CELLULAR ENTITIES is a project that derives from a particular vision of the natural world, where the application of bilateral symmetry to individual cellular elements urges the face recognition system present in the human brain to stablish correspondences with the macroscopic forms found in complex organisms.
The bioartist inserts new genes into animal cells to drive the expression of recombinant color through fluorescent proteins. Then creates an in vitro microscopic space for being explored using live-cell imaging. The resulting photomicrographs are used to feed a self-made digital art network that enables the translation of the static analog forms and recombinant hues present in the images, into moving digital shapes and colors, respectively. Finally, the DJ/electronic music producer Giank Cerdas created specific music for each piece.
This proposal is an invitation to the viewer to take a breath, contemplate and freely interpret each work, in a world of constant overconsumption and overstimulation of the senses. This way, the contemplative system becomes the antithesis of the disposable profiteering system, opening a window for abstraction and re-connection with the natural world. Each audiovisual piece represents a portal for different entities and characters from the unconsciousness to manifest their personalities and moods to the observer.
