  • Willcox and Gibbs sewing machines are highly collectible. In fact, these can be some of the most valuable antique sewing machines. Over the course of their long history, Willcox and Gibbs have made a number of different styles of sewing machines. These are some of the machines you may see in antique stores, estate sales, and auctions. The first Willcox and Gibbs sewing machines operated with a hand crank. Later, there was also a treadle version in a cabinet. Both machines were made of cast iron and had a graceful arched shape.

Thank you so much for the history and showing us your wonderful vintage machine. Every time I sit in front of a vintage sewing machine; if we listen close enough we can almost hear the stories they tell us. Gracias

I've just bought an 1881 W&G, it needs a good clean and oil but I'm dying to use it - I love how it doesn't need a bobbon! Thank you for this interesting video :)

I am amazed that she was able to get a stitch as the machine is not correctly threaded. The thread needs to go through the staple at the right side of the picture. When I have made this mistake I have not gotten a seam, just a mess.

I agree, this is not threaded correctly in just the way you describe.

You are so right! I don't know how I missed that step, but I surely did. She's been used in a demo since and for many hours of happy sewing and I guess she's threaded right now. Nope, never missed a stitch.

I have one but it is electronic and the cords are bad. Wish I had the hand crank to use it.
