The sad thing about this is Amanda represents the type of wonderful, enthusiastic and passionate owner/custodian that rarely exists now. Principally because of the Collectability and values. I hope she enjoys the car for many more years!

I own a 69 Alfa duetto spider fairly original. I drive it a lot and from time to time someone will say, you should keep it parked! Granted it’s not on the same value as a Ferrari but still. It always bugs me that comment.
Now THAT is a deserving owner. She really gets it better than most of us. I hope she continues to enjoy it for many many years to come.

You will never meet more down to earth people than Amanda and Phips (misspelled in the article). I got emotional watching her get emotional, because she really is just so incredibly passionate about their cars. The pleasure they get from the cars as a couple is immeasurable. Wonderful caretakers.

I had the pleasure of meeting both Amanda and Phips when they visited Italy with the 166 for Ferrari's 50th anniversary. We started talking at the Braglia stadium celebration in Modena and I could help them a bit getting some help from Ferrari. I remember they came out to our place for dinner and Phips drove me around the hills.
Please if you are in contact with them give them my regards. I believe they remember me, I was an engineer at Ferrari GES on my way out... Maurizio Ferrari (not related)

There must be an international law that protects this type of cars. This is not just an old car, this is a moving artifact. These cars must be exempted from combustion-engined car phaseout if the time has come

Not really ICE cars will certainly exist for atleast 100 yrs more but everything is probably hybrid.
Btw a new corvette was launched just yesterday 1000hp naturally aspirated v8 engine lol not a hybrid

@wilcisco1159........I very much doubt that combustion-engined cars will be phased out anytime soon. In fact, I predict that EV's will disappear long before that!
You need not to worry. There are already cars still on the road that don't meet emission and safety standards and no way that is going to change. Synthetic fuels are being developed right now so classic cars can still be driven so even if we run out of oil, these cars can still be used.

Early Ferraris and Porsches, being from the same era, are the vehicles that started what amounted to being the two most influential brands in automotive history. I believe there is a bit of these cars in every car that followed. To see an early Ferrari still on the road and under private ownership is a wonderful surprise.

What a beautiful Ferrari and a piece of history. Her comment about not listening to the radio reminds me of a visit to the Ferrari factory in the summer of 1981. I was given a tour of the factory, what an incredible memory. At the end of the tour we were taken to a large warehouse that was full of new Ferrari's waiting to be delivered. A woman asked our tour guide why there were no radios in the cars. The guide said, but madam the engine is the music. And truly it is with a Ferrari.

I owned a Ferrari 365GTB/4 in the late '90s and have had the opportunity to drive most newer Ferraris since including the Enzo. When I drove the SF90 three years ago I was shocked to find no big red Start/Stop button on the console. In its place was an almost invisible touch button built into the bottom of the steering wheel. By removing the sense of occasion on start up Ferrari has forgotten who they are and lost the plot!
Brilliant. I love that you found this by chance whilst in NZ doing something else, and knew you needed to feature it (and her; she's a true enthusiast). It's a fantastic story of the passion that makes all this stuff matter.

The car was rebodied by Stabilimenti Farina. Probably after being crashed. She paid $90k.
@@bngr_bngr My understanding is that they acquired it in pieces with no body, and the current body was found later. It is not totally unknown, as they took it to Italy for the Ferrari 50th event. I think it was restored in the late 1980s.
Unlike most garage queens, this is a true automotive enthusiast's car. The real luxury in owning a Ferrari is driving a Ferrari.

I feel like she's got some Italian in her family tree somewhere. She's truly passionate about that car. Her comments around no radio, just listen to the engine, the wheels and the road, were spot on. I hope when she passes that this car will be left to someone in their family that will understand how special it is and become its new caretaker. Too many of these rare cars fall into the hands of collectors who just keep them as museum pieces. It’s a car, drive it. If it breaks, fix it. She’s doing it wonderfully.
We are so blessed down in NZ. Middle of winter and we took our '05 Elise out for lunch and a trip north around the Bay of Plenty coast and back down thru the Kaimais. Crystal clear day, top off and bundled up. Magic
