Hey bud, I'm a fan of your content. I just have one question. How did you where able yo play the rest of the demos (besides the kickstarter and blast demo)? For some reason in one of them told me that I wasn't connected to steam for some steam file. Is there a solution or I need to do some steam shenanigans?
You know, there's something charmingly simple about the first demo that I find very endearing. That dash animation was just begging for an upgrade, though. Also, thank goodness the red room theme got preserved in the full game, it's such a bop!
I really miss the "HEY, HEY!" and the "WA-HA-HA-HAAA" from earlier versions. But I love how this game came to be, I've been religiously following its development since I first played Pizza Tower in mid 2023. Awesome job, awesome game
You can clearly tell when this evolved from becoming inspired from Wario Land 4 to being its own game with its own identity. Ver 2.1.1 is definitely where it started to really come into its own, especially with that title screen.
It was really weird how different Anton (And a lot of other characters too actually) looked in Antonblast compared to Antonball. I’m not complaining though, I love the new designs.
I like how the visual evolution of the first level happened, yet the layout is still basically the same. I also think it's the right move that they made Anton animate less like Wario, I think this game shows a lot of influences from non-Wario games that I think it's fair for Anton to move away from that direction. Considering Wario Land 3 is the only one to have a modern rerelease, I think just comparing the game to Wario Land might give people a very different impression to how the game is paced. Everything is paced a lot more like DKCR/DKCTF levels, and some of the later levels especially feel like they have a lot of callbacks.
I find fascinating how the speedrunning angle caused both Anton Blast and Pizza tower to evolve from their original concepts. Both games started as more faithful spiritual successors to Wario land 4 and both decided at some point in development to place fast speedrunning at its front gameplay-wise., something that going back to WL4 it doesn't really go for it. I almost forgot that besides the escape sequence, Wario was way more focused on the puzzle platforming aspect of it all. while Anton and Pizza tower decided to focus on a more high-thrill boost gameplay.
Also warioland isnt about speed, it focuses around secrets and plataforming, and is nice to see PT and antonblast go for a diferent route. Pt: focuses on speed and the "secrets" are just extra rooms that are really limited in the levels, the main goal (or the perfect goal) is to go very fast doing all the secrets and completing the level. And antonblast: it is slower than PT, because it focuses more on exploration, like the red rooms, rooms with more coins/chips, that give a lot of score, etc. Also the artist direction, PT is focused on elastic cartoony style, while antonblast is focused on hyper staturated animation, the entire screen is just chaos and reminds me of the early cartoon network shows
I wasn't around for the first demo but when I went back and rewatched someone's remix of Its happy hour from Like 2 years ago yesterday and actually paid attention to the gameplay in the background my mouth was actually agape at how different it looked
The early demos seemed slower paced than the final versions. Either the updates makes the game too easy or a big improvement with a balanced difficulty.
I don't know if this is rude to say, but I kinda prefer the kickstarter's more rustic lighting to the final build's more nuclear lighting. Idk, it just ties better in with ANTONBALL and feels more like a proper shady city than some kind of toxic waste dump
Not gonna lie, I much preferred the dash from Dynamite Demo. The spin dash just feels a little to cluttered imo. Still though, incredible to see how much boiler city changed!
I'm fine with most of the changes made in the final. I only wish they kept the Wario shoulder bash animation and the Wario Land 4-style laugh. I wish they had kept some of that Wario influence so that it would feel like a true spiritual successor.
Well Summit probably decided that Antonblast should have a more distinct personality from Wario Land 4 at that time, so they removed those for whatever reason. The second one wasn’t really necessary though imo Edit: Forgot to add a word
I only ever played the full game and never saw any demo or prerelease footage until this video. I have to say that the chips used to be a whole lot better, both visual and audio. Wonder why they changed them.
So sad the antonblast demo on steam it's semi dead, i have it but i can't start it, atleast the archives are there, i gonna play the kickstarter, first dynamite demo and the one blast before *buying* the god damn game...
@alexanderthegreat-mx5zu The thing I'm not buying the game right now, at least i think, but *in the ( virtual ) end* I gonna blast myself because i gonna buy it
I think in the final release in first level colors are too saturated. Especially the fact it's all green and red like the main character, I find the brown of old demos way more eyes pleasing
The game STARTS with anton or annie jumping from the apartment idk why here it's with door but at least the first time the game starts with the apartment animation
for any of you wondering where you can download these demos: a link is in the description!

@@deimianhere9112 on the internet archive page i linked, near the bottom of the description it tells you two files you need to delete to fix that
@frostyfoxteals OOOOOOOOOh srry im stupid. Thanks man
Talk about a huge evolution just looking at the first demo compared to now you can see a heckton of difference
Nah so many stuff got devolved from first build
I guess you could say Anton of different
devolution
i miss so much the anton and annie "HA-HAHA-HA-HA!" every single day....
You can definitely see the point at which this game's movement became crazy fast

Anton is the type of dude to drink all the shampoo in the house
And then he blames you for doing that
Nah, that seems like more of a Wario thing to do
@@momothemagecatYeah, I think that was even one of his tips for summer
nice susie deltarune reference

Thabk you for making this. As a guy who heard nothing about this masterpiece before five days ago, this vid is extremely interesting.
I still miss the sounds the poker chips used to make

how is the old anim direction wario-like
He has a shoulder bash for one.
For two, the animation is much more subdued then it would later become
It is so weird to me that clutch boosting wasn’t always a part of Antonblast but I dunno what I expected
The rime when anton blast wasn't inspired of crash at all
Only wario land
it terrifies me knowing i remember when it got implemented 😭😭
I do miss the old sound effects foe the chips, they were so satisfying. I'm assuming they changed the sound to be more subtle and less intrusive?
Kinda weird how anton's older lines sounded like wario's from WL4
@@kirbtunia1061 it was actually Anton’s voice from the predecessor, antonball deluxe, the same is said for Annie.
The clutch really feels like a bug or random offshoot one of the developers discovered and they just ran with it
Best decision ever

@frostyfoxteals It’s because Peppino and Anton are close friends, and not to mention their release dates are only 1 year apart

I hope you still can get access to the first demos and the early ones for the memories
You can definitely find them on the Internet Archive somewhere
There's a page on the Internet archive with a collection of all the demos of the game up to the one blast demo
check the description
A giant nitpick, but I prefer the manholes to the dumpsters.
the green and red boiler city has kinda grown on me but i still will always prefer the original palette
i remember playing dynamite demo 1.2 on my brother's laptop

@@cryodual to be fair, in AntonBlast’s canon, it takes place during a post apocalypse. Which explains the more nuclear looking colors and vibe
I mean yeash, It does take place in an apocalyptic place. But wouldnt they just change the background to green?
Wait post apocalype... Where did you find that info bro
I still Have the First Demo on My Computer from The Kickstarter Page.
Not gonna lie, I much preferred the dash from Dynamite Demo. The spin dash just feels a little to cluttered imo.
Still though, incredible to see how much boiler city changed!
@@GMan9029 i kind of like the spin, makes you more awesome i think
Not enough crash bandicoot in your life?
Honestly, the sprouts to crates change for the beets felt really needed; it kind of broke up the pacing trying to get them
to be honest i prefer the heartbeets being in crates compared to what felt like a shoehorned-in reference to doki doki panic

holy FUCK the kickstarter demo looked so rough
imo the game started picking up steam around the dynamite demo, the clutch was such a needed addition 😭
did you know that the original game name was going to be red guy: the game?
do you have a source for this info
@frostyfoxteals the miraheze wiki from antonblast
@Wellintovich oh okay interesting...i don't know why they would name it that since antonball already existed before this but sure
