You have to be joking about that Steinhart... it's super thick and shameless copy. I have nothing against homage watches but this one is just a mere copy. On the other side that Longines is a great watch for the price, didn't know about it until now and I would like to thank you for mentioning it. All the best in the New Year Armand.
An interesting video spoilt only by the amount of 'ummms' and 'errrrs' in your narration. If you have a speech impediment then all apologies, if not - maybe just slow down a touch or use notes perhaps.
Quartz movements can be fantastic. Case in point, the reissued caliber 2100 by Citizen (or Miyota?). It's not only put together by hand, it is also a limited edition, and it's fairly mechanical with the slap back chronograph. People are missing out a lot by "dismissing" quartz movements.
Nice video, Which watch do you recommend new Longines hydroconquest chronograph with ceramic bezel and column wheel chronograph movement ref: L3.783.4.96.6 or Breitling superocean special edition with ceramic bezel with Eta28-24 chronometer movement ref: Y1739316/C959/158S/A20SS.1
Excellent video. I just found your channel. I've watched about 10 videos and am liking your style. I'm in the same boat as you, being on a budget. You approach your watch choices as I do, value for money/features for money and not prestige. Though those big name brands are definitely a goal one day. I've owned a Tudor but unfortunately had to sell it. Anyway, keep it up man, love the content.
I have a Speedy 'moon watch' as my daily wear. I got it as much for it's automotive history as space travel, the moon missions happened when I was a young child. It is my grail watch. I have a fairly physical job and have been wanting something more affordable so I can put it in retirement. This excellent video has given me some things to think about. A Bulova 'moon watch'? I have always liked Bulova, was thinking of getting a CURV, but another extraterrestrial would be more consistent. A tad too big though. I'm sure the CURV is also large, but because of the shape it might wear smaller. On pure looks? The Tudor might be the sweetest of the lot. Not the blue and cream, but the other one. White with black subdials. A guaranteed tough as nails movement. Plus at the end of the day, who are we kidding? There is no substitute for mechanical movements to a watch lover.
Chronographs are tricky. For instance both Omega and Vacheran Constantin use the same Piguet based movement, and of course they charge different retail depending on brand.
Hi Armand. I have just received the convoy watch roll that you recommended just before Christmas. It is quite superb, and I am extremely grateful to you for providing such excellent content in your videos. I believe I may be the 8,000th subscriber.... many congratulations on growing the channel so well. I genuinely believe this to be the most enjoyable watch channel on UA-cam, always full of well informed content and comment. There's pure class and there's genuine class, and you are the latter .
Thank you very much Armand I thoroughly enjoyed watching that post. I don't know if it's my imagination, but your videos appear to be getting evermore refined almost to the point of elegance. I especially enjoyed seeing those two Tudor pieces together , the Vintage from 1973 right up to the more contemporary 2013 model. Great to be able to see the similarities right there in front of you. Round dial aside the face of both those watches put me very much in mind of the Tag Monza and also, to a lesser degree some Seiko Bullheads I've seen in the past. What about that Steinhart though! That watch has been on my own personal radar more or less since its release. Many people complain about the piece at 18mm being way too deep and untrue to Rolexs original concept with the Daytona. At around £900 I believe that watch to be a gift. I truly believe that this could be a definite small investment piece as I think the watch will absolutely maintain its price and I can easily see this piece costing considerably more on the second hand market a year or two down the line as demand far outstrips supply . I'm really looking forward to seeing your review of the Bulova Moonwatch also. This another, once you look past the fact it's a quartz, excellent watch. Anyway, that's more than enough from me for now. Many thanks again for a truly enjoyable and to an extent educational video. Take care bye for now.
The Sinn chronograph is the real quintessence of the term ''tool watch'', I'm really impressed. Bulova did great job with this reissue of their ''moon watch'', but IMO the use of quartz movement brings down the value of the watch significantly - a mechanical hand wound chrono would have been a killer option.
Hi there. Great reviews. I have recently come across a Hamilton Navy Sub on clearance (around USD 600) with an H31 movement. What are your thoughts on it? Thanks.
fyi- DD chronographs are serviceable by independent watchmakers relatively inexpensively (I've had one done in a speedy reduced) however parts for the module are harder to come by.
The Bulova (pronounced 'Bulooova' incidentally) Precisionist has a rather better chrono feature ... 1/1000th of a second accuracy whilst maintaining the other advantages of the 262kHz movement, 10secs pa accuracy etc. I thought this important to point out considering the true purpose of a chronograph. I would also argue the Alpha Paul Newman homage (under $200) and the Seagull 1963 (under $300) should not have been omitted if Value-For-Money was important as your video's title suggests.
Brian Hinder: Thank you for the comment. I agree, the Precisionist is a tremendous watch and does improve upon the features of the Moon Watch. However, the Sea Gull and Alpha are simply too poor quality to include in the video. I have owned a Sea Gull powered Alpha Daytona and I have had to send it in for repair 3 times, once due to the crown, twice due to the movement. I has now broken for the fourth time and I no longer see any point in returning it for repair. Therefore, I could not advise the Sea Gull.
You're 100% right. Quarz based watches should have been much better represented in this list as well, offering "better features at a much lower price" said around the 40sec mark. Watches like Seiko's SSC021. Brands like Longines, Tudor and Sinn are luxury brands, nice watches granted but well beyond the realm of "value for money".
I enjoyed this video. Yes, as some have pointed out, other brands could have been included, but one has to draw a line at some point or we would be watching for hours! For me and my taste, the Longines mono-pusher is the pick of this bunch, but as I've said, that's a personal choice. I don't understand why Longines aren't respected today as they still make great watches and some really great ones now and again. All the best for 2017.
Not trying to sound snobby but why does anyone give a crap about an in-house quartz movement? I like the bulova, i think, aesthetically, its great and I wouldn't mind one in my collection... but i wouldnt walk around praising it saying its an in-house quartz lol.
With you there Bro. The watch snobs hate Bulova because the blow their shitty autos out the water... Less than 10 seconds a year accuracy ?? Beat that ???
That is exactly what I thought! Omega beats Tudor, and between the Heritage Chrono and a Speedmaster Racing at about the same price the Omega seems the better value. I'm not generally a fan of Omega but their heritage relative to Tudor is undeniably superior.
The Breitling Transocean 38mm is a beautiful timepiece and one of the few chronos out there under 40mm.
Bulova just destroyed the moonwatch by making it 45mm.
They would have a top seller if they didn't make it so big.
Mały XL Agree completely..I would have been all over this at 40-41mm...Such a shame..
Mały XL being 6ft 8 with a 20cm wrist it suits me fine. Horses for courses.
James Beeney size options would be nicer tho!
It’s fricking huge......not a fan. I’ll take the Omega any day.
Wears like a 42-43
Thank you

Tom Saint your moms super thick.
That's a good one, so funny. Fk idiots everywhere.
Longines Rock ..Bettter quality than Tudor , Oris , etc. Watch snobs will never tell you that...
Have you considered the Alpina Diver Heritage
To bad that steiny is 18mm thick..
Trevor Bohnsack Yeah :(
unacceptable

Left Past Saturn 5
What do you think about the Sinn 356 sa III or in general the 356 series ?
Great video. I love the Bulova Moon Watch. Your selection is superb and your opinion very valid. Happy New Year.
Geekanoids O
Geekanoids a coy investment right now. The Bulova will increase in value. when it is dis-countiued ...
Nice video Armand. The Longines looks great indeed. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the great video! I own the first two watches mentioned, it was nice to have my choices validated somewhat.
Armand, thank you for the videos. You provide a very insightful view into the (alter) top end watch market. Cheer man.
Hamilton Pan Europe is a great looking and reliable entry. It was $599 for Xmas at Ashford. I do love that Longines, but a little much $.
That Longines is $1800 OBO on Ebay. That is on the edge of my affordable list. Hmmm.
I love the Hamilton Pan Europe, but the Chronograph is around $1200-1500.

Andrew Piatek Amen brother 😎👍⌚️🕙
I wonder how long the battery lasts in the Bulova. If one cares about elegance, Longines is the way to go.
Gonna look into that longines myself. Have couple others already.

Wow, really BIG watches are the rage. I think I will just strap up the good old grandfather clock in the hallway, sigh.

Hello Armand! 6:53 "the three subdials on the bottom ..." it's called "tri-compax layout" (based on the universal geneve tri-compax watch).
fyi- DD chronographs are serviceable by independent watchmakers relatively inexpensively (I've had one done in a speedy reduced) however parts for the module are harder to come by.
Bit more pricey, but here's our selection of the best iconic chronograph swiss watches. ua-cam.com/video/cPScc_Ctib4/v-deo.html
Great Channel. Thanks!
Any vintage Seiko chronograph ..
Sinn U1000 - it's actually a copper sulphate capsule, not copper oxide used to reduce/eliminate humidity.
Armand, can you tell me the model number of the Longines Chronograph Monopusher?
Meh, think I would rather save up the money and get a speedmaster, or maybe a Grand Seiko.
I think it would be useful in your video notes to include the calibres you discuss for easier reference.
What's the name of the piece of music used at the beginning please?
No Hamilton X-Wind or Christopher Ward C60 Pro Trident Chronograph?

Armand The Watch Guy
Brian Hinder wish that Bulova wasn't 45mm ...I'd be all over it...Hate it when they oversize re issues
The Bulova UHF 262 Khz movement at the price point should never be underestimated This is my work horse. Precision is paramount.

mark percival are you longines user?nice
Im abbonee number: 7.777

6:32 18mm height too thick
Why does one need a tachymeter on the moon?🤔
Kelly Robinson why does one need an orange in an apple orchard?
Good selections! (except for that Steinhart horror.)
Hmm...looks like I'll be getting a quartz watch!
Steinhart section ends at 7:57
No Speedmaster Professional? I got mine for $3500 USD at an AD last year, it's the best in value imo.
plus tax?
That is exactly what I thought! Omega beats Tudor, and between the Heritage Chrono and a Speedmaster Racing at about the same price the Omega seems the better value. I'm not generally a fan of Omega but their heritage relative to Tudor is undeniably superior.
krbcrwlr I bought mine when I visited Japan, so no tax.
MaseratiMC12R good day. What is an AD?
+yankeesuperstar AD means Authorized Dealer. Hope this helps.
Avoid In-House quartz because it will cost $$$ to replace the movement in the future IF you can even find a replacement movement
BULL-oh-va, not bull-OH-va. Inexcusable error for a professional reviewer. Otherwise, nice video.
I watch a lot of your videos, and I question your credibility. Why a Speedmaster was not in this lineup is beyond me.
