She sees you, even when the door is sealed, but you crave peace and normality. You find yourself wandering the cold woods beside your house to discard the key once more because once is never enough. Maybe she won't be back this time...just maybe.

So, ah, I actually did write my own story to this. Made up my own character and everything, haha. You can read it, if you'd like. Hopefully this isn't considered spam.

A Coraline-inspired story
Written November 7th, 2021
Buttons.
The kind meant to be sewn onto a coat or a shirt, or the kind the tiny look-alike doll of him had for eyes.
Now, they wanted to sew buttons onto _his_ eyes.
He had been told that he could stay there forever, that all he needed to do was replace his eyes with buttons. When presented with this offer of acceptance, he had merely stared. The buttons were round, perfectly round, and black as the night sky outside. Four tiny holes punctured each one, and should he accept this display of twisted kindness, dark thread would flow through each one and tie together in the ultimate design.
At first, he had truly considered his Other parents' proposition, especially when they offered to turn the buttons from black to olive, which he much preferred. It was true that he would much rather stay in the strange and wondrous Other World, where he gorged on as much cake as he wanted, shot things with his slingshot and was never scolded for doing so, ran all through the house with shoes muddy as can be.... where people paid attention to him.
However, the more he entertained the idea, the more it made his stomach turn anxiously and his mouth run dry. It would hurt, wouldn't it? When his dear Other Mother went to sew them in, it would pinch, at the very least. And what of his vision? Would he still be able to see afterwards? He couldn't guarantee that.
He had begun to tremble now, unable to tear his eyes away from the tiny buttons in the box, and had quickly shoved the box in question away. He paid no mind to his Other parents' concerned remarks as he made his way to the kitchen door and dashed outside.
He ran all through the garden, through the gates and over the bridge, not giving a single glance at any of the beautiful flora surrounding him. His mind was not on the beauty of this world anymore, but rather on the dullness of his own. He no longer cared if his true father worked early in the day and late at night, if his real mother was too ill to do anything for him, if he was scolded every few minutes for being "such a naughty child." He'd take it all back, all of it. It beat having buttons for eyes.
He ran and ran and ran, running farther than he had ever dared to go before. There were mountains in the distance, right? Or, at least, large hills. He wasn't sure. Regardless of what they were, he would head in that direction, and perhaps he could find his way home from there. His shoes and socks were continuously dirtied as he went along, mud splashing up at him, and at one point, he tripped, creating a true mess all over his clothes and face.
Wiping dirt from his face and grumbling to himself, he got to his feet and looked forward once more, only for his stomach to drop at the sight before him. He was.... back at the house? But how?? He had run _away_ from it, hadn't he? Had he perhaps taken a wrong turn? Looking around, however, he knew he hadn't.... and he knew the only true way to get home was through that little door. With the way he had reacted to the buttons, though, would his Other parents' let him go? They might sense that he was never to return.
Upon opening the door, he found them both still in the kitchen, having just finished cleaning up from supper. They turned their attention to him and grinned with relief. "Oh, darling, there you are!! We were so worried about you." His Other Mother cooed. "My, just look at what you've done to your clothes!!"
His Other Father chuckled. "Were we playing hide and seek in the rain again?" He asked. "You should've told me, sport!! I know all the best hiding places."
"Perhaps another time, dear. We've had all our fun for now." The Other Mother said. "Now that we've gotten that out of our system...."
She pulled the box of buttons from the pocket of her apron and held them out to him. ".... I'm sure we can be reasonable now, yes?"
He stared at the box once more, eyes wide and worried. There was no true way out of this, was there? No, he realized, there wasn't. He was to have buttons sewn into his eyes, and he would remain here forever, never to see his own world and family ever again.
".... Yes." He replied softly, taking the box.
"Yes, what?" The Other Mother asked. Though her eyes were replaced with buttons, her gaze seemed to grow firm.
"Yes.... Mother."

Coraline, a movie for kids that wasn't intended to be for kids.
However, this is a masterpiece everyone should watch at least one time in their life.
Actually, Neil Gaiman wrote the book for his daughter (who was 9 at the time), so it was intended for kids. That was the exact target audience.

Believe it or not, the music to this movie has always helped me sleep 🥰 my husband doesn’t understand but I find it so relaxing 🤷🏾♀️ I guess I’m strange in a way lol so be it.

Just saw this film yesterday and lemme tell you it’s honestly breathtaking. I could just imagine all the effort put into every single scene, even the lighter ones. I would honestly recommend it to everyone. Thanks so much for this, the overall soundtrack is a beautiful one.

Yes finally someone sees it. It’s a stunning work of art. I’ve loved it ever since I was a kid.
I watched it as a kid and wasn’t even phased by it (apart from one scene where I was very scared) and my best friend and I still love I so much

I can't believe I got to see this movie in the theaters when it came out, I was 9 and now im 22, it was my favorite movie for a long time and I wish I could go back for one moment and just feel like a kid again
we were the lucky ones to see it in theaters ! I remember everyone going “whoa!” we’re the pin when inside the button and pointed at the screen. I miss me a happy kid too. Coralline fans have that feeling
This movie always left me perplexed and confused. Although designed for a children's movie, it was scary. But in a beautiful, twisted way. One that would always made me go back and re-watch it again. Thanks for making this playlist!!

Coraline is such a nice movie. I first saw it a year or so after it came out when I was young. I would literally skip school just to watch it again and again. Sometimes my mother, whenever I misbehaved, would somewhat jokingly say that the other mother would take me. It scared me when I was young, but I always look back at those memories with fond nostalgia.
this reminds me i have a handmade coraline bracelet with the wybie note, cotton candy charms, a coraline doll, keys, the cat 🐈⬛ (….i think ill get it out for halloween)

It's so funny how, as a major film buff, I wouldn't say this is the best film ever made, by a long shot. And _yet,_ this is the movie I rewatch more than any other. There's just something about it that literally 100% satisfies the huge part of me that loves gloom, rain, sad poetry, the macabre, and the weird. But in such a calming, whimsical, takes-me-back-to-being-a-child kind of way.
I get extreme nostalgia while listening to this ❤cheers to memories and the to past that creates a safe space 🚀

I was 9 when the movie came out and I remember watching it with my mom and I loved it so much! Honestly I don’t get why people are saying that the movie is scary. I didn’t get scared of it at all, well I only got scared from the other mother tbh😂 But other wise I loved the movie as a little kid. I would watch it every night before going to sleep. This brings back so many good and nice memories! Thank you for creating this. I love you
when i was younger i had a dream where i found the tunnel from coraline in my childhood home, except it led to like a diagon alley version of my home. there were wizards wandering through endless halls and even a rope bridge spanning a vast living room of the house. i want to go back to that dream

Whenever I listen to this, I get the feeling that I've been transported to the Beldam's universe but I managed to escape from her in a panic - only to get lost in the surrounding forest around the Pink Palace. And so here I am. Sitting on a fallen log, cold, shoes and socks covered in mud and soaked to the bone with leaves in my hair. Despite the dew covered forest and rainclouds above, I managed to start a fire - a logical inconsistency I can only contribute to the unfinished world. Although my situation is dire, I'm oddly content with the sound of the fire and the spark of hope it gives me. I'll likely never get home, but I can try. Later. I've got fire to warm on my hands and, strange music in the distance to ignore.

the way this film makes me feel is so calm. A mental health professional could probably look into that and see that i have some deep trauma or issues, but just the melody of the music in this film with the characters, the colours and everything is just so soothing. it's little home town-y with miserable parents and a curious child. it's just so comforting to me. i love this video so much and it's helped me complete my uni essays in record time. thank you!

The other mother is genderbent and my original character acts as the beauty about to reform the tall handsome beast who tries to win her soul/heart. After all, who said button eyes aren’t charming? 😊
