It took me all these years to re listen to it with a different perspective and I hate that I didn't like it then because it's an amazing album. It really is ahead of it's time.
Neon Ballroom is different animal. He's voice and sense of melody really started to evolve. I understand people that loves his grunge and stuff, but it is undeniably inferior than his later works. When Dissociatives he's in the best shape as ever.
Best live sound came from the Freakshow, Neon ballroom and Diarama tours. I loved the stage concept for Neon Ballroom the most. Lets not forget about "the Dissociatives", as that was a great sideline project, and I think that will come again before silverchair
@kimboisabeezt I realize they did get worse but I still love them to death. Also, evolution is a change over time so yes, it is the evolution of Daniel Johns.
@spicegirlsfan472 Well it depends on how you look at it really. I personally think their best two are Diorama and Freak Show, for different reasons obviously. I respect every album they put out and I think all of them are good but I understand where you're coming from; you like the more "mature" 'Chair, yes?
Why is it that whenever anyone complains about how Daniel sold out and his music got worse, someone has to dive in and inform us "Oh, you fear being different! They get older and evolve!" No. Daniel's talent faded with his looks. Disturbed, for example, have evolved and changed, without having to change genres completely. Silverchair isn't even Silverchair anymore. (Well, now they're not since they've split. But you get my point.)
Thugmas the Tanked Engine Daniel was severely depressed and couldn't handle doing angry and upset anymore so wrote happier songs. He actually wrote a full album of anger but hit the delete button before young modern. Wish he had released that instead.
Daniel did not sell out, and his talent did not fade with his looks. He's very talented, as he always was, and his looks are also intact. He's an artist and he's trying new things. You're definitely not a music fan if you can't grasp the fact that this is how it works for an artist with actual talent. He's expressing himself and he's loving it. You are very narrow minded. Don't like him? Then go watch something else.
neon ballroom has a special place in my heart
It is beautiful to see how Daniel grew and changed. Musical genius.
I'm in love with his voice!
it was that keyboard bloke that led him a stray!!
Young Modern is still ahead of its time

I love Daniel Johns ❤️
