I'd consider the shot that Alex played the most incredible one , since not many players would play it that way especially in a crucial moment , it was Alex the man who would played it the way he wanted , sometimes in a wrong way but he would just get it right , Alex was such an unusaul player !
Depends how good you are between opposite hands on O’Sullivan left handed screw, but that green stop shot for most club players, you could play all day as power means you can put unintended side with the top spin. So I’d go for that one as most difficult to actually pot and hold the white.

I'm sure White,Ronnie and Judd have played better shots...? But well created Steve ....but that blue is higher than a 5 to play,be a 9 in most peoples books,or unplayable!!! And a 10 + in importance as the pressure was immense,White could pot form anywhere in those days.....no mistakes were allowed....but you have a fabulous cue action Steve for recreating those shots 👏

Do you see benefits to your own game playing these recreated shots? I would have thought it would improve your knowledge substantially. I think with the pressure ronnies shot is a great shout, being able to play so well left handed is definitely way better than having to pull out the rest, espescially on a shot like that when touch/timing is so key. Nice video mate 👌
Hi Dermot. Yeah, anything helps. Executing these high level shots just adds more tools to the toolbox. Some are pretty standard shots, Higgins' blue and Jimmy's Pink stop shot. Lee's is a clever shot and Judd's long Green was mental (although it's not a shot you'd ever need).
One of my favourite shots ever was the O Sullivan shot replicated here. I remember watching it live thinking how the hell is he gonna get on the black, amazing shot with the weaker arm under the circumstances and we'll replicated Steve 👌

@@BartonSnooker it’s a tricky one isn’t it. There’s quite a few I guess but Peter Eldon pink springs to mind 2002 against Matthew Stevens, Hendry’s blue with the rest against Steve Davis, Davis’s final pick for the 1st TV 147 break....history making shots or miss and you’ve lost shots, tough call!
I think the importance of Judd's shot is underestimated, yes the frame was over but he was 5-1 down. Playing that shot really sends a signal to Barry what he's capable of, so psychologically I would say it's very important.

Tables back at Higgins years were much slower. He had to play the blue much harder than you do on a faster table. That shot should deserve a higher difficulty level.
It's always exaggerated really that the tables were really slow. The table Alex was on there would easily have been as quick as mine. It's only the modern professional conditions that are stupidly quick.
@@BartonSnooker I agree ,they change these silly fine cloths every 3 days so no one can replicate these conditions any more ,it’s ruined the game and it protects the real top players as they play on them all the time .My Westbury is fast ,and to be honest as wouldent want it any quicker

Anyone else other than Ronnie I would probably say that shot, Stephen Lee's cueing is a thing of beauty though.

The Stephen Lee one probably not. The Ronnie one I wouldn't risk playing it left handed in a match, I'd use the rest (although I do play lots of shots left handed in matches, that one is particularly difficult. Judd's shot, no, that's mental! Jimmy's - yeah I might play that for fun. And Alex Higgins' shot is just a standard shot really, he threw his arm into it, which makes it look a bit more spectacular. Still great under that amount of pressure though.
@@BartonSnooker I can hit a few left handed shots but definitely wouldn't feel comfortable playing any sort of screw shot, I would be thinking about ripping the cloth

Alex Higgins blue ,considering one mistake on that 69 break and he was out the championship .Who knows that break against Jimmy probably changed snooker history ,White would have met Reardon in the final and his career may have taken a different turn in the world championship in future years. As great as most of the other shots were ,most were after the frame was done ,Ronnie’s shot was great ,but he knocks in tons left handed anyway ,so to me it’s Alex’s blue that was the best ,the ultimate pressure .
That blue was a frame winning shot so i give it me vote

Jud trumps shot was best in my eyes ,but to only give alex a score of 8 for importance is very harsh i think.definitely a 9 ,possibly a 10.you say if he missed jimmy may not have won the frame,but had he missed the cue ball would not have landed where it did and could have left jimmy a simple red.
I agree, yeah. I think the only reason I was careful with going in too high, is that I always want to leave somewhere to go. Its the first video I've done like this, and if you say 10, it means nothing could ever be any more important. What about a final frame decider in the world's to be the first player to break the crucible curse? Is that more pressure? I don't know. But that was my thinking.

Judd's, for me. Stephen's was aesthetically gorgeous. I've tried both shots too. Stephen's is quite easy to get fundamentally right (though easy to under/over hit) and most technically sound players should be able to manage it after a few goes. For Judd's shot I think I could try it for a week and not get the white to stop; it requires incredible timing to generate that power from the cushion and that distance and it was phenomenal that he did it in one.

Alex Higgin's shot I would put above 8 out of 10 for importance. Had he of missed it , I think he would of needed snookers, but Jimmy would have had a shot on a red to kill of the frame and match. Opportunties to play in world final don't come up much, so an incredible amount of pressure on that shot and all in that break.
Given how slow in comparison Alex Higgins table likely was the shot may have needed more power back then, so perhaps the shot was harder than it would be today

That was brilliant the way you executed all those shots Steve...I think Judd’s shot was the most difficult when you think of the distance between the cue ball and object ball and near the cushion....Stephen Lee was a major talent and probably had the most cue power of them all, such a shame we no longer see him on the circuit. And yet John Higgins has gone on to have a long career.
Judd's shot is incredible isn't. As you rightly say, Stephen Lee could time a ball better than anyone. Absolutely incredible smooth cueist!
Lees shot is more amazing ebedy time I I break.up.the shot ..amazing amount of screw on first phase of that shot with little effort ..and with the side on which made the pot harder as well
i was their for that 147, you missed the great pink with reverse side mid way through the break, but the black was deffo a more edge of the seat moment...wow
Surely Stephen Lee could have played a much simpler positional shot to get on the red? Off the bottom cushion on the red side of the black and back up for it?

Lees shot is the hardest iny opinion as he had to aim.the blue to the right of centre pocket because of the left hand side he had on it and time it so it had the right speed to make it to the red over the other rail.off 3 cushions

I like your videos,i liked this too until you gave ronnie's shot a 8 and 8 and higgins 5 and 8.....how is ronnie's shot and higgins same level of importance?Ronnie was making a 147,but he was winning the tournament and had no pressure at that point,he had already won.How can u compare that to Higgins shot?If Higgins missed it,he most likely would have lost the frame and the match and lost the tournament,he had to pull a 69 break from 0 versus 59 of jimmy. Also the difficulty 5? Ronnie O Sullivan couldnt manage to pull that shot off in TV,he tried like 3 4 times he didnt even pot the ball once. Only Jimmy White did it perfectly,but thats also because he was on the receiving end of the match,so he probably has tried that blue like 1000 times to get it since it became his nightmare. Ronnie's shot is just an easy screw back shot even I could pull off,only difficult thing is using weak arm.But Ronnie pots with his left arm as good as with his right arm,so for Ronnie it wasnt hard at all.

Lee's shot is the best shot ever played in a proffessional snooker match. Also at a crucial stage of the frame at 42:35 scoreline with a lot of points left in the frame

Do you think Higgins shot was made more difficult because of the balls and cloth of the era he played in?

The cloth was a bit slower ,35 ounce in those day,30 ounce is used now ,balls were the same weight as now , just different compound , but no table heaters until late 90’s .Table quality was better then though ,no crap slates and cheap wood that is used now ,balls did not roll off all over the place like we see these days .
Ronnie has proven that he can play world class snooker with both hands
I like that you add an importance scale, you could almost equate that to a pressure scale, most instances, so you can see not only how critical it was to the match, but probably some indication of how much pressure the shooter felt at the time. I've heard people say in golf that when you have a three foot putt and there's a LOT of money riding, the put looks more like 30 feet.
OK, the action you got on that off handed shot impressed me.

Was just about to comment as video went down, glad its back. On the last shot what would of happened with bottom right instead of bottom left?
It would have trapped the cue ball even further up the top half of the table. Bottom right would work as check side, and slow the cue ball down.

I had one go and it's just too much damage to the table digging right down on the white and into the table cloth. It's very tough, it's not a shot I've ever played or practiced to be honest.
@@BartonSnooker yeah i broke a ferrel once trying it myself. Best to put a off cut of cloth over the cloth but still its impossible I got it to bend but nothing like as well as he did. That for me is the hardest ever shot to re-create that any pro has ever played.
@@BartonSnooker Steve ,to practice those masse shots ,just put a small piece of old snooker cloth on the area where your cueing .

For what was at stake I'd say Alex Higgin's shot. I watched that match live and the atmosphere and tension was unbelievable. I'd have given the importance score a 10!
Same. That jawed red of Jimmy’s to set that Higgins break up is for me the single most defining shot of Jimmy’s career. What could have been had he potted that one ball. Jimmy could have gone on to win that year- Alex won 18-15 over Reardon so Jimmy’s chances must have been similar at least. A win could have set Jimmy on a very different path rather than his many near misses that seemed to dominate his mind and feed his life choices.
