In a technical standpoint, Anan is actually harder to master in the end over Unsu. It's just that Unsu is harder to start and learn over Anan. I love both of em, but they need to add some kata's to Shotokan's list as nowadays Unsu, Gankaku, Gojushiho and whatnot are swallowed by the high leveled Ryuei-ryu katas. Perhaps make a tournament ready Kashu, Suishu, Hoshu and Roshu from Asai-Ryu? JKS knows those Katas, Moto is from JKS too XD
But eitherway, Ryo's forte is Anan to begin with, and I think Moto is better with Gankaku and Sansai.

I was thinking the same - Moto's Sansai is top notch. Wonder why he didn't use that one in the final. He's had much success with it.

I agree with you about Moto’s gankaku and sansai been better to beat kyuna. A flawless gankaku and a very dinamic sansai in a final are very powerful. I also agree that shotokan athletes need to add some new katas (even tough it’s way harder to do that in comparison with shito/goju). But I disagree with you about Anan been harder to master than Unsu. For me, the stances, the upper body movements, the kicks, the turns and the jump are way harder in unsu than in anan. I also believe that the possibilities to have a foul are much higher in unsu than in anan. But I respect your opinion. In this match, I believe that moto deserved to win, even with Unsu. Better luck next time for him

@@eduardokinji I think Anan and Unsu is an apples to orange comparison. Anan focuses on power and control and Unsu focuses on speed and athleticism. Both katas are difficult to master but for different reasons. I'm a Goju stylist so it would be harder for me to master a kata like Unsu - perhaps it would be the same level of difficulty as mastering a kata like Chatanyara Kusanku. I think if Moto had done Sansai, the scores would be different as Sansai poses more difficulty than Anan (personal opinion of course).

@@eduardokinji agreed! Shotokan Katas are easy to get penalised because of the precise movements! Especially for Katas like Gankaku and Unsu. I too feel Anan is easier in comparison to Unsu. But when practiced equally. With our Junior National Team, there's been more substantial growth in Unsu than Anan in the past 4 years of training the same athlete.
Don't get me wrong, I actually think Unsu is a higher level kata. Since to me it's taxing if you don't have ROM abd agility. But from what I've tried with the current gen of athletes, it's different. So I'm giving my opinions based on experience and from how they developed 🤣🤣🤣

@Talim Palomino i can also agree with you in this. When the kids and junior teams progress with Unsu more than Anan. I'm better with Anan than Unsu despite being Shotokan. So it goes both ways. From the previous comment. I explained that it's an opinion based on the athletes being trained in the past 4 years. But truthfully, I still like Unsu better than Anan (I'm not fond of Anan and Anan Dai 🤣 I'm more of a Heiku or Ohan person)
And Yes! Definitely not one of Kiyuna's best performances, he's performed way better than this many times before. To me, it's a 50-50. If there's something that would probably help Moto in his performance putting timing and fluidity aside. Is he needs to add a lil more weight. If that makes any sense? But that's just my opinion.
I'd one day want to see Kazumasa as champion 🤣 Although, I like his brother Ryuuji a lil more lol

I think that the only person who could with with Kiyuna would be Milon :P.
Today's Shotokan is to soft. They made it soft in favor of making it "beautifully looking".
Btw Chikashida does quite a strong Shotokan as one of the only ones

Big stances is also a disadvantage. The biomechanics in small and more natural stances allows the core to transfer more power in the limbs and legs. Big deep stances is unnatural and very taxing to the body and waste more energy between movements, also the range of movement from the hips become more limited.
There is a reason why is more common to see world champions in others styles of karate than in Shotokan and the stances is the center of that same reason.

@@thiagoasayama7686 that's the point.... shotokan must change its stances to more natural, as Funakoshi Gichin taught in his books. Nakayama's relectures turned shotokan stances deeper than Funakoshi taught originally in early japanese karate.

@@nipaipo36100 Mr Nipaipo36100 I see your comments everywhere in Karate videos ahah, and we have talked about this before when Moto performed Unsu against Diaz and you said that Diaz should have higher technique grades. I also know you are a referee. I think Moto performed better because he has more Kime and Yaiki than Kyuna, his techniques are more solid than Kyuna, and overhall his Kata feels more alive, dynamic and stronger than Kyuna. Don-t get me wrong, I like Kyuna too. In fact, one of my best friends is spending a lot of time training with him in Okinawa and she has a close relationship with Kyuna, but still I enjoy watching Moto more than Kyuna..

Ryo carries too much tension especially in transitions. Also the feet could be way, way better. Too much movement in the feet, the feet are always planted. Karate may be the art of the empty hand but the power comes from the legs and hips. He needs to soften the style to master the kata. Too many pauses, screaming, looks.
Not a huge fan of Moto's execution of Unsu here. I don't know him well but I watched another one from 2019 and it was better. I prefer Yahara's and Hiroyoshi Okazaki's.
Speaking of Annan, it's a beautiful kata but it has bio-mechanical flaws and this is just from me watching it a few times. I almost wish someone modernized it and removed the excessive movements so that it utilizes more karate fundamentals. There's too much arm motion (leading to a complete mess in slo-mo even for someone like Ryo) and ultimately it's not in line with the clean flow of Japanese martial arts.
As Thierry Henry said "Great players simplify things, bad players complicate things." This kata could be simplified to an absolute gem.
