There's no doubt that Magnus will go down in Chess History as one of the greatest to ever play the game, but this game just goes to show that nobody is perfect. He is very good at chess and you are not. You are very good at something else and he is not. The only difference here is the cameras and the fame, nothing more, nothing less. It's cool to hold titles and be recognized by people but trust me, that's not the only point.
What I like about the end is that Magnus doesn't even look back at his queen to see he's been forked on the final move. He already knows. I wouldn't have known until I looked back. It's like he has the board layout in his mind.
They all do exactly that - having the entire board layout in their mind, together with all the pieces right where they are, and constantly calculating a dozen moves in advance. Simply thinking all that, my own mind boggles.
Magnus's decision making could be improved. He had the draw with perpetual check and with a pawn and queen each and his opponents on the 7th rank, did he actually think he could still win? Should have respected his opponent more. He should have just kept checking and offered a draw.
I just started learning chess 3days ago. Seeing this makes me intimidated. It was the best chess match I had ever seen. I wish i thought like that when playing chess😂😂
As you saw, the king could move towards the pawn, not only limiting the queens movement around the pawn as a defense for the queen, but also that the king could get opportunities for taking the pawn. As he also showed you, queen to G1 could block the king's movement and save the pawn.
Somebody please explain . At last magnus got check and he can eliminate the white Queen with his queen and his queen will be eliminated by black king so it's a good trade but why magnus loss
Watched this exciting video again. Some new thoughts. Nodirbek preyed on the fact that Carlsen didn't wanna draw. Thats totally understandable from both of their respective perspectives. Carlsen at that point probably didn't know how good Nodirbek really was. He didn't wanna let some rookie player walk away with a draw versus Carlsen. So his decision is understandable. His play towards the end in unsound, as per Sagar. But to be honest, queen endings are the hardest of all beings, there are so many random checks from random squares for both sides, with the perpetual check rule, its hard to make the best moves in minimum time. Carlsen is ofcourse considered the best player of end games, and he probably is, but sometimes you make mistakes, especially in situations where you are pushing too hard. To convert a drawn game into a win.
What a nice game! In the middle of the game I kinda got the feeling that the young guy (which I haven't gotten his name yet clearly) Is going to win. Well played
I’m just a beginner. So I’m sure there is an easy answer to this question that I am just not seeing. After the queen trade Black would move pawn on b4 to b3, then White would moved h pawn to queen. Black pawn to b2, eventually becoming a queen. Why did Magnus resign?
Magnus was off that day. That endgame was not typical Magnus. Great game and classy way to take a loss, not to mention, great way to take a "W" against the world champ and not jump up and down, kicking, screaming, spraying beer and yelling about quitting chess- like I would.
At 9 minutes and 32 seconds in the video, Magus should move his knight to g5 because the 16 year old prodigy can't take the knight with his bishop because then, that would put him in check, and once again, magnus would be able to take his queen.
1:06 Bc5 is actually one of possible lines to play for black, the idea is Nxe5 Nxe5 d4 Bb4 dxe5 Nxe4 and white has two moves as far as I remember Qd4 and Qf3. Interesting line to play against this annoying e4 english.
