After watching how he begs to stay, I wanted an option that could say "Relax, I'm just messing with you. I already knew", but seeing how well he takes sarcasm or teasing comments, I guess it wouldn't be the best option.

Shame it's bugged like that, hopefully it gets fixed soon. I love his little nervous laugh once he's said he's a vampire. When he needs to be more sincere his social skills seem to be thrown out of the window and he becomes very childlike and uncertain, he really struggles to find the right words. It's unexpected coming from someone who is such a master at flirting and manipulating....until you learn more about him. I won't say any more than that. The first few options broke my heart for him, he thought he could trust you and then you do that to him. Not even an evil playthrough would justify that. Also I just wanna say that his outfit in that dye looks 👌
Definitely agree, the story and character development really caught me by surprise. I live under a rock and had no knowledge or expectations going into the game, just kinda got it on a whim. So to have stories unfold as beautifully as they did was incredible. I look forward to playing through again to keep seeing new things but I’m not ready to pick a new companion so I basically just started the same character over 😅 can’t wait for the bugs to get fixed - this one included!

(I got almost to the goblin camp without a single long rest because I didn’t understand how the system worked.) Now I’m starting a new playthrough with frequent long rests, and it’s amazing how much content I missed. Still working out the ideal balance, but it seems like resting after every semi-important plot point will reward you with some sort of small scene. That said, it’s hard to know when an event will be affected by a long rest. The burning inn is affected once you trigger it, but it’s hard to tell how close you have to get to officially trigger it. The scene in the grove where Kagha decides Arabella’s fate looks like the kind of event that would be affected, but as an experiment I long rested on the steps of that room, fully expecting the scene to have moved on when I woke, and nothing changed.

Was so VERY NOT PREPARED for the worm in the eye and the heavy dose of body horror in the opening. Was even less prepared, though more pleasantly so, for the game to be so good.
@@mrjones2721Theres a mod on nexus that tells you when you should long rest for a cut scene. It can be imperfect, sometimes itll say i should and nothing happens, sometimes it doesn't let you know when you should, but so far its been consistent.
I love-love-love the "obviously" option! Astarion looks so childish, almost sheepish trying to scrape for some semblance of a reply😅 Not only did he blow out a big-ass drama that existed somehow only in his mind, and felt like he made himself a fool, but also he, that pathetic, cruel, disgusting thing that he "is", wasn't thrown out or stomped on like some vermin-he was accepted despite his pretence failing. Aaand he also never got called out on it, until he brought it up himself. So many layers of pure wholesomeness, all came crushing down on him. Tav's nonchalance didn't help😂 Thanks for the upload!❤
I love that his "So... was there anything else?" is still showing slight confusion just by the inflection of his voice and his expression. it's different from the previous "Now, was there anything else?" where he sounds more suave and seductive. The subtle details of this game's dialogue tree make it so special to me.
I always let Astarion kill my character in the camp scene so I never saw him say that he "feels happy"; the buff being called happy makes so much sense now
My first Tav refused him outright, because that’s just a bad idea. My redemption Durge let him have a nibble, ignoring the first opportunity to stop, but pushing him off after that. My evil Durge pushed him off first chance she got. My first Tav would have let him have a nibble if there were an option for biting the wrist, though. Let me have a knife for emergencies, dammit. You never know with vampires! 😭
I suppose if I were ever to play this, I'd just choose 'obviously' because of the pallor of his complexion, the neck bites, etc. He just screams 'vampire' to me first time I saw him long time ago, and I was right; and whomever my character would be, I could not see them ignorant of this. And I love how nonchalant the character is about this and Astarion just... doesn't really know what to do with that. XD 'ah yes... ahem... you knew this whole time... so... anything else?'
I got this conversation after we found the boar! I went with the “Well, yes. Obviously” but I lost that moment’s save, so thank you for showing the dialogue tree 🙏
Holy moly I was still holding on with the "leave, now" dialogue, but the moment you opened the damned journal and there it said "We won't be inviting him back" I had to pause the video because the finality of this one little sentence is.. just terrifying.

It might be bugged tho. Larian said they are going to correct missing scenes and dialogues in the following patches. It seems like there are a lot of them.
Crucifixion (sp?) isn’t a Christian thing. It’s as old as humanity. Tying someone to a tree or contraption and then torture-murdering them isn’t exactly new. Look at the Shar temples ingame.
astarion tells you that to become a true vampire you must drink the blood of the vampire that turned you, im surprised you didnt get the option to remind astarion to drink cazador, so that he could be fully free even if cazador revives for any reason, and then gives the option to turn you, and then he has to wrestle with the idea of owning you mind body and soul like cazador did or releasing you and letting you also become a true vampire.
I also wondered why he didn’t get a little sip of Cazador Red while we were there. Maybe I missed a downside? I do recall that if he ascends and talks about turning you, there’s an option along the lines of “I want to be a true vampire” and he says something like “in time perhaps, it’s a big adjustment”. I think the hybrid option of him becoming a full one but not ascending could’ve been interesting!
I suppose it just ceases to matter that much once Cazador is defeated? the biggest problem with being a spawn is being *enslaved* to the vampire lord, so.... whether the spawn drinks the lord's blood or kills the lord, problem solved. there's only like one line where Astarion can tell you what additional powers Cazador has, so all that seems to not be his main priority even before finding out about the ritual. and after finding out, the powers of the Vampire Ascendant are *much* more interesting to him.
@@danir4077 i thought the condition was purely to drink the blood of the vampire that turned you, but the thing stopping you from doing that is the vampires control over you. since Astarion isnt controllable anymore the bloods there for the taking. the other spawn too, once cazador is dead theres nothing stopping them.

I CANNOT with his little "A vampire! Aha!" Just that laugh is so nervous and ridiculous but he's trying to get you to see how silly this all is and ugh I just wanna hug him

Yeah the bite scene will still happen even if he tells you without any changes to the dialogue 😩 they did fix a little bit of the continuity in patch 4 but it still needs work so hopefully it gets another update sometime
Asterion's animations are an absolute showcase of how much care they put into the expressiveness of the characters. A lot of western RPGs drop the ball on that at least *most* of the time, with the only really consistent one that *I* can think of being Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (ironically). Even in that case it's mostly just facial animation that's actually good... body movements are still kinda weird most of the time.
I had exactly the same situation when I went to the underdark behind Mount Sussura, and then the bite scene went exactly the same way, whether it wasn't there. However, I'm glad I saw this dialogue, it was nice. and I didn't have this scene while resting, I just accidentally clicked on him.
Bro I had no idea that a quest is marked as complete when a companion permanently leaves the party. That feels out of pocket 😭 like "welp so much for that 'quest'"
Why? The only thing upsetting me about the consequences from raiding the grove was that Wyll (who was at camp at the time) just popped his little „a companion has permanently left the party“ as soon as I opened the gate. I would have expected him to shout at me when back in camp, but no. Just upping sticks and deleting himself from the game. 🤷♀️ Karlach reacted, though, because I hadn’t recruited her yet. She had choice words and attacked me. That felt much better. Also, cutting off my husband’s ingame waifu‘s head was a surreal experience. Poor Karlach. 😂
Same now that I know I can rest as much as I want 😅 I don’t know where I got the idea that it would make the world continue without me but now I know better!
I have no idea how the rest of the story plays out if you get this to happen. I managed to trigger it in my tactitian mode run and its kinda neat to have him get "happy" from biting enemies in combat and not having the -1 for my rolls, especially in this mode, with karmic dice turned off too. But im curious if anything else happens or its just "no worries about Astarion biting anyone at camp" at all. Haha
So after experimenting to get some different footage it *seems* to trigger once you first reach the Underdark without long resting too much. I have a save where I’m just about to enter the Underdark for the first time and he doesn’t say it but once I walk in it becomes his next conversation (even if you leave). When I originally recorded this I still had 2 long rest scenes before the bite one (meeting the guardian and a dark urge one) so they were pretty backed up 😅
I wonder if the dialogue is the same in the campfire scene because now it's suppose to mean "Why didn't you tell me you were starving?" instead of "Why didn't you tell me you're a vampire?" Just watching this sequence of clips, and thinking about what was and wasn't discussed in the earlier scene when Astarion confesses his species, it still seems like it works. It just . . .isn't perfect? Astarion was now just worried about pushing his luck with feeding after the player's character reveals they know what he is, and you're seeing him as a HUNGRY vampire for the first time, but the writers are kind of putting a little too much on the player to bridge that gap.
how do you get this? Even after confronting him when you met Gandrel. and it's so unnatural after confronting him about that and there is no option to not believe him. In the same night he tries to bite you... and your character is still oblivious. It's very very weird. XD I wish you could just get him to say it or like here comes by himself. I never had that in any of my playthroughs. (and I have a lot of them XD)
There’s definitely room for improvement with the continuity surrounding this! To get this conversation, you just have to get to the Underdark before he bites you in camp. There could be other ways that I don’t know about but that one has been super consistent when I’ve been trying different things.

Has this become a scripted dialogue for him? I’ve tested this on 3 fresh characters since patch 5 released, and he tells me within 2 min of meeting him he’s a vampire.
Ohhh maybe! I haven’t had a chance to play much at all lately so I’ll have to add that to my list to check out. Hopefully someone else has given it a try too and can share their experience.
@@FauxShi I remember people where having a problem getting his bite scene to play, so they couldn’t get his bite attack. After he admits he’s a vampire he now automatically gets the attack. Making this a scripted scene could be Larian’s solution to players who can’t proc that scene.
Do you have other camp scenes in the way by chance? I haven’t had a chance to play in a while but I know that was one thing that delayed it and I had to do a bunch of long rests to catch up

You are correct - the game is designed that way. The player character has some voice lines that play as you wander around but the dialogue during cutscenes is not voiced. I think there are a few stray lines that were left in for the player character but they’re really rare (dark urge quest in Act 3 has 1 line for example).
From all the stuff I tried, it seems to trigger if you reach the Underdark without long resting enough to get the bite scene. In my original playthrough when I first heard this, I had a bunch of long rest scenes stacked up so the bite scene got pushed back as I kept exploring everything. Idk for sure if there's another trigger but the Underdark entry seems to for sure.
No, this was prior to patch 2. I had this dialogue before patch 1 as well but recorded it between 1 and 2. I tested it out last night after the patch and it’s all the same for now.

If you play as astarion you can choose which party member to tell and they're basically all like "duh but why didn't you say it sooner?!"
To me it was the empty bottle of blood and the mirror (that he doesn’t reflect in) at his tent that were giveaways 😂

We should’ve gotten that option and save the people there but lose on becoming a vampire lord
The reason it's not an option is because a vampire lord has to willingly offer the blood to their spawn. Cazador would never.

I completely agree. They really took the time and work needed to bring everyone to life. So many times it’s just uncanny but this game nailed it.
Astarion does not take rejection well at all. Also I wish that face was enabled on the 'strong' body type.

No long rests? I cant. I used to abuse long rests to make sure i didnt miss anything

I have no idea how the rest of the story plays out if you get this to happen. I managed to trigger it in my tactitian mode run and its kinda neat to have him get "happy" from biting enemies in combat and not having the -1 for my rolls, especially in this mode, with karmic dice turned off too. But im curious if anything else happens or its just "no worries about Astarion biting anyone at camp" at all. Haha
Does anyone know the EXACT parameters to trigger this scene?
Get to the Underdark without triggering the bite scene. Astarion gets priority, so maybe three or four long rests before it triggers.
how do you get the confession to trigger??? in all my saves i find out when he tries to bite me :/
So after experimenting to get some different footage it *seems* to trigger once you first reach the Underdark without long resting too much. I have a save where I’m just about to enter the Underdark for the first time and he doesn’t say it but once I walk in it becomes his next conversation (even if you leave). When I originally recorded this I still had 2 long rest scenes before the bite one (meeting the guardian and a dark urge one) so they were pretty backed up 😅
I wonder if the dialogue is the same in the campfire scene because now it's suppose to mean "Why didn't you tell me you were starving?" instead of "Why didn't you tell me you're a vampire?" Just watching this sequence of clips, and thinking about what was and wasn't discussed in the earlier scene when Astarion confesses his species, it still seems like it works. It just . . .isn't perfect? Astarion was now just worried about pushing his luck with feeding after the player's character reveals they know what he is, and you're seeing him as a HUNGRY vampire for the first time, but the writers are kind of putting a little too much on the player to bridge that gap.
how do you get this? Even after confronting him when you met Gandrel. and it's so unnatural after confronting him about that and there is no option to not believe him. In the same night he tries to bite you... and your character is still oblivious. It's very very weird. XD I wish you could just get him to say it or like here comes by himself. I never had that in any of my playthroughs. (and I have a lot of them XD)
There’s definitely room for improvement with the continuity surrounding this! To get this conversation, you just have to get to the Underdark before he bites you in camp. There could be other ways that I don’t know about but that one has been super consistent when I’ve been trying different things.

Has this become a scripted dialogue for him? I’ve tested this on 3 fresh characters since patch 5 released, and he tells me within 2 min of meeting him he’s a vampire.
Ohhh maybe! I haven’t had a chance to play much at all lately so I’ll have to add that to my list to check out. Hopefully someone else has given it a try too and can share their experience.
@@FauxShi I remember people where having a problem getting his bite scene to play, so they couldn’t get his bite attack. After he admits he’s a vampire he now automatically gets the attack. Making this a scripted scene could be Larian’s solution to players who can’t proc that scene.

Do you have other camp scenes in the way by chance? I haven’t had a chance to play in a while but I know that was one thing that delayed it and I had to do a bunch of long rests to catch up
What triggers this scene? I’ve only gotten the scene where he tries to bite Tav in their sleep.
This happens if you make it to the Underdark before long resting too much. The bite scene will still happen some time after though!
PLEASE PLEASE why doesn't your pc speak any dialogue? It's so odd to me, and I've yet to find out why. Is this the way the game was designed? Thank you.
You are correct - the game is designed that way. The player character has some voice lines that play as you wander around but the dialogue during cutscenes is not voiced. I think there are a few stray lines that were left in for the player character but they’re really rare (dark urge quest in Act 3 has 1 line for example).

From all the stuff I tried, it seems to trigger if you reach the Underdark without long resting enough to get the bite scene. In my original playthrough when I first heard this, I had a bunch of long rest scenes stacked up so the bite scene got pushed back as I kept exploring everything. Idk for sure if there's another trigger but the Underdark entry seems to for sure.

No, this was prior to patch 2. I had this dialogue before patch 1 as well but recorded it between 1 and 2. I tested it out last night after the patch and it’s all the same for now.
