Granted, the weather may be playing a big part in your hay issues. However, farmers who practice no-till have to at some time consider a compaction issue. Hay fields, pastures (both cow and horse) become compacted after awhile and the compaction issue addressed. You may want to seriously consider doing something about compaction in your fields or, your yields will get smaller and smaller each year and more and more weeds replacing your grass etc.
He Joel, what kind of music do you listen to while you mow? Those houses getting so close to the farm, its sad really that fields are disappearing, do you ever have problems with the people that move in?
Are you taking precautions when you work on that cutter?? I come from a 30 year career of industrial electrical, mechanical machine maintenance and repair. Therefore it is ingrained in guys like myself the importance of safety. I do not know the safety features of farm tractors, but when I see you repairing and adjusting the blades in the hay mower and can still hear the tractor running and see the PTO is still connected, I just cringed! I feared for your safety! In industry we are taught to isolate all sources of power input before reaching into any part of a machine. I just hope there are safety features on a tractor that I'm not aware of that were offering you a modicum of safety while doing the work you did. If not, please, please, please take precautions in the future!!! Jehovah only gave us 2 hands and I'd like to see you keep yours. Okay Joel?

Joel, i know it's not the correct word but if you said...for lack of a better word, a Gelded horse has been castrated, neutered or fixed. Most people understand those words because of their cats and dogs.

This is a second cutting wow. You know your fields thanks for sharing how the neighborhood is growing up. Hay looks good, alfalfa looks great. The headlands looks good. Have you noticed the corners of the fields corner could be more expanded you boundaries are not as defined as they used to be. Should poppa clear to the corner dead spots, and why not make field more square seems wasted spaces.
Only things is to avoid the rock, but you can’t so use your language skills and muscles and go on. Music, air conditioning, bathroom and lunch breaks, it all great day.

Maybe easier to see, looking over your shoulder instead of turning around, in the seat of a moving tractor.
Good question! It keeps driving over the crop to a minimum. Also they aren't as costly as the mowers for hay that trail directly behind you.
