I'd say Nintendo is WAY more ruthless. They would copyright claim a fangame just for having their characters in it. Or just parody channels because they "misrepresent" the brand. I haven't seen many anime companies being half as ruthless as Nintendo when it comes to fangames.

Tamarindo's Freaking Dinner seems like it has a lot of potential. I like the "halloween-y" feel. It's strongest points are probably the random dialogue and character design, but I think it's far too disorienting with lights, shadows, prospective and environment design.
I played this back during a Steam Demo Showcase week, and the version of the game I played had NOTHING BUT music that was straight up from other artists and not Jacob Jazz. I think he credited them somewhere, but when an entire Lemon Demon song plays over the animated title sequence, that just rings loudly as "this game developer has no idea what they're doing." To Jacob Jazz's credit, the art in the game is fairly wonderful and the elevator pitch of this game being like "Luigi's Mansion mixed with Clue" has a lot of potential! But when you can't figure out how to make your camera even work (whether it's the weird, barfy feeling you get from navigating the slanting ground outside the house, or the awful depth of field effects), or you can't figure out how to write engaging dialogue (I like The Simpsons and Lucio Fulci horror movies as much as the next guy, but having that weird rambling trivia fest be "gameplay" is just awful), I just don't know what you'd be doing making a game. Let alone a whole "Treelogy" of games. Almost makes me wish Jacob just produced the art assets and handed off everything else to someone who knows what they're doing.

I honestly think the Unity thing became a self-fulfilling prophecy. They've been pushing so hard to "upgrade" the engine with premium features to escape the perception that they're a budget engine for beginners making asset flips, but all those fancy new features are either half-finished "previews" that are full of bugs, or they're poorly documented and just plain difficult to use All of this making the engine less attractive to the professionals they're courting, who are actually looking for something easy to use that "just works."
