Thanks for being so objective and honest in your review. Most reviewers are not, so I really appreciate that. Just one comment about why they are so hard to keep clean. First, they are made of PIGSKIN, not suede. Pigskin darkens and cannot be returned to the light beautiful color it was when first unboxed. It is inferior to suede which maintains its buttery soft, light appearance. Pigskin just gets darker when exposed to the air and all its toxins -- and the nice texture flattens and does not bounce back, as opposed to suede, which retains its beautiful appearance and texture. Honestly, for the price of $200, New Balance should use suede and not pigskin in the 990 line. The 993, for the same price, uses premium suede. New Balance is cheating us by using pigskin on the 990 when the shoes cost the same as the 993 suede sneakers. Great review, thank you! (BTW, the v6 looks longer and more narrow than the v5. Would you say that is true?)
Just got my grey pair today. Came home & treated them with laces off with the protective spray I purchased at the store before leaving. I'll be lacing them up and wearing them tomorrow.
LOVE my pair. Something I’ve found useful is to let them dry after some rain, and then brush the suede one direction to fix any water damage. You can even use an old toothbrush. 30 second easy cleaning job!
Got these in Black, because the 990v5 Black colourway is not quite it. I swapped the grey laces for white and they are poppin. Almost like them as much as my grey V5s now!!
STILL my goto 99% of the time. Amazing sneaker, comfort. I do find my old 992 gray slightly more comfortable actually...just a tad perhaps. I did clean the V6 Friday night, no issues. Dry brushing of the outer, followed by Reshovinator (sp)...Brought the 'crunchy" suede back to life! I wouldn't say it's back to its super bright new looking condition, but far brighter than it was.
My 990 V6 has the exact same issue with the right shoe being tight across the toe box area. My pair was bought in Europe. Makes me think it’s a manufacturing issue rather than a one off issue
I had many of their 577 Walking all leather USA Made shoes for decades. I just toss in the washing machine and then air dry. Comfortable, rolling support, and easy to clean in addition to each lasting years. Now, I want a different look.
Hey there , I hope you can answer my inquiry . I jusr ordered these shoes in my actual size but seems it is a bit tight on the same spot you mentioned in the video . Will they loosen after time or shall i return them espcially is not cheap here in Germany , thanks a lot for your video :)
Great video mate! You knew a pair of NB's would hook me back in! I've been hanging my nose over a pair of these for a while now but I can't bring myself to part with the dough! 😂
Thank you for this. I had the same issue with the fit in the exact same spot. I think it's due to the new shape. These are the sleekest 990s we've gotten. Good to have it affirmed that with some wear in time that tightness will give
me too I have the same issue mentioned in this Video and just wondering if it is solved after wearing it for sometime because i just have 2 weeks to return it
How has that tight pressure point in the shoe feel now a days? The spot by the bottom of the laces. I’ve experienced that in other models/brands and it makes the shoe not fun to wear .
I’m torn between the v6 or the v3! They’re both price the same on NB. Do I go for the, imo, more retro and nicer silhouette of the v3; or the more comfortable and modern v6? I feel like I would get more bang for the buck in the v6. What are your thoughts if you could only pick one. Thanks boss!
Honestly, I would go with the v3 because it’s such a timeless silhouette. It’s such a comfortable shoe and there’s so many different colours to choose from
#erictrinh: Have you seen the 993? It's the best shoe NB makes. I've worn the 990v line and the 993. The 993 is far superior -- better made, better materials, great retro look, incredibly comfortable and supportive. 993 is made with premium suede, not pigskin, like the 990v6 and every other 990v. Suede retains it appearance much longer. Pigskin just gets dark and flat over time.
Does it feel platformy or like wearing a heels compared to 990v5? And do you think the midsole cushion will wear out overtime compared to v5 bec of the soft fuel cell cushion? And if you are given a chance to buy a new pair which one would you pick 990v5 or 990v6?
All great questions thanks for asking. To begin, no it didn’t feel like it was elevated higher to the point where it felt platformy or like a heel but it definitely sits a little higher. I think the FuelCell will have more longevity given that it’s a more performance based foam. I would most definitely buy the 990v6 again over the 990v5 because I do like the silhouette better
@@Zackuragi10 awesome thanks for the response. Looks like 990v6 is really a good comfy shoe given how highly you praised 990v5 on your last 12months review.
Copped it btw, I experienced the same tightness on the midfoot on both, I went TTS because width was ok except for the midfoot near logo, hopefully it gets looser as what happened to yor pair overtime. 😅
Got 'em. Sent 'em back same day. Love the v5. V6 uses inferior materials. Mesh on tongue is rough, scratchy and there is zero padding in the tongue. Sizing is totally different from v5. V6 is long and narrow. For me they've got too much cushion and too little support under foot. The outer soles don't feel durable, like they won't hold up for even 6 months. For me, v5 is a much better fit and a better quality shoe.
felt the same way - LOVE my V5 (and the V3 and V4 I had before that) but the V6 felt "off" immediately. The tongue is indeed flimsy and they overall feel cheap. I usually wear the 2E and they felt HUGE as far as width but the D were too narrow and tight - returned them and bought some Hoka Bondi 8's.
@@13ANNAMAN I love the way my v5s look but I tried some 6s on and they are more comfy. It's crazy we spend 200 bucks on made in US 990s with overbuilt uppers that are typically timeless designs but then they are still just foam on the bottom which wears out and gets less cushy after a year lol.
@@n1c64 when I was younger 86, or 1987 I had a pair of New Balance that I ran 6, 7 miles per day but I can't find a list of models from that time... I think it was the 990 series
there's absolutely no way these are comfier than the 993s or 990v3s. The foam on the v6s doesnt have the same level of compression as those older models

@Zackuragi what’s the breathability of the shoe? No one seems to bring that up.
what are the soles like on these are the soles still holding up also do these fit true to size
