I think the parts for one of these is going to have to be what I ask Santa for! I used to have a Roland CM-32L, which was a version of the MT-32 without a screen and intended for computer applications. Not sure where it went, so one of these Pi based units will be a great alternative!

I'd forgotton about the CM-32L, it's an interesting uit, pity it went away it'd be a great thing to show off!

Absolutely love this! I've been using an old synthesizer with midi inputs connected to my ST's / Falcon for midi out. Two problems - 1 it's really big for just audio output and 2 - limited sound output. This looks like an upcoming project here too!

Look Mum! I'm on the Internet, and he totally butchered my name 😅
It's a nice video, I enjoyed watching someone else put one together for a change. In the one I did, people could have a drinking game for every time I said the word "standoff" 😀

Im confused on getting projects like this on PCB way. Are the electrical components like resistors and such included when you order everything or just raw PCB? What about the display? I really want to build one because im enjoylearning with my solderong adventures but if im going to have to jump through hoops to order multiple things from multiple places i might as well buy a preassembled one 😂

unfortunately as you say its just the boards, though i think PCB WAY CAN populate some surface mount stuff, though this is through hole. if you persue soldering as a hobby you pretty soon accumulate boxes of resistors and caps etc. but i had to order in the display and the audio board as i don't 'stock' them.
