going to watch later Colin but been looking forward to someone knocking out a cheap design, me being tighter than 2 coats of pint and a true yorkshireman. This will come in right handy for my weekends at the caravan Cheers for all the hard work
Ideal for that. Not cheap but hell of a lot cheaper than a commercial one.
Awesome job my friend! I just finished my and still have to run some tuning on the wires. Thank you for sharing, 73s
Been looking for High band / mini-hexbeam for 15m up so your comment was music to my ears 🙂
Yep, I think it would be a popular antenna. I've not seen any like this.
It's coming along Colin and the small one looks grat also!! Oh by the way I used the same web site and my elements came out long also.
Thanks for sharing. What a great project you have achieved, be good to see how it works to vk/ zl, as 20m is the only band open down here, but did get into gm recently on 20m ssb.
To be honest it would look well out of place in my garden compared to my discreet verts, and I wouldn't have the patients, time or money to attempt that. But I am very interested to see how it fares with some long haul dx.
Well done Colin, 73.
Thanks mate. Yes its not too discrete. provides much convenience though a a beam on 20m up. Even I wont get it up too much. I have a couple of days to myself in July and hope to make the most of it, probably 20m through the night conditions permitting.
Great job Colin. The light weight is very interesting, could you share the packed down size to please?
Thanks Mate. Its just over 1m long, perhaps 1.2m. I need to measure exactly. The idea is it will all fit into a speaker stand type bag. Pretty portable.
Do you feel you will sell these as kits one day? I really like what you have done, and the antenna looks great. Thanks for sharing. 73s
Hi Colin, great project and really interested in building one myself. Any chance you think a fibreglass pole could support the hex beam, like your 12.4m DX Commander? They themselves sell plastic hose clamps used for each section, which I'm thinking might be good enough for the downforce if you put the hexbeam 6m up it. Cheers!
If guyed properly then yes. The issue you will have is how to attach the hexbeam to the mast.
@@MM0OPXFieldRadio thanks a lot Colin! I love the idea of using it with my (semi) portable mast. Thanks for the reply and the video, much appreciated
Collin, are you going to release a complete video vuild start to finish of the lightweight field hexbeam? I'm planning on a trip to the South Pacific in 2 years or so and I'd love to be able to build this antenna to take along for some activations. Even your constructions notes from your cloud drive if your willing to share those would be very helpful.

I'm also a UA-camr if you'd like to check out my channel, VO1OP's Ham Radio Adventures.
Michael, it wont be one big video but a series of smaller videos looking at individual sub assemblies. Same result. I will update documentation as I go.
Can use 1:1 Balun replace choke balun ?
Yeah, they are one and the same. Search for the presentation by GM3SEK on this topic.
Wow, only 4, 5Kg! Amazing , ok now I need to watch all from beginning, this will be my ultimate qrp weapon .Many 73s de M7SZY
It looks incredible Colin and considering its weight it looks in very good shape too, thanks for sharing.
Your welcome.
