Born in SD in '73 and lived in University City, Oceanside, Vista for 33 years, now in Trinidad CO. Cool to see this history and recall the beach surf skate scene. Thx!

      ha that's funny. cheers!
they skipped right over roller blading though. Inline skating and drumming, kept me fit and outta trouble for the most part. Spent my last four years living across from Mission Cafe, at 727 San Juan. $300 each. A stones throw from the sand. Good times. But I started to get an itch. I met so many Colorado kids that came out to live at the beach, it got me thinking of the mountains. Didn't take long, and only required a little push and I was out the door. Discovered the South West first, and just never left.
'67, from La Mesa, Mt Helix area, then Pacific Beach for a while. left at age 30 for Colorado, never looked back. Got a cabin at 8500'... quiet and relaxed, a peaceful life in the South West.

'89-'97 for me. yeah inline skating was a huge part of our lives, for my roommate and I. Cruising the streets, jumping, and climbing on shit. Took about a year to get good. Always hurting, and fucked up. Then it slowly got easier, and the falls were fewer. Then we got really good, and it was unbelievable. Skating on acid or high as fuck... just skating, all night and most days. Hitting 7/11 and doing a super big gulp of soda! Our stomachs could take anything back then. haha. Not anymore.
We'd hit Balboa Park, Mission Beach, or P.B. around 9 or 10pm, when its quieter and empty of people... and go nuts, skate hard and fast... get home at 2am, smoke a few more bowls, go to bed. wake up, practice drums, teach a few lessons, then repeat if I didn't have a gig. those were some days!
