. And I say it even though I think its common sense. Clean it out first ! I also freeze mine I like the cold here in Arizona on my old hands
I would add more Aloe to thicken it up. And yes 8 OZ of Grem-X is $20 per bottle on Ebay.
I can find aloe gel, essential oils.....but alcohol is extremely hard to come by in hawaii. Along with toilet paper. Lol. Luckily I scored a bottle of 91% isopropyl alcohol but it took me 2 weeks to find a bottle. The stores are limiting to 1 per household. As fast as it goes on the store shelves it sells out. I was lucky to be at the store when they were stocking it. Within 10min. The entire supply was wiped out.
What did I do wrong? I did this but my aloe didn't mix. It stayed globby
I love this
Thank you!!!
can we mix alovera gel with regular hand sanatizer?
That wouldn’t work because then the sanitizer would be lower than 60%
Thank you
