- This year's Pune Off Road Expedition was tougher than last year. Last year the route was much longer, but was largely flat with a few climbs and descends since we were essentially going around the Panshet lake. This year the route was from the lake right up to a temple on top of a hill. There was slush everywhere, at some places, knee deep.
For terrain like this, its very important to use the right tool for the job. By that I mean a light motorcycle with knobby tyres. Dual sport tyres are pointless as the mud cakes in the narrow grooves and you end up with bald tyres. It also helps to have a high front fender to prevent the mud from caking between the tyre and the fender and locking up the front wheel.
If you want to do something like this with your motorcycle I strongly recommend you pay attention to the part of the video starting at 14:18. Check out the group of riders reving the tits out of their motorcycles and not getting anywhere. It was a flat surface. Their motorcycles were light and had all the power that was needed. But all went to waste because of the wrong choice of tyres.
wait!! wht did i just see...!! an activa offroading... my whole life has been a lie thinking scooters are not meant for offroading.. May God save my sister's activa now... :-D

infact smaller bikes did better than even big off-road bikes.
I cant believe... Some one has also bought Honda Activa for Off -Roading... LOL.. Hope Activa should have survived this Road trip....

@@loganlimbu2620 while I agree technique plays a huge part, the said rider can't be that bad that even a Honda CB Twister was much more better at the same stretch, for what it's worth the bike should have at least compensated for the lack of technique on the rider's part as it's marketed and designed with off road and touring in mind, which it can't do both properly and it should have at least been able to do the same stretch like the Twister.. and as you have mentioned it's the rider's lack of technique, check another Himalayan on the same exact stretch, with a different rider, falling all over and needing push the same exact way at 10:03 , even a girl on an Impulse did it 'too good' as the per the words of the OP.. also listen to that engine noise, I don't know about you but I think it's giving my ears cancer

Its the beast made for roads but not for off roads heavy and with low flexibility good in looks but not for off roading and that dumbs ass 400 DOMINAR don't even have good ground clearance stupid design

@@abdussattarmemon9631 haha I don't know where Dominar came into the picture but I agree Dominar isn't made for off roading, you can clearly see it from the design, but at least Dominar can cruise all day long with a higher cruising speed and top speed on road, whereas Himalayan can't do anything well, can't even cruise properly due to low cruising speed, can't off road as well, best as a commuter like a splendor is what I feel. Also the design of Himalayan reminds me of a duck(not very good inspiration lol)

Riding a bullet in this road is kinda funny and stupid because bullet is not designed for this type of road.. you will find more difficult to control because of the weight on it...it's better to go Rx100 for this type of road with all mud guard remove..trust me I've tried with Rx100 and I fall in love with the Rx100 engine.

Sir, I have been following your blogs and social media updates for some time now, and I am greatly influenced by your motorcycle ride stories. Recently I came across your blog where you said that the riding posture of royal enfield thunderbird is bad for long roads. I recently bought the new bs4 version of the bike and I find back pain, in the middle of my back after riding for very less time. The pain started after I rode an activa one day(which I was not used to riding), and it was though of much less intensity, still remains, after riding the thunderbird. Although there is no neck pain as you mentioned, probably because I am 5' 6" in height (it may be a problem for taller individuals). I previously used to ride a honda stunner, and I did not have back pain like this. It had it's own limitations, for which I bought a bigger motorbike. I bought the thunderbird(with my 3yrs of savings) as I always wanted to own a thunderbird, and I wish to do road trips with my buddies, but if the pain persists, then my dream of road trip will be washed away...
Sir, you mentioned in your blog that, "the problem in the riding posture of thunderbird, starts and ends with the design of the handlebars". And you even gave a link to a handlebar image which you recommend, and upon using of which you could easily ride for long times. There was also a link to an image of a seat which you replaced your stock seat with.
My question to you is, will the same modification which helped a 6 foot man like you, going to help a 5' 6" guy like me? Or do i need to make a different change a according to my height?
(Please help me on this Sir, because no one seems to have any idea about this, and if I ask the showroom guys, they keep saying that, the thunderbird is the most comfortable one for long rides.)

Assam muddy slush roads enroute to Mizoram are quite similar during rainy season. Feels like silk sand with your tyres skidding while you maneuver your way out.

In most of the impulse/xpulse review videos or comments, i have seen people complaining about the power and torque in comparison with other off-road bikes. This video clearly shows the practicality of impulse when it comes to off-roading.

Why does everyone think a Royal Enfield would be the best bike out there for off-roading and climbing the Himalayas? Apart from the Himalayan, almost all of them are just plain cruisers. No traction on tyres, not enough power. You might love Gulab Jamun but you won't put it in starters, would you?

I don't see any point of such ride...they went out for offroading and to have fun but what the got was frustration and mud paste in every crevice of the bike...if you really want to try offroading and to upgrade your skills this kind of trail is useless.
I have seen it a lot. Why do you guys keep your foot down? Put your foot down only when you have to stop or completely lost your balance orelse try to balance the with your foots on your foot rest. You have a very small room for motion and you are killing the motion by putting your leg on the ground. Ride well and ride safe. Best of luck.
