Analysing Gvardiol's HYBRID Winger Role

- Опубліковано 11 тра 2024
- Joško Gvardiol has been deployed in a unique manner for the past few months of the season. But why, and what are the consequences of this?
In this video, by analysing Gvardiol's utility and versatility, I try to answer what the pros and cons are of this relatively new role, and what the long-term future holds.

No one could tell that he is a cb by watching that first goal, genuinely insane. What a player he is.
Lovely kit btw
It’s mad isn’t it? We could be looking at the most versatile CB in football history…
Thank you! Inspired by KDB and Doku
@@Nobbins he's been doing it since Dinamo Zagreb days when he was only 17, dude can play literally every position on the pitch
@@Nobbins He would be dominant in any position in the field. He actually played everywhere throughout the youth system. it's not only about his physical and technical ability but also his brain and calmness it's out of this world. There was a particular moment in the 2022 WC match where Croatia is fighting to go through against Belgium (not the one where he stops Lukaku 2m from the line) but 20 seconds after that it's 1 min of stoppage time left and there is a semi high through ball played from Hazard into the run of Lukaku. 99.99% of players including the likes of Luka Modric and all other tech gifted players would clear that ball first touch, while this 19/20yrs kid stops it with outside of his boot and plays it calmly around the pressure of KDB to his team mate for Croatia to keep possession of the ball. We all praise ball playing CB but this guy is on another planet when it comes to that. He was maybe the best player in that WC (ofc bias would say it's Messi etc.) and defenders never get the praise they deserve anyway.
that belgium kit is 🤌🤌
Yet one idiot will later say pep bought a world class defender.
As a Liverpool fan this guy is the one who scares me the most of all of City's players. He is capable of absolutely anything and is a killer in any position, he will soon be the most valuable player in the world, Gvardiol is absolutely terrifying and is still only a kid, I shudder to think what he will be like at 25.
This is what surprises me the most about Guardiola. Last season you could see that City was world class in every single position except for the left back and goalie at times, and at the same time there was this left center back that could play as a left back in Leipzig, exactly the same position and role as Ake but with better physical and technical qualities, it was a match made in heaven. And now this kid is playing as a false winger in City and is being world class. Gvardiol playing high, Stones in midfield, Kimmich as a right back, Cancelo as a cdm, Mascherano as center back, etc. He just sees things no one else does, is brilliant.
Prem fans are one of the most stupid I've ever seen. Inter Milan literally used this tactic with bastoni last year against you that's y they did so well. Bologna do this too even Milan try it a bit. No wonder serie a will always be the graveyard for coaches and the best tactical league in the world where 90 percent of all football tactics originate from smh.
Future Ballon d'Or contender
Cannavaro´s defense follower as a Ballon d´Or winner.
@@pellevanlig245 Cannavaro > Puyol
Josko himself said he was a striker early on in his career so that killer instincts still exist in him.
Blue lock type shit. Which makes sense imagine a team where all players are goal scoring threats
He was a midfielder in his youth before switched to offensive defense.
That's what I did in FC career mode and I've been unbeatable, not only goalscoring threat but also box to box traits in all player @@Himsagi-Artz
I hope he has a brilliant game against Tottenham. He should just improve his crossing, and we are in for a treat.
He had a brilliant game
@@mirkecWii he is becoming selfish. Failed to cross to haaland in the first half, and denied a through pass to haland in the 2nd
@@goodman4093 he is doing exactly what Pep wants him to do, and passing to Haaland isnt always the better option these days
@@goodman4093 I don't think he controlled ball well enough and it looked like a shot instead of passing it to haaland.
@@LucijaCexactly. He seems to focus on attacking despite being instructed tod defend
Gvardiol is a new weapon 🙌 arsenal have nothing like this, next season is going to be hard but with advantages like him we can do it again
Timber is similar but we don't know how good Timber is yet
We are so lucky that has a player like this.
great analysis! I feel like he's truly an unicorn. his technical ability and physique makes him be able to play any defensive position and to go forward. I can also see him in a John Stones role... also, watch the goals he scored for RB Leipzig, some of his finishes are out of this world (for a defender) so this scoring of late is not that surprising
Madrid game 💀. I'm so mad not for losing but pens cmon. We played so good. We gave constant attacking threat 😢
Prem fans are one of the most stupid I've ever seen. Inter Milan literally used this tactic with bastoni last year against you that's y they did so well. Bologna do this too even Milan try it a bit. I said it from the start when he made his debut or like second match that i understand why we paid so much for him. He’s definitely worth it given how big he is and young yet he is still so agile and technical
im here to support the tactics board 👍😎👍
Big up the tactics board
Great video Nobbins!
Gonna be the best city creator in a few years 🎉
Exelent description - "hybrid winger" ➖ Josko 💙💪
Croatian roots, Spanish school, Dalic and Croatia got brand new GOAT left back, cocky English (or oil) paying for it... Proud to be Croat!
🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷
Croatian players are heating up just in time for euro 🇭🇷🔥💪⚽️
Also robbed at Eurovision. They had the best song by a mile!
@@Nobbins I agree. Baby Lasagna's 3 concerts sold out in minutes. That just shows how good he is.
Love the Belgium kit. Heard somewhere it’s a reference to Tintins outfit which is pretty cool
Yeah it’s gorgeous
Great analysis! Learnt something new. Look forward to your next one.
Super analysis if Gvardiol learns how to cross the ball better we could be in for treat next season
That’s the next step in his evolution for sure. Learn that and it’s lights out
Already Excited to see how he plays in year 2
great analysis as always Nobbins
Great analysis. Thx Nobbins
Enjoyed watching this, keep it up 👍🏻
Hey nobbs, love your content, as requested, great again, its rich
Incredible analysis
Great vid 🦈
Amazing video ❤
As a Croatian, I have been following Gvardiol since his time at Dinamo. I’m super excited to have him join one of my favorite clubs in the world. I’m looking forward to having him on the national team for a long time! Great analysis! I am curious what do you think about Kovačić? I am still indecisive about him, especially in the national team.
Ma mlitav lik gospe ti, samo gleda kako će izgledat bolje kad pada.
@@Dalmate00 hahahaha
Great analysis
Thank you my lovely
Excellent analysis.
Even in his teens, Gvardiol's potential was visible from an airplane. He is built like a tank, but also very fast and intelligent, and his technique is great which comes as a no surprise since he played as a striker in youth categories.
Croatia has struggled with wingbacks for years, now we have Gvardiol and Stanišić, two absolute monsters. Juranović was brilliant and Sosa was solid during WC2022 so even our substitutes are of good quality now. We call this type of situation 'slatke muke', literally 'sweet struggles'. :D
Livaković, Šutalo and Erlić are always good in national team. Midfield will remain solid even after Modrić and Brozović retire, with the likes of Kova, Majer and new young talent that is entering the roster (keep an eye on Martin Baturina, Marco Pašalić and Luka Sučić, all extremely talented). Also, Pjaca revived his carrer after being plagued by injuries for years during his tenue in Juventus, when in shape, this guy is a killer winger. Ivanušec, Perišić and Oršić are also healthy now.
About the only thing we need for another dark horse run at EURO is a solid #9, a type of player we didn't have since Mandžukić retired.
I’ve been looking forward to this video since you talked about it recently. What I’m interested in is do you think Gvardiol can have a similar relationship with Grealish as he does with Foden when Foden is LW? The opposite of the Grealish/Cancelo? Or even Doku when he plays LW? If he can with all 3, wow!! Thanks Nobbins!
100% mate! I should’ve mentioned that in this video.
I think it would be a really good relationship. In fact, we SORT OF saw it in the Palace game at home, where Gvardiol was taking up wide positions on the left and Grealish drove in centrally leading to a Grealish goal
It could definitely work with Doku too, I’d just like to see Doku get more comfortable in central zones firstly
The main thing is the versatility and selflessness of Gvardiol that makes all this work. He’s even better than I thought 😤🇭🇷
Can you make a video about the Kovacic - Rodri duo? It has been absolutely class the past 3 games
Pep has abandoned the box midfield and going for double pivot and hybrid winger. I wonder what next and
Pep doesn't reveal his tactics
Cityzens we have relatively poor this season and we still doing a double with these monsters. Gave madrid a nightmare and they had to park it to find a win . Next season with some transfers we're gonna be competing again in no time ❤
His first goal was a Messi style goal where he uses the other players to create space and passing
Great video! Would love to see more! You might’ve found your niche :)
I have plenty on my channel 🫡
Thanks
Mancini in the background 🎉
Of course!
We need to sign olise as a Bernardo replacement. If Bernardo leaves of course
if he can get comfortable crossing with his left and he keeps shooting with his right city just need someone like doku or savio to perform in the rw next season and city could have a even more scary attack since after watching a lot of city games naturally due to KDB Foden Haaland teams let the ball go out wide often and if ur getting premuim service into the box from both wings with a LWB and RW thats very dangrous on paper
As they said Gvardiol is the new Gundogan 🤘🤘🤘
🇭🇷🔥
We need one right side gvardiol, hoping we get some breakout gvardiol star in euros
Josip Stanisic from Leverkusen.(Bayern player on loan)
Better than Frimpong defensively, but is good offensively.
4 goals, 6 assists this season.
We’ll watch him on the right, Gvardiol on the left for Croatia at EURO
Gvardiol is special. He's gonna be a better version of cancelo
We buy the most promising cb in the world and pep turns him into a flying lb 😂 classic pep 💙💪
I thought he’d be good for us, didn’t think he’d be this good this quickly
@Nobbins I now wonder if we'll ever play him cb as he's so good on that left.
It’s always good to have that as an option for sure! For example if both Stones and Gvardiol are on the pitch, and Stones does the Stones role, he can became the in possession LCB
Pep didn't turn him into a left back, he was playing for Croatia as a LB at Euro 2021
@@misixx3958 Nah, he played CB most of games
I am pretty sure Gvardiol played as a attacker in Dinamo Zagreb
I think for youth level he did
@@Nobbins yes, Dinamo had excellent school, they lots of players were rotated through various positions, it's not only for exploring which position is the best for player, it's also so that the boys could learn the positioning and specifics of various positions.
We lived in the same neighbourhood, 4 years ago he'd travel to his training in a tram, takes an hour to get the club, he is a really nice and well behaved lad. I'm still amazed how quickly he learns.
bro should be the manager of man u next season
@Nobbins Do U think we should go for a lb seeing his quality???
I think I’ve been convinced we don’t need a LB anymore (assuming Gvardiol can add brilliant crossing to his skillset) so a right sided player is now preferable.
I know who I want 👀
@@Nobbins ok!
So, whom do U prefer to sign on RB position?
Frimpong?
@@Himsagi-Artz
Frimpong is bad defensively.
He’s more a winger or wing back
The best lift back in a while
I might get him on my shirt
Give him time learn to cross
Can you do a video on who Manchester City should sign? Please i’d really like to know 😁
Yes mate will be working on that for the summer
next season pep gonna have 3 of his defenders as midfielders
They are already better than most of the midfielders in terms of passing and holding positions
I think Joško said on interview that at start he was attacker so no wonder he can do this
But his physical shouldn't allow him to be this good at defensive and offensive. Total footballer 💀
I can see him at rb
if this seems fascinating to you all - you guys should see how dani alves used to play under pep
Not really the same
@@Nobbins yeah but like he was more fascinating to watch - skills and all
Common Nobbins Dub
Hope you stayed to the end to see your name 🥰
@@Nobbins Of course
LNOBBINS l your man city content
Thank you JUSTIN!
No Grealish,no Doku no problem
I think he is just playing LWB and is asked to tuck in on defence.
We call this the Ben White.
Nah quite different tbf
Ben White is great!
Gvardiol is generational!
He is like TAA but he can actually defend
Imagine Gvardiol with Trent’s crossing 👀
Ake was subbed off not akanji
That’s what I said matey
@@Nobbins my bad
no wonder pep was so desperate to buy him .. he knew what he wanted
loved when people said he was a flop buy for 100M🤣 They're eating their own words right now lmao ,love from a RM fan
Big up
gvardiol eafc25 card be like CB LB LWB LW ST
This is crazy ....he is CB wtf?
Josko Gvardiol can be man citys sergio ramos. But city dont have a good set piece coach, and the corner takers are not great.
Garvidiol is not gud defensively but offensively
Some people were saying he's overrated not worth the price 🥱🥱
Fools!
@@Nobbins absolutely
