    Great video, it looks like Los Angeles is taking more and more steps to becoming a dense urban city. DTLA in particular is growing up rapidly and looks very nice. You spent your Fourth in the best way possible! :D

    • @AmericanRoads
      @AmericanRoads  8 років тому

      Too dense for sure. And those downtown LA freeways are becoming a bit too small for the traffic volume it handles daily.

      American Roads doing one helluva good job for a road that's over 60 years old though.
      Plenty of a road through my area, called Route 66, its original pavement barely lasted 1/3-1/2 as long before DOT folks probably started saying "arright... time to rebuild & replace!"

      Los Angeles has been that way since the eighties. Most of those buildings were constructed during that decade.

    One of the routes I wish I got to check out a year ago, this was an excellent ride, and a good use of a holiday for sure, perfect conditions and for the most part good traffic flow. That was a good sighting of Downtown L.A. from the pass, didn't expect that.

      Pretty sure you will be able to get better footage on your second visit here. Next time, you should definitely consider visiting California during one of the major holidays, e.g. Memorial Day, Labor Day, or July 4th.

    Great work on this. I've really come to enjoy your editing style and awesome signage works. The first thing I thought to myself when I saw the filming date of "July 4" was that you weren't going to be stuck in more than a minute of traffic on the Hollywood Freeway, as I was on here as well during the noon hour. About the only time of the year you'll ever be able to film this with barely any congestion to worry about.

    I'm old enough to remember when Sweet Child O' Mine was a brand new video on MuchMusic back in 1987. Nice video American Roads, interesting to see your take on more urban roads. I think that you, like I, tend to focus and specialize mostly in national parks and rural areas. :-D

      I have been familiar with the guitar intro of the song for almost about 15 years, but never actually knew the title and singer of the song until I started editing this video.
      Well, since I live in the area PACKED with so many different urban freeways, I might as well take advantage of it, while waiting for my next national park adventure :)

    Fun fact: You’re already in Los Angeles when you’re in the valley, except for a few pockets.

    Awesome. Small congestion...where do we go now? Appropriate timing! The downtown ride was over quickly though.

    • @AmericanRoads
      @AmericanRoads  8 років тому +1

      Lol, yeah. That was a happy coincidence, completely unplanned at all. Downtown LA skyline, despite its very high population, is surprisingly compact compared to other major cities I have seen (at least in UA-cam). There are several videos (by FreewayBrent and FreewayJim) featuring a drive into downtown San Francisco, and man, San Francisco's skyline looks very expansive from the freeway.

      Thanks, Sir :) Btw, have you ever heard of FreewayBrent and FreewayJim before? They are the veterans of this time-lapsed road video genre. They also greatly influenced me to jump into the same hobby. FreewayBrent has not been too active lately. And FreewayJim, who is based in Atlanta, Georgia, is currently doing video series of his epic summer trip to the northwest. Definitely check them out, you surely will not be disappointed!

    I understand that LA traffic is beyond horrendous, but THAT bad to where you literally have to time out a big holiday to get a fully congestion free ride?!
    Please tell me most portions of LA are NOT fusterclucked between midnight & the darkest hours of the a.m...

    • @chairmanofrussia
      @chairmanofrussia 7 років тому

      I live in an apartment building on a hill right next to the four way interchange at 5:29, I have a balcony view of that part of the freeway where the 110 and 101 cross. You're in luck. Starting at around 11pm or midnight, it's completely congestion free. However, it is 5:30 in the morning, and as I look out the balcony, yeah, it's getting kind of full. But it's still moving pretty quickly. So I'd say from 11pm to about 5 in the morning right before morning commutes, it's free of traffic. After that it starts to clog, and traffic tends to hit by sunrise.

    If the speed limit would be like this I would have no problem obeying it.

    • @AmericanRoads
      @AmericanRoads  8 років тому

      Which speed limit are you talking about? If you are talking about the 55 at downtown LA, in normal days, you would actually have problem *reaching* the speed limit, due heavy traffic lol.
