I'm a revert as well and love watching shaykh Uthman ibn farooq. Learn so much from him. What advice would he give to me to go about learning Arabic? Please, I wish I lived around San Diego to benefit from this shaykh and others around him. I find I don't have much support here in Canada. Took my shahada at the mosque but no one has kept up with me or offered me to teach me like I've seen the shaykh do with new muslims on the videos.
Assalaamu aliekum brother. The question is: how much Arabic do you want to learn? So if your intention is to be a serious student of knowledge, unless you are a genius polyglot, you'll have to go abroad to an Arabic country eventually. But even if you're that serious, you can start with the following things: 1) learn the Arabic alphabet, meaning all the letters in all their positions (alone, beginning of the word, middle of the word, and end of the word) 2) start reading in Arabic, even if you don't understand, just to master the letters; this will also help you identify high frequency words; also learn the qamariyya and shamsiyya letters 3) learn basic grammar- identifying nouns, verbs and prepositions; learn the pronouns; learning the verb tenses; learning the four cases and their symbols; learn the common verb forms; learn the irregular verbs; learn common noun forms including regular and irregular plural 4) start to study Quran at the same time; but don't fall into the trap of doing that by yourself- you must do it with a teacher; it's much harder to unlearn something incorrect than to learn it correctly May Allah guide you and grant you knowledge
First step is to learn to read Arabic. Then you can start to learn to speak it. Inorder to learn to read there many thousands of courses online on UA-cam. Stick to one and you'll learn to read Arabic within a couple of weeks. Once you've done that get back go me and I have got resources which I can give you to help you learn to speak Arabic. But first you need to learn to read it!
Brother congratulations for your being in the true religion. I suggest you to contact famous Arabic teacher Brother Asif Mehrali. He is also from canada. A large number of people including me benefited from his online Arabic classes. You need not to move to Arabic countries for learning Arabic as some one has suggested in reply. But you need a teacher and brother asif is best. He will guide you appropriately. No a difficult task at all inshallah. Allah make it easy for you and for all of us
Shaykhna, please make a video about your Arabic learning journey (from the very beginning to present). Like which books did you start with, how did you progress, how did you revise/review, how did you learn new vocabularies, etc. etc. Please give us a solid syllabus! 🙏
