I have been having this problem and it was terrifying. Worried I got brain damage. I thought similarly that was taking too much air. I was always taught that the more air the better, but this is clearly an oversimplification.
I've never heard of anybody blacking out while playing. I heard a legend that somebody died while playing...I wonder if it's true. Didn't find anything on the internet. But thanks for the tips. Better not to find out the hard way.
It definitely happens. I've done it trying to play a high F way too loud, and I had a teacher that once had it happen playing picc (which needs way less air).
