i just got stiffed out of $10,000 by an “employer” i spent 2 months on a project and then found out that they intentionally went out and bought a bunch of things and spent a bunch of money on projects knowing they were about to file bankruptcy. The bankruptcy judge wouldn’t return the product and allowed them to keep it, but wrote off my fee completely as an unsecured debt. wtf
I have worked for free intentionally and also have a couple real companies that took my work products and complained while refusing to pay...fun career it was!
I lived the dream from 1999 to 2016, lol. The anxiety was intense. Would I make rent or not? What can I stop paying for that I don't need? How do I file schedule C? What is my home office and do I have a larger space I can use for it? My health put me out of the game so now I live on my ss disability insurance. Which brings up a point I guess: make sure to file your taxes properly as you live the gig economy dream so as to keep earning ss work credits.
It was the next step from contract work. All to off load and expense on the worker, as well as the risk. The gaslight is that it's better, freer, etc. But, in reality, it's working you harder for less and no security. Of course the corporations love it.
Sorry about that deceptive agent. I appreciate your wide range of skills, your musical talent is very impressive to me, your life experience offers a perspective that I get from very few people. Thanks for taking the risks that you take in order to extend your expressions in a way that may help others to expand their thinking as well. Or at least that's the thought I try to hold......namaste.....
It's a double-edged sword. It took a long time for me to realize that when you work for someone else, you are a "human resource," an expendable meat puppet. I've spent too many years putting money in other peoples' pockets.
The discussion topic feels like a caste system getting overlaid on folks' source of income, and all the prejudices that build up in such an arrangement. It's going to take generations to unwind this carp, if the billionaires ever allow it again.
My fellow netizen, it is your inaliable right to add the adblock plus, ublock, sponser block, privacy badger, and duckduckgo addon extensions to the Brave browser at any time you wish.
I'm sorry I missed Frantone, that would have been cool. I watched one video a while back where you fixed one of your old pedals. It was well worth the watch. Sorry someone "stole," your busking money. 😉
Fran forgets that her experieince is not the experience of others. I worked in the gig economy for 12 years successfully. No complaints. UA-cam is not the only thing in the world, Fran.

@@sparkyobrian6417 happened to us during covid; we lost an entire years worth of income on such a project.

Employee wages are one of the highest priorities to be paid in bankruptcy court. It sounds like you're a contractor and don't know the difference.
The gig economy only a race to the bottom. We compete against each other. Corporations win..
Absofuckinglutely!

I would really like to see you and Adam Savage do some videos together.
or Dave. The linked space coverage with Dave a few years ago was great, even though it didn't work 💯
NW traffic? I forgot what happened. 🤔
I could not agree more. IMHO employers will not get their best work from casual workers so it is shooting themselves in the foot.
Danke!
Some people dont want to be paid in Drink Tickets
Did this Brazilian lawyer claim that the song was copyrighted? Or taken from another song?

Bless you Fran.

What's down with the gig economy , you mean .
It's a double-edged sword. It took a long time for me to realize that when you work for someone else, you are a "human resource," an expendable meat puppet. I've spent too many years putting money in other peoples' pockets.
And Elon Musk wonders why birthrates are down.

Love you. Keep up the good fight😊
Do you get a cut from paid youtube accounts? I can’t stand the commercials they add. It’s costing me $15 a month to watch.
