    I used a hand crank grinder for years. Wanted to start making espresso so needed a better grinder. Got this grinder it was not cheap but had good reviews. I liked the looks. Have had it for 9 months forgot about the price. This is a great low RPM conical burr grinder. The burrs are large high end quality fine grind is great for espresso shots
    Also use it for pots of drip over. Fill the cup to little over half with beans added to hopper it's a full load. Like medium roast coffee. Drip over less fine grind also makes a good pot of coffee. I get the feeling made a good choice. May never need another grinder this is built to last many years. Breakdown to clean is easy. A strong quality build.

    Hello There..
    I just now bought the Niche Zero Grinder.I chose, the white one .as it contrast my Crimson blue Breville Pro. I have been watching your web site for some time now .
    Your honest and detailed revue is a blessing in the sky.I noticed this morning the British £ dropped and I took advantage on that.However it isn't cheap ,because everything is pretty well geared to the US $.
    It will be chipped 7 days from now.When the Niche will arrive,I'll let you know what the total cost will be.The Breville Pro .I also purchased on your advice being the Touch was quit a bit more.Although it took me a while to dial in a good espresso after trying various burr settings .Right now the inner burr is set at 3..The results are very good indeed.Furthermore .Before I purchases the Breville Pro.I wanted the Dual Boiler.At the time it was a bit hard on my finances.So at any rate , if I would get the Dual boiler.I already will have an excellent grinder! Greetings: HR,

      I want to order one, but 1) The Go Fund site states “Crowdfunding is not shopping. Your donation is a way to support a project but does not guarantee that you will receive a perk.” 2) There is no contact information. It seems unreasonable to spend over $600 for a device I might not get, and have no way to contact the company if anything goes wrong. Please respond!

      @@artlm2002 I have one and the creator is exceptionally responsive through the crowd funding site itself. Also, units are now in production so if you buy one, you will get one. It's just a necessary statement given the site is not a formal retailer and when the product is still in development. I suppose at some point Niche will shift to a more formal site elsewhere. Hope this helps.

      Damn, now that I see the unnecessary of the light, it annoys me, too.
      Seriously, after using it daily several times for two years, I cannot name ANY negative point that might need improvement except a bit of popcorning sometimes towards the end which prolonged the grinding by a few seconds.

    I have an SGP and a Ceado E5P. I bought the Ceado a few months ago to take the espresso from my La Pavoni to another level. I only have extensive experience with these 2 grinders. I also have an old La Pavoni Jolly grinder that needs new burrs. So I don't really use that one and can't comment on it's performance quality. Regardless, after a lot of informal testing, I personally see very little difference between the SPG and the Ceado. I may have just gotten lucky with my SPG because there seems to be very little lateral or vertical play (actually none) with the inner burr. Some SPGs, as reported and seen in other videos, have a lot of play. So, in my experience the Breville SPG can punch way above it's weight. I don't regret buying the Ceado, but it doesn't merit the extra cost over the SGP based on my taste tests. In build quality, of course,it is way superior to the SPG. Also, the SPG only retains 2 grams of grinds in the impeller chamber and the Ceado about 1 gram. I have custom 3d printed hoppers for both of these grinders and use them as single dosers. I also printed weights to help press the coffee beans down while grinding. While both grinders have some retention, they are consistent in what comes out. What I put in the hopper is what comes out. The Niche Zero does seem very attractive based on extremely low retention with the promise of very little transfer of old grinds. I would love to see the results of an actual blind taste test between the SPG and the Niche.

    It hurt-- a lot-- to spend nearly $700 US (after shipping) for a grinder! Previously every grinder and brewer I owned was under $100. I quickly forgot the pain. The Niche Zero is amazing and is one of the few joys in my life about which I have zero regrets (pun intended).
    If I have any complaint, the "coarse" grind setting isn't even remotely "coarse" and this grinder is adequate at best for filter coffee. Every morning I grind 41g of beans to make 0.75L of coffee and the grind I settled on is way past the upper marked limits. I added my own marks at the location of the lid hinges and I usually end up halfway between the left hinge and the 0 mark of the next rotation. Even when I make a single Aeropress cup with a recipe that recommends a "fine" grind, I got the best results around 48, nearly the limit.
    Recently I finally caved and ordered an entry-level espresso machine (Breville Duo Temp Pro.) Can't wait for it to arrive and try it out with the Niche (although I was a bit peeved to learn in the meantime that the Breville's 54mm portafilter is too small for the Niche's 58mm cup.)

    I'm looking to replace my Rocket grinder with the Niche Zero. The Rocket is all over the place when it comes to consistency in weight and is very clumpy. Trying to 'dial in' a shot with this more expensive grinder is a nightmare. I hope the Niche solves my problems. The channeling and streaking I'm currently dealing with in my naked portafilter is unbelievable.

  • @Hammi4Real
    @Hammi4Real 3 роки тому

    I wish I had the Niche Zero. Unfortunately for me I deemed it nutty to splurge on a prosumer level espresso machine for that reason alone. What mattered the most at the time was the convenience while still retaining the freedom to create and not least - value for my money. Breville (Sage) happened to have quite the irresistible combo, but the grinder is... well, it's not impossible as I may get lucky with the settings but it generally clumps up the grounds. Also it actually hogs a fair amount of them, so basically they're trapped somewhere in the grinder going stale until I grind some more. Then they end up in my cup by the time the next batch is grinding, and the circle continues until I decide to clean it the following week. Then when done, it eats up the grounds again etc.

      I was actually really interested in the smart grinder pro and if they'd offered it in a bundle (with my espresso machine purchase) I would have went for it anyway but I wasn't throwing over $200 after taxes to the SGP when I could throw that at the Niche and have my end game grinder. Dealing with the grind retention, having to use the hopper and it really not doing very well with consistency as a single doser and the smaller range and less precise dialing in along with a somewhat serious clumping issue... Super happy with my choice. I have yet to WDT a single time and I have had no visible channeling Or disrupted pucks. They've all looked perfect once I got it dialed in which only took me 3 adjustments after starting at 18 and ending at 22. By the way this is my 1st set up I've ever owned

    Did you compare this to the Sette 270 wi? I am between these two, leaning towards the Sette 270 wi. My rationale: if I am not going to change my beans and I drink enough that whatever is in the hopper will be done within 3 days, AND the need to dial-in every time I change beans anyways means I will likely not be switching frequently between beans, then don't see a reason to get a single-dose grinder. Especially since the 270 wi will weigh out the dose straight into the portafilter, reducing redundant movements (eliminating the need to weigh beans -> put into a grinder -> put dosing cup onto portafilter, etc). What are your thoughts on my rationale? I honestly cannot decide and would like your opinion (or the opinion of any of your knowledgeable viewers). Thanks so much.

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  4 роки тому +2

      I would probably still go with the Niche for the following reasons:
      1) On the Sette 270wi you're paying for a lot of tech, and less money is going towards the actually grinding components.
      2) The Sette is a VERY loud grinder (this is a non-issue for some people!)
      3) I had some major static issues with the Sette I used, most likely caused by the very fast spinning burrs
      In the end, both very good grinders for the money, but those are my 2 cents! :)

    Interesting to hear that it uses the same burrs as the Mazzer Kony. Replacing those burrs won't be cheap. They come in at around US$170 here in NZ. I've got a very old Macap MX which I'm despairing of. Replaced the burrs a few months ago and already they taste like they are wearing out. So I'd be interested in hearing how well this grinder maintains the same level of flavour after a good 6 months of use. I imagine (hope) that its burrs last longer due to the lower grinding speed.

And I was curious if you had any thoughts on the Niche vs the Eureka Mignon Specialita. It CAN grind fine enough for Turkish, but was not designed to do so. Grinding that fine repeatedly may cause undue stress to the burrs and motor. It was designed to run from Espresso to French Press with a little wiggle room on either end of the range.

    Is this sponsored content? All the reviews on youtube about the Niche
    feel like commercials. So far it seems like the only USP the Niche has
    is its zero retention. Its neither the quietest, nor the cheapest,
    fastest, prettiest, most comfortable or with the most homogeneity in
    grind.
    But its really weird that you say it grinds like 1200$ grinder and then compare this 500$+ grinder to a 200$ grinder. Oddly enough a lot of reviewers of this grinder on youtube state that the conical burrs make the espresso taste fruitier than flat burrs. I find that to be a bold statement, reminding me of some audiophiles that claim they can hear the difference between high-end hifi audio cables.

      I think that James Hoffman's review really hit the nail on the head, like you said, it's not as good as a $3000 grinder, but it also seems to literally do no wrong. As he said "it charmed him". Its nice to use, quiet, has a different look (personally I do think it's the best looking), grinds very well, has zero retention... and at the price point, it beats everything even close to it.... so that may be why every review ends up being glowingly positive

    One of the weirdest applications of words that seems ubiquitous over the past several years is "workflow" in relation to people making coffee in their homes. I know Hoffman also says it a lot. People going to work have a workflow, maybe even a company app to help manage it. People making coffee at home are making coffee at home just with some steps. That ain't a "workflow."
