As per the last census report taken in year 2011 there are 2.45 lakh Afghanis in Delhi and Kolkatta . You may even see a entire street named after Afghans in old delhi . The kabuliwallas command a great respect and had blend well with local populace . Indians love Afghani food and Kabuli Pulav and Afghani rotis are very famous .
Have seen Pathans in South of india during 70's with their eye catching turbans and baloon type salwars ,gentlman with fair skin, strong build and they carry a wooden wand kind of thing in hand. To me as kid they r scarry ,also i was told by elders, if i am naughty he will catch hold of me. 😊 they r mostly money lenders in olden times. Have seen Pattani character depicted in old BW movies of 60's too! Then all of a sadden they disappeared from public places, do not know why!? Have seen alot of Afgan pathans in NewDelhi, ladies who came as refugees during recent times ,r having good business in preparing afgan food varities. They r in one particular area in ND!

That was also made in to a movie of the same name. Afghans have always stayed on in India. Recall the names of all Bollywood Khans.
