    Founded in 2012, Tuft & Needle has become one of the largest bed-in-a-box retailers on the market, a pretty remarkable feat considering that the company has spent most of its operative years selling only one mattress. But that all changed this past February when, much to the clamor of fans on Reddit, the brand finally unveiled its second model: the Tuft & Needle Mint.
    Sleepopolis maintains an affiliate relationship with some of the products reviewed, which means we get a percentage of a sale if you click over from our video (at no cost to our viewers). Also, many mattress and sleep product companies send us their products for free with the hope that we will like it and review it. However, there is certainly no guarantee that we will review it favorably. See our full disclosures here: sleepopolis.com/disclosures/
    Today, I’ll be taking a side-by-side look at the Mint and its predecessor, trying to suss out what makes them similar and, more importantly, what sets them apart. And who knows-by the end of this comparison, you might just discover the bed of your dreams!

    I’ve been watching mattress reviews all week and this one was recommended for side sleepers on another video....but your review was more thorough and helped me feel more confident in choosing this brand. I’m 5’9”, 130lbs, side sleeper and i love soft feeling mattresses due to firmer ones causing should pain..I’m looking into the mint.

    What would be your opinion re: purple vs Mint? I'm interested in the Mint, which is a pretty similar price point to Purple. I do prefer a soft bed (I'm 100lbs, 4'10", multi-sleeper). Would using a featherbed-alternative topper be detrimental to the feel of a Purple (also do you have rec for down alternative toppers)?

    Hi Logan, would love to see a comparison video of the T&N Mint mattress vs the Casper Wave mattress!! We have the original T&N and found it to be too firm. They sent out a mattress topper which has helped a bit, but I'm still on the fence about whether to keep the mattress or not. We tried out the Casper Wave at our local mall (they have a retail store there) and I thought it felt great. However, the price of the Casper Wave is much higher than Tuft & Needle and at $2000 we reasoned that we might as well spend a few extra hundred and buy something like a high end Tempur-Pedic (while pricey, we loved their Tempur-Cloud series). How would you compare the T&N Mint mattress to the Casper Wave mattress? Do you have any recommendations? Thank you!
    For background, I am 5'10 160lbs and my wife is 5'4 110lbs. She can sleep on just about anything, whereas I tend to prefer something soft to medium. I'm usually a back sleeper and will move onto my side sometimes. My wife tends to be a side sleeper that will occasionally move onto her back

    Hi! Id love your suggestion between the Tuft and needle mint or original for my husband and I. I’m mostly a side sleeper but will lay on my back sometimes. I weigh around 118 pounds. Right now I have two herniated disc’s in my neck. My husband is mostly a back sleeper and weighs around 185. We took a sleep test at some mattress store and we both were in the soft category. I was in the middle of the softest level and he was towards the end of it by the firmer soft side but still in the soft category. Thank you!

    Hi Logan! First thanks so much for doing these videos🤘 I could use your help. I am 200-210 lbs side sleeper primarily. I just got a Casper and to me it feels excellent for stomach and Back sleeping but for side sleeping it does not do the job. I just don’t feel fully comfortable. Definitely feeling pressure points on my side. What is your recommendation for a bed that has better pressure point relief but still has occasional support for back and stomach sleeping? ThAnks again!

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  6 років тому

      Hi Matt - glad the videos are useful! So if Casper isn't doing the job on the side, you might consider a slightly softer mattress (though I wouldn't go too soft if you are stomach sleeping as well). You might also consider Purple - a totally different feel, but I think it's great for pressure relief as well.

    Thank you for the comparison. We currently have a T&N in our guestroom and are looking at replacing our mattress with one, but debating getting the Mint. I am a very warm sleeper so a cooler mattress is huge plus. I initially thought that the Mint would be the way to go with the additional graphite in the foam, but from your comparisons it sounds like the original is actually cooler due to the cover. Is that true?

On my current bed, I find that I get lower back pain in the mornings, almost like the mattress doesn’t fill in the space between my lower back and bed. hello- great review. we are looking for a new mattress. we have an old DWR Sonno Latex mattress (15 years). We feel like we are beaten up every morning. my shoulders are particularly sore (probably need a tempurpedic pillow for the head and a down pillow to support shoulder). currently, the mattress sits on a frame (low). We have decided to buy a box foundation to raise the bed up regardless of what we purchase as a mattress. I am 6'4" 200 lbs. Side sleeper. Wife is 5'10 145 lbs. back sleeper. We don't like sinking into mattresses or soft mattresses. We have a memory foam (or latex...not sure) topper that we will use with the mattress. Which king mattress would you recommend? Thank you. • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  5 років тому

      I think that the Tuft & Needles might be a little soft for you. If you're looking for a traditional innerspring I would check out WinkBeds or if you're in the market for a bed in a box then take a look at DreamCloud. With regards to the topper, if you don't like sinking into bed then don't use memory foam.

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  6 років тому +1

      Hi Duggan! I don't know the recommended weight limit from T&N, but just based on construction I think it should hold up well for sleepers on the heavier side (~250 lbs). Though I would check with them to confirm what they recommend based on their design.
      If heavier than that, you might check out a mattress designed for heavy sleepers - some of my favorite picks are here: sleepopolis.com/best-mattress/best-mattress-for-heavy-people/

    Great reviews! My wife and I are currently looking for a new bed. She is also 20 weeks pregnant! I saw this new mint version and I am torn between this, the Ghostbed, and a Serta iComfort 100 bed from mattress firm. Budget is around 1500. The Serta might have a free adjustable base. My wife is mostly a side sleeper (cause she is pregnant) and I am a back sleeper. We would like a medium firm type which is not too soft but not too firm where she feels pressure on the side. There are just so many options now! Thanks!

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  5 років тому

      First of all, congratulations! Second, I would say these are all great options. I personally really like the T&N Mint and think its a great option for sleepers. I will say that we see pregnant women change their preferences quite a bit, so you may also want to take into account what type of sleeper she normally is for after the pregnancy. Short term adjustments like mattress toppers can be a nice option to provide some added softness for pressure relief during pregnancy.

    Great review, exactly the info I needed when comparing both T&N mattresses. I'm leaning towards the mint, we have two original T&N's for our kids which my wife and actually really were impressed and love the feel of the original. But we do need the edge support for when the kids come into bed with us occasionally. I am only concerned of the soft feel. I'm 6'1 230 side & back sleeper and wife is 5'4 135 mostly side sleeper. Comfort is a bit hard to make a recommendation on (some people, including me, find the Mint very comfortable). Is there anything more specific you can say of what you didn't like with the Mint, or what you wish were a bit better?

      i wish the mint had a more firm feel all round instead of just on the edges because of the extra edge support is has. i cannot sleep comfortably in any position if im anywhere other than the edges of the bed. i realize im a heavy built guy and perhaps that is why. i also have a feeling that the more i lay on it the softer the foam becomes. once i get home and lay on the mattress it feels great but withing 30 minutes or so it softens up and i have to shift to another part of the mattress. im a little stressed out on what to do next, whether to keep it or switch to something else? is there another bed in a box matress you might recommend that may have a more firm feel through the entire mattress? thanks logan

    I have arthritis in my back and neck. I'm learning to sleep on my side after a lifetime of stomach sleeping. Which mattress would be best for me. I weigh about 165 lbs.

      As a stomach sleeper myself I know the struggle to switch is real. I like the Mint a bit better for side sleepers because of its soft feel.

      I assume these mattresses can be rotated but not flipped, right. Do regular sheets fit these or do I need to buy yours.

      Also I know I just missed the Presidents Day sale. Another coming soon?

      Correct, rotate don't flip. Any sheets you like will work.

      T&N doesn't usually run any deals on the original but the Mint currently has a $200 sale going on.

      T&N Mint is definitely designed to sleep cool - actually the company is based out of Phoenix, so they'd have a lot of complaining employees if that weren't the case 😂😂

    The graphic of the 200lb fella is a lot unflattering. Good video/demo, though.
