Every level in the upstairs on the n64 version is frustrating af bc of the shitty camera and it being very hard to wall jump on the n64 version it’s much easier on the ds version
This level is trash. For me the level isn't even hard. But I hate how one little mistake can make you start all the way back. Like... If I died in bob-omb battlefield, or fell off the stage on whomps fortress, I could instantly do my objective again. But on rainbow ride, one try takes so long and gets boring quick because of the carpets. I've died only twice, Mario fell off one of the platforms which caused him to have a long fall until going out of the stage. I may stop playing for now as I'm going for 100% completion on all games, I have 110 stars, 75 shine sprites in sunshine and 30 stars on Galaxy. rainbow ride is making me regret vowing to get 100% completion in 64 though. : /

The great thing about this level is that you are never stranded. They is usually a jump you can do to get back or in the case of the castle there is a teleport spot.
This level was both frustrating and yet amazing. I just remember there being so many new parts of this level by taking different carpet routes. The fact you landed outside the castle too was super annoying but made completing it even better
Op het tapijt naar de balken. En er maar niet overheen kunnen springen en honderden keren stranden voor het schip bereikt te hebben. Ik geloof dat ik er een middag in een avond aan besteed heb
Yeah you are not wrong there. The slider theme was a bit overused. Edit: I think what makes it out of place is the slow moving carpets and slow pace in a lot of areas. If they added more of an adventure and a more heavenly sky I would have been fine with it. Because I think the whistling is why they used it. I also think that the secret courses that that were underground without a slide should not even have them. Also the race with the Koopa.
This level and tick tock clock are absolute torture! 😩 I think I’m having a harder time with tick tock clock, but this one’s no cake walk either that’s for sure. Thanks for the guide!
I can't tell you how many lives I lost in the DS remake to this one level. I kept falling off the level so many times - usually on my quest to get the 100-Coin Star, it wasn't even funny. (It was infuriating, as you could no doubt tell.)
I am playing on tge Switch and it took me forever to get 100 coins. I was having trouble getting the blue coins that are on a timer. I finally tried using the dpad for the wall jumps and it made it much easier.
This is my favorite level in the whole game. Regardless to how slow the magic carpets are, the virtual view is sooo vast! And I like how although the dimensions of the 'tricky triangles' aren't present in the background when seen from the first and second magic carpets, AT LEAST the stars still show in the VAST background. Most furthest away, • Swingin' in the Breeze to the far right from the 'tricky triangles'. But since the stars, when they're blue, are darker and easier to see at a virtual distance, I like the view quality of the star while it's still yellow. And of course I and many other fans wish Wing caps were in this level. But although it would have made the level too much easier, the way that the level designer(s) could have included Wing caps without making the level too much easier, would have been if the first reachable block were on top of The Big House in the Sky. The rest of the blocks, only reachable using the Wing cap, could have been on little island platforms. More cannons too, also unreachable without the Wing cap.
Somewhere over and around the rainbow is where you'll find Rainbow Ride, the final level in Super Mario 64 before you must face the ultimate final battle. This level looks kind of pretty, but the obstacles are anything but easy. At least Mario should be warmed up for the final battle. Good luck and happy flying!
I learned that I can hold my breath for quite a while because of this level. This level scared me so much.. even though they are playing fun music and the colors are all bright and fun.
You've probably seen Tricky Triangles (8:22-9:10). Many of the other stars are not very memorable, are omitted in 70 star speed runs, or simply don't end up in UA-cam videos, because runners don't die at their tricks.
I always thought TTC was an easier level compared to this one. years/decades later, i found out that more people hate the clock tower over rainbow ride and i just cant see it. its so much easier to fall off here than in the clock, and the clock sometimes gives you a chance to land on a lower level. even if it chunks your health, its better than dying imo. having to wait around for the carpets is stupid, and if youre not fast enough for any reason, the carpet disappears and youre either left stranded or forced to risk a long jump. and even if you make it past the carpets, one side has the ship with stupid wind mechanics on it, as well as the cannon with terrible aim that you have to compensate for, which if you miss means you get to start all over. and thats assuming you found the pink bomb omb on the literal other side of the level beforehand to open the cannon for you first. if nothing else, the clock is unique in that it lets you control the speed of the moving parts within the level. even if it's widely considered to be poorly implemented, at least it's a different mechanic that makes it stand out. meanwhile rainbow ride's gimmicks just suck. the only exception would be the 100 coins: its way easier on rainbow ride than the clock for the sheer fact taht there are so many coins here, whereas theres barely 120 or so in TTC.
