Thanks Susan for the reminder of the efficient strategy in teaching! That's a very helpful while we are all very busy with everything, and easily forget about these great strategies.
Love this strategy! Often teachers talk A LOT so this is helpful when trying to get students to think about the concept before the teacher introduces it! Many of the math tasks we do with the students before, during and after units allows the students to figure it our their own way before we teach it.
This works well with the class game ‘deserted island’. The teacher says for example ‘I’m going on a deserted island and I’m bringing cheese. What would you bring?’ Student: chocolate Teacher: you can come. Write or draw answer on board Next student: drink Teacher: you can’t come Keep going until they figure out the rule (ch digraph etc.) It’s a fun oral language game and can relate to any topic :)
