  • The British Heart Foundation Off Road version of the London to Brighton ride: Saturday 23 September 2023
Starting at Walton on Thames (Apps Court Farm) and finishing on Brighton sea front.
Having done both the road and off road London to Brighton rides now, I can confirm, at least in my opinion, that the off road is the harder of the two. Took me just under 8 hours to do the 60 miles. Of course you are moving slower, there are a few hills and the hardest one at the end is extremely difficult to ascend, mostly due to the surface (and other cyclists). I did not try.
Some of the downhills felt quite dangerous and there was no end of cyclists behind you trying to squeeze through on a narrow path. Certainly affects you own line.
Marshalls were all great and friendly and there were enough breaks stops at good intervals.
Coach back to Walton-on-Thames was quicker than the road one that takes you back to Clapham Common, so that was good. Still had to wait over an hour for my bike to arrive.
On the whole a great day though and I will most likely do it again!

What a great day that was 😎. You probably didn't really notice but to me they were the shiniest cows I've ever seen. Thanks for making the video 👍

Solid effort mate, I did it back in 2012 when it was 75 miles. That last climb is savage!

Are you a professional? How many years have you been doing rides like this? :)

Thanks very much, it was the first off road one I have done. Done many road based rides. It was great fun but certainly harder than what I was used to.
