I would go out and read some books/watch these videos and try everything at low heights. I was in the same place you seem to be and the best way I learned was go and see which ones seem the best for your taste. Some friction knots are easier to descend on than others and some slip on certain ropes. I'm not an old experienced climber but I've found these videos to be very helpful, especially when a certain knot doesn't function correctly.
Great hitch! Iv Used standard prusik swabisch and finally settled for this hitch. I got spot on control with this one. I use a pulley with it. Standard prusik just lock up too much on wet days. This releases good but still locks on demand 👍
How about the fusion point when you fix the Distel hitch on a double rope?(13mm polyester double braid) If I rappelling on it , do the heat-friction will cut the rope?
Is there a particular cord for prusik knots that you have found to work best on various types of climbing lines >10mm? Maybe 8mm prusik cord or so? Specifically I have 11.4mm Predator by Samson, and I am looking for the best prusik line to ascend/descend on it. Looking at Bluewater Ropes 8mm VT prusiks on Amazon, but I don't have the availability to test a bunch of prusik cords. Thank you very much!
I like this hitch. I will be comparing it to the swabashe to see witch once I like best. I do not fully understand why some ropes work well for hitch cord and others don't. I can say that i do not like still cords, They slip even with 5 or 6 wraps on a distel instead of 4 and I don't see what the up side is? heat resistance? I don't think heat resistance is really important, just get a reliable soft cord and replace it monthly.
It's either the way the knot is tied in the video or the way I learn to tie knots. The book I learnt how to tie the distel hitch is a better knot then the way this video taught me how to tie it. I forget this knot all the time and when I tie it this way in the video it only captures my progress ascending sometimes.

Such a good one for assent and lanyard. Finally I’ve managed to build this set up. Thank you.
how long is that cord from eye to eye?
I like this hitch best with a rope wrench and hitch pulley
