I Tennessee on vacation, my daughter left her car doors open, and bears got inside. Luckily, they left, and no one was harmed. Her car was not damaged, either.
Those guys who went to the bear''s den were literally playing with their lives when they went to a bear''s den where there were cubs, luckily the situation was resolved, but the situation could have ended differently if the mother had returned to the den, which would have most likely attacked the intruders and the consequences would probably have been fatal!. I don''t know what the hell was going on in that guy''s head, apparently some kind of allure of danger drove the guys to such a crazy act in my opinion!.

Are hand guns not available in Tennessee ? I`m English and live in England where hand guns are hard to come by - but so are bears occupying our cars. I`d never, given a choice, open the car door to a bear whilst not being armed.
There are no wild, native bears in the UK. Also you have more hand guns than bears even in zoos lol

a hand gun on such close distance ? no way, living in remote Canada, had them on the yard, i just ignored them what was fine with them, one night i had one sleeping against my front door, nearly tripped over him, last thing you expect is a bear while you attempt to go out, i took a few lids, opened the door (slowly) again and suddenly started banging and shouting, boy, did he take off fast and in a tree he went, the bewildert look in the flashlight made me laugh, yes bears spook easy, one old sow bear slept often on the driveway, i passed her while i carried pails of milk to the calves, after a while she did not bother anymmore to get out of my way, in the winter i had 3 moose stealing hay out of my haystack, every morning, when i came to pitch some for the calves, they gave me a quick look and carried on eating again, while i pitched hay right beside them, my sheltie dog did chase bears at times when i was working in the bush, only then you get beware how close they often are, sure fun to watch how such a big beast run like crazy for such a small dog, yes, i will not hesitate to open the car door, keeping the way of escape free, any animal can "smell" your mood/fear, eye contact, so i can see when the mood may change,

that was in the 80s 90s, to be fair, if i would have seen this youtube videos first i would have been more scared, it is sure getting used too, but then, i chose to live there, its /was there home at the first place
