You can call it FUD all you want but when you own a Chinese stock you don’t own the company. You own a company in the caymans who owns a company who owns a company who owns the Chinese stock supposedly. China is an authoritarian country that at any time can do anything they want how a couple people in the upper CCP feel. Surprised you don’t get this risk. Yea all of a sudden you have a point but as a long term investor who always viewed this risk for over a decade you are simply wrong about the risk. Owning Tesla that has one factory in China compared to NIO is two different things. Yea Tesla can get hurt but not go bankrupt. NIO can lose all value in a day
Also Tesla “WAS” the markets hottest stock. In the same time frame Chinese stocks sold off Tesla has not gone up either. Extremely poor example. Also Tesla is an industry creating company that is transforming an industry and world. How can you compare that excitement too a online seller with many companies already out their such as Amazon, Walmart, etc
@@robb5270 I doubled my money in NIO but got out. I also made big gains in BABA between when I got in in 2019 and sold in 2020 to buy apple and tesla pre split. I guess those Cayman guys at least gave me money.

I spent a few weeks in China some years ago. There was pretty amazing sense of energy while I was there. There were people doing business in hotel lobbies (western entrepreneurs meeting Chinese manufacturers) and I saw some photoes of the the cities taken with a few years between them and the change was so apparent in them. It felt like how I imagined US was during the gold rush: "do you want to sell shovels there".

The only Chinese firm I am invested in is Bank of China (2nd or 3rd largest bank in China). I am thinking about adding ICBC too (largest bank in China). They pay good dividends, are basically undestructible and also protected by the chinese gov.
I keep my fingers off Chinese stocks these days - not because BABA or other companies won't do well, but becauses I do not trust Xinnie Jin Pooh for a dime. My only exposure to BABA and such is through Lyxor's Emerging Markets ETF, which I find a reasonable approach as the ETF also contains companies from for example Taiwan and such.

Usually UA-cam business works with quite a lot of free goodies to hook the customer. Like give away juice samples in your grocery store. Then, presumably, you want more and make purchases.

They should be fungible by a rate of 1 BABA to 8 HK 9988 (Alibaba), but you have to check with your broker. I wouldn't worry about it, depending on how big your position is of your portfolio it can be a good idea to have both NYSE and HK Alibaba, atleast that is my plan when increasing my position above 20% of total portfolio.

I would be careful with where my money, energy and time end up going, and what kind of future my investment contributes to instead of blindly chasing "cheap" stocks
In my portfolio I have a China fund that are actively managed 5% (no big tech like alibaba, tencent etc). Combined with an Emerging markets index fund that has roughly 40% china weight (including all the big tech firms) that makes up 10% of my portfolio. So all in all I have roughly 9% in total of my portfolio dedicated to China, this dip was perfect timing to tweak the stake. I manage my portfolio monthly, with monthly saving and to adjust the portfolio so the % of my funds remain roughly the same. I made a % plan in a document, and just adjust it to my original plan, I never sell, I just input more money in the funds that is lagging behind their %. Thanks as always for the video Sven 👍 I watch it because I love learning about new perspectives.

Honestly, when I read about these regulations, they sound really reasonable to me. In fact, you can find the US and EU imposing the same regulations. But because this is the Chinese government, everything suddenly sounds much scarier.
yes, just life! Only the western media makes it look like crazy! I remember a family member of mine lost his cow farm because he couldn't make the investment for a 10 ton bridge to get there (this was the Netherlands in the 1980) - so nothing different.

I like how Sven is open-minded, we must consider any possibility, but I just don't see that extreme step happening. Sven, I love your channel and I even have your book. But I find the formula a bit confusing. When you value the stocks, the Sum 603.70 is that in US dollars? Because the current Mkt Cap is 530 and 603 does not seem that attractive. I know sometimes you use EU and I am just not sure what currency is being used. I also tweaked your excel a bit by adding shares outstanding to get the stock price. Cheers, buddy!
Hi sven! It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on why undervalued stocks are sometimes trashed. What other then news and sentiment makes this unrasonal behaviour happen and more importantly last for a long time making undervalued investments underperform the market over time, further making timing of buying far more important then it should be. actually if you buy value, your risk is lower when there is blood on the streets - volatility is not risk!

So all in all I have roughly 9% in total of my portfolio dedicated to China, this dip was perfect timing to tweak the stake.
I manage my portfolio monthly, with monthly saving and to adjust the portfolio so the % of my funds remain roughly the same. I made a % plan in a document, and just adjust it to my original plan, I never sell, I just input more money in the funds that is lagging behind their %.

Honestly, when I read about these regulations, they sound really reasonable to me. In fact, you can find the US and EU imposing the same regulations. But because this is the Chinese government, everything suddenly sounds much scarier.
yes, just life! Only the western media makes it look like crazy! I remember a family member of mine lost his cow farm because he couldn't make the investment for a 10 ton bridge to get there (this was the Netherlands in the 1980) - so nothing different.

I agree it is a great value! But I don't think Baba or Tencent will ever be delisted. I like how Sven is open-minded, we must consider any possibility, but I just don't see that extreme step happening. It would be too damaging to China, to world wide hedge funds, to many etfs, and to US pension funds. I think the ripple effect would be a tsunami. I will just hold baba. But anyway Goodluck all.

Sven, I love your channel and I even have your book. But I find the formula a bit confusing. When you value the stocks, the Sum 603.70 is that in US dollars? Because the current Mkt Cap is 530 and 603 does not seem that attractive. I know sometimes you use EU and I am just not sure what currency is being used.
I also tweaked your excel a bit by adding shares outstanding to get the stock price. Cheers, buddy!

Hi sven! It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on why undervalued stocks are sometimes trashed. What other then news and sentiment makes this unrasonal behaviour happen and more importantly last for a long time making undervalued investments underperform the market over time, further making timing of buying far more important then it should be.

Thanks for this video, Sven. I've observed the emotions you describe in myself throughout my previous investments. Investing during bad sentiment usually leads to far superior results, even though it feels terrible at times initiating that buy order. A high degree of conviction is the only thing that helps that feeling in my opinion. Thanks for the work you're doing.
