Hi, I have a Freelander 1 TD4 automatic which even though is not perfect; I love spending any free time working on. I think your videos are absolutely fantastic, just thought I’d let you know! Keep up the good work, Bob.
Hi, I have just brought a freelander and was just wondering if it’s possible for you to put a video up of the common tools I would need to make any repairs. I’m not a mechanic but would try to fix a problem if it came along. Thanks in advance 👍
hey mate do you have the part number for the range rover fuel injector cleaning adaptor to tap into the fuel line from your other video please on the tdv8 sport many thanks
I am an English pensioner in Sweden. There is a relatively low milage (82 K miles) 2001 V6 Freelander for sale at approximately £5000. Door locks and window cables can be fixed - refurbished viscose clutches can be obtained. Is there anything else? Or is this motor bad? Can’t find any information about this anywhere! The car looks to be in fine condition from the photographs. Grateful for a reply. Regards, Martin Bronsdon
I like the v6 engine. I had that in an MG ZS 180 which I enjoyed. Check the auto box works well through all gears and there are no funny noises from the diff or IRD/gearbox. Check the prop and VCU is still on and that it doesn’t resist (brake) hugely when going backwards on full steering lock, showing a stiff VCU, although as you say the VCU can be replaced. Check for rust underneath, but this can be stopped with some waxoyl spraying. Check for seat tears. Check for any coolant leaks from the thermostat housing in the engine V. All can be fixed. So overall I would buy one, I like them. £5000 seems a lot though, especially for a mk1. Go for the facelift model post 2003. I think they look better inside and out. In the UK if I was to buy one I would look around £2000 but it depends on condition.
When you tested the rear brake shoes you moved them without any problems , as your FreeLander got a viscous coupling on there because you cannot turn the rear drums like you did if it had the coupling on without the front wheels being off the floor.
A Haynes workshop manual is a good purchase for jobs like this. Hopefully it's in there, it should be. Usually a few manuals on Ebay. If you can't find one I've got a spare that ill put on.
I have a problem with this model, recently. When i accelerate with a (automatic BOX), i have instantly check engine yellow (normal one ) on my board. Just when i accelerate. My Termostate is almost broken, the water is not in the middle. It s under the middle on the cold water. Maybe is that problem?
That’s probably not the problem, even though you should fix that. Get a cheap obdii reader and read the error code when the check engine light is on. I have another video on cheap diagnostic obdii tools on my channel.
I think it depends on your climate where you live, I seem to remember a chart in the Haynes manual for different viscosities for different temperature ranges. You’ll get a small mpg advantage with lower viscosity but there is little difference overall.
You have to take off the lower engine cover then undo the bottom hose to the radiator. I often put on a plumbing T junction adapter piece on that lower hose to make it easier in future. It should drain out most of the coolant, probably 80% of full capacity. Check the handbook for full capacity.
@@comeinhandynow just confused because my scan tool when it runs the emissions test its got a big red X on the FUE label what do you reckon it could be? Thanks buddy
@@comeinhandynow Hi there, Yes only seen it later.. People don't change them on the td4 as it's awkward.. and the crankcase breathers another thats never changed... Good vid tho' : )

Enjoy!
Thanks for this. Currently attempting to change the clutch on my td4 Useful info for topping up after.
Cheers
Just recently got a td4 sport so will be watching your excellent videos for tips 👍🏻
Have fun!
Maybe check for any turbo hoses with a leak. Take a look at one of my vides pressure testing the hoses.
Thanks again for this video and all the oil specifications stated.
Saves me looking up the book👍

I would just buy the tools needed for each particular job. Eventually you will build up a good set. A socket set, pliers and screwdrivers is a start.
Thanks great video!

I have freelander has a misfire most when stars cold in the morning
Check the glow plugs and that high pressure regulator seal. After that check all the injectors. See my videos on doing these checks.

The other rear wheel was off the ground, hence easy to rotate because of the differential.
Hello mate, can you drain and refill the IRD and back diff?
You can I think, although I can’t actually remember doing it.
How do you check the auto box fluid on the freelander 1 sport ‘05’ as my has now decided to not select reverse but drive and the triptronic works ok

Why does it say online that you can use 0 30 and also 5 - 40 oil? Anyone know whats best?????? Thanks

@@comeinhandynow I've just looked and 1 that meets the A3 standard is 5- 40 triple qx fully synthetic
How do you drain the coolant? And how much can you get out? In liters I mean

And what does not drain where does it remain besides heater?
Hi mate just sent for crank case oil separator. My question is will i still have to use a filter aswel
No it replaces that.
@@comeinhandynow thanks a million
Do i need to heat up the engine before i chage the oil?
It’s a good idea to, so that it drains faster, but not essential
@@comeinhandynow ok thank you 👍😁
hey mate :) is it easy to change the oil for a Freelander 1 98 model, turbo diesel, Land Rover engine, manual? Cheers
Yep, should be easy. Get yourself a Haynes workshop manual, usually here: bit.ly/2HcSlxA

Please just watch from UA-cam, otherwise my revenue from adverts disappears!
Hi mate would you happen to know where the lamba sensor is located on the td4 56 plate? Thanks!
It doesn’t have one as it’s diesel.
