I've had trouble taking transgenders seriously for quite some time. Back in the day there was not much information about the phenomenon like there is today, and it was just a very strange thing to see a man going through life as a woman (which is how it was generally seen back then). Then the internet came and after a good while, more and more information started to become available to the general public. But it was all very new to me, and I still found it hard to swallow.
It all change when we got a new collegue. A bit of a strange guy, your typical odd one out, a bit insecure, held back, a little weird really... Then after some time came the message that she identified as a woman and she started dressing and acting like it. And after a while came the realization that all the 'weirdness' (for lack of a better word) and insecurity had vanished. That she had not only 'turned into' (as I saw it) a woman, but that she was now a more confident and natural acting person, fun to be with and much more open. The fact that she could be herself now, obviously had a huge, very positive impact on her. There was no way that you could not see how she felt complete now. And that was so beautiful to see. That's when I finally really understood.
This is so beautiful! Thank you for being honest, I've felt the similar way in some ways too to be completely honest. You know, that's just "how it was" and without personal experience with it at least back then, that's an easy thought to understand. Quite simply, it's fair ignorance.
In these days tho, with some much information and (some) representation and positive media coverage normalizing it at least to some degree, I find no reason not to support or not help or accept these people as they are. We're the most wonderful when we can be ourselves, so this is just great. There is nothing to not accept with this at all.
The transgender people had people like them in the past but those people were called drag queens. The world had drag queen since 1870.

@@ryanlesner4716 Actually, the idea of drag queens came from panto dames, which have been around since 1806. Transgender people have been around much longer then them, the only difference being panto dames/drag queens do it for entertainment and choose to do it, whereas for trans people, its their life and not a choice.

Yeah, although I don't find her bullying and harshness towards her daughter okay at all, I at least wanna give her credit for actually listening and seemingly genuinly trying to understand. A lot of people are completely uncapable of doing that, so that's at least something very positive.

The words and actions of loved ones make all the world to a person.
I could never imagine being in these people's shoes, but I respect them for being true to themselves over living a lie..
I also have the same story. I have a beautiful transgender child who I'm very proud of! How can you not love your child. They need all the support especially from the parents. Yall are awesome God bless you and your family!
One of the biggest issues for the transgender women are their voices
Everything else are relatively easy to change, but not the vocal cords
But I heard there's a surgery for voice altering too
There's even a surgery to soften your facial features to be more feminine(wonders of the modern medicine)
I think Lily is extremely brave
It takes guts to do what she does
Most people in her situation would hide or surpress it for the rest of their lives
There are also some exercises they can do to make their pitch higher.
I don't know if adam's apple shaving, or hormones, help.
And the facial surgery is called Facial feminization. It does indeed make the features more feminine, but without changing the appearance to a point where you can't recognize the person.
I'm pretty sure Lily's had that. Also, after facial fem, they seem to cut down on the makeup because they don't need to use makeup to feminize their face. That's also visible on Lily, while Ariana still uses makeup.
I hope Lily and Ariana kept in touch.
As a child I grew up being told these people were bad and wouldn't be accepted into heaven etc. Now I couldn't imagine being against rights for LGBTQA. I love and accept these people with all of my heart and I support everything the community stands for.

Some advice for you! if you go to college or a university later on in life then you can tell anyone you'd like, usually in a higher up education the students are a lot more accepting and understanding as you are mingled in with a bunch of people that are essentially young adults, no one really bullies you there because they're busy doing their studies :))

As long as the child is at the right age to make their own informative decision WITHOUT influence or grooming from others I’m fine with a kid/teen wanting to be transgender.

Mom, stop talking with upticks, it means you are asking for approval or asking “do you know what I mean”. Speak with definite meaning without upticks and you’ll sound more mature and confident.
This is not right. It's good that her mother doesn't hate him for being trans since that is not at all his fault but it's also equally wrong to encourage his mental illness instead of helping him recover from it.

I don’t think it is ok to shame this other parent....she is also a victim of these circumstances. Lots of elements missing here. Shaming her won’t help this situation in such a public setting. It irks many of us just to watched her being shamed. I think this was an inappropriate way to deal with this mother’s frustrations. To get her to accept her son’s..now daughter’s transition is not to shame her into to it. Perhaps some Private counseling....she is transitioning too. There needs to be some honestly without shaming all the way around, and I agree it’s important to see she can do things differently, and it’s important for her child to be supported by others, absolutely....but this isn’t the way Dr. Phil. Wow... seeing this played out to a national audience. Something just wrong about this approach. This mom was shamed on a national level...putting her in danger and shamed in front of her teen. In a perfect world, everyone would be like the “perfect mom and daughter” on that stage...that was a beautiful thing, but not all all aren’t perfect. All I saw here was everyone driving that fact home as they publicly stoned they Arianna’s mom. That’s why they are there...to get help. Help them grow together...don’t shame them apart. Very inappropriate to do this in a public setting.

Also, she needs the tough love, so to speak. The biggest issue I have is the absence of the father. He influences how his wife accepts Ariana, so his absence bothers me.
