- Here's how our family set up our Hearth & Story binder for fifth grade. Of course, there's no right or wrong way to set it up, so everyone's binder might look a little different!

I am super excited about Hearth and Story! Even though I already own stuff for ELA for next year, I have to get this as my son will be in 5th grade and I really like the sample (I especially like the overarching theme for the novel study). And seeing the binder setup shows how easy this program will be to implement. It looks great! Thank you so much for filling a much needed gap in the secular homeschooling world.

Excited to try this with my rising 5th grader. She has dyslexia so will have to use a separate spelling as it’s too advanced for her but hoping to utilize everything else ❤
Happy homeschooling! If you can, let us know what you are trying out for spelling this year. I believe we have a few other folks in our Facebook group whose students have dyslexia and could benefit from the reco!
My niece is dyslexic, and Sequential Spelling worked well for her.
This was so helpful! Getting a bunch of files can be overwhelming, but seeing how you set up the binder really helps me visualize it. Can't wait to use it with my daughter!
Thanks! It's definitely a lot since it's an entire year of all language arts subjects (387 pages, if I remember correctly!) so it definitely helps to have an organized binder!
Any plans to make lower levels maybe 3rd or 4th grade???
Great question! Right now, I'm working on getting the sixth grade level out. If there's enough interest in the future, I might consider creating a fourth grade level.
Hello! Did you create this with state standards in mind? I’m curious because my kids have been back in school for 2 years now, but I’m thinking about pulling my daughter out for 6th grade next year. (She’s had a horrible teacher this year and barely learned anything, and I’d like to boost her education to help her test into an advanced Language Arts class in public middle school…) Sooooo I will need to keep her up to date with state standards. It’s hard to find secular homeschool curricula that is standards-based! Thanks!

Hi Sarah! Hearth & Story is aligned to Common Core standards. At the beginning of each course component (usually around page 3) there's a list of Common Core standards that particular component covers. Fifth grade is out now (writing this on 2/18/24) and I'm working hard on sixth grade. The first novel study of sixth grade is out, and I'll be releasing each component as it becomes available, but right now it's too soon to say if the entire course would be out by the start of the school year. Hope that helps!
Hello! Are there any future plans to put all of the content for each day together? Just asking for those of us that would like to use the complete program. :)
With everyone's schedules so customized, it's impossible to tell folks what they should do as a "day" of work. For example, some people spread writing across three days of the week, while others do a one-day writing workshop each week. Some work on their novel studies five days a week, while others may have a four day week due to coops or field trips.

Do you buy all of it, each part separately or is there a package that includes all of it? For instance- if I buy The Complete 5th Grade LA for $25 do I also buy the 5th grade Full year LA bundle for $17?
If you want the full year, you only need the Complete 5th Grade Package for $25. The other items are parts of the complete package for people who are using another curriculum but just need one or a few items. If you download the free sample, you can see the suggested schedule. In a typical 5-day week, we do 5 spelling, 5 novel chapters, 1 writing lesson across 3 days, 3 grammar, 1 Brain Food and 1 poetry. Hope that helps! 20% off sale starts today (3/1/24)!

Looks beautiful! Is everything all in one (teacher and student pages)? I have two kiddos that would be working through together, so would I need to print double of everything ? 😬
@@SchoolWorkInProgress There's student work on almost every page, so the easiest would be to print one copy for each student. There are a few pages where the student isn't writing anything (mostly the texts of the short stories) but other than that, they are engaged with basically every page in some way.
