I grew up in this block (Kennard house) in this era in the 80's. I even played in the nursery playground daily. wow this brings back some serious good memories. Great video. 😎👍
That was a nice flat you showed , spacious , nice layout , I wouldn’t have minded one like that 👍🏻 much better than the shoe boxes of today !! Just a shame these estates were so big and not really good for families 👎🏻
Big thank you to whomsoever uploaded this footage.
I lived on the Doddington Estate in the 1970 s. It was then a hi-tech dystopia, bleak and institutional. Poorly conceived and executed, it sadly went the way of many estates all over the UK. Regeneration appears to have taken the roughest angles off somewhat.
Think we lived in Doddington too, moved out may 1980
Oh how I love my Battersea! What nostalgia this brings of my childhood with my mates playing out on Doddington, Latchmere, Surrey Lane, Badric Court, Savona and many others. Compared to the gritty estates in other parts of London the Battersea estates felt really safe. Barely any trouble. Good old days! 😊
swiftlydoesit you would be surprised how it is now Lol
Doddy hasn’t changed much but some of the others like Surrey Lane have gotten kinda posh, with new builds for the rich folk dem taking over. Battersea is gentrification central.
I remember this estate well as it was just down the road from my old secondary school "Battersea County", which later became Battersea Park Secondary School.
I had to walk past Battersea county school to get to sir Walter st John's
, I actually lived right next to Battersea county but didn't get in
My mum lived on the doddington from 73 til she passed in 92 I used to visit her and help out in the family centre made costumes for the floats for the fete there in about 1979
I lived there as child before the estate was built, it was a road called Longhedge street, Victorian houses that stretched almost from the Latchmere to Queens town rd. When the estate was built my dad had a mini cab office in BPrd so when I was young I spent a lot of time putting mini cab cards through all the doors on this and most of the other doors on the Battersea estates.
Proper nostalgia I was brought up on the doddington in the 80's.
They pulled down Victorian houses that would be worth nearly a million pounds each now to build this estate.
To think in 1988 Denzel Washington was in a film 📽️ filmed on and around that rundown grubby Wandsworth estate.
Which film?
If you're referring to For Queen And Country that was filmed on the Brandon estate in Southwark
Are you sure this is the 80s and not late 70s ?
loved living there in the 80's best friends were jannet d donna d errol good people bmw and massive if you lived there you know
i was brought up their, russell court
Is there a date stamp/reference for this video?
id say around 1988. Londoner Exiled.
Does anyone know when the Tesco metro was built at the estate? I was trying to spot it at the very end of this video when it shows Tesco's car park but it seems that was also a car park area where Tesco is today (2021).
I can tell you that it used to be a Kwik Save Supermarket in the early/mid 1990s. It may have been there in the 80s too but I was too young to remember. After Kwik Save’s it became Morrison’s, before becoming Tescos more recently. Don’t know when the first supermarket was built there though.
bleak, soul-destroying, urban nightmare. the term "sink-estates" is not heard any longer... but that is what these are.
I dont agree my mum lived on the doddington from 73 till 92 when she passed and loved living there
Crime Ridden Dottington Estate.
Maybe now but not when my mum lived there from 75 til 92
Hell holes
They look like lego built housing...right near a train station that would be noisy as hell!! Thank god they don't build this sort of crap nowadays. But would not surprise me with the current goverment if they started building this way again.
I can't believe it, I used to go to them shop's.
