I can listen to Jeremy Black talk about just about anything. My first encounter with him was the documentary he did on the industrial revolution, which I thought was just brilliant. I think it was in that video where he explained how the English system was at such a bigger advantage than the French system and how that kept the French back from progressing in the industrial revolution like the British did. I don't even know - I don't think I can even put it into words how he explained it. He explained that it was inherent in the centuries of how each monarchy functioned and how each monarchy ruled over their country. The only problem I have with Mr. Black is that he can be so rude at times. It is obvious that he is a very impatient man and that is fine. Unfortunately, it's not fine when it is being rude. Of course, this is very minor stuff. The man is brilliant he has written over a hundred books and like I said I can listen to him forever.
I haven’t watched much so far, but slavery did have an economics. It was not simply “a system to abuse the enslaved”. And if this is supposed to be a bad topic, it doesn’t look like it’s succeeding in reaching its intended audience.
20:53 Slaves in America were more expensive than the Caribbean or Brazil, simply because the journey was longer. 22:08 The Chesapeake from early times had endemic malaria (falciparum and vivax), and intermittently yellow fever.
Many enslaved Africans were sent to the Caribbean (Jamaica) in order to be psychologically broken down (seasoning was the term used during the colonial period) and then sent to the US.
@@joanhuffman2166 Consider this. Jeremy Black hosted a conversation about the economics of slavery but omitted any mention of the monumental expense colonial powers had to pay out to suppress insurrections throughout the Americas.
The British were forced to pay reparations to the United States shortly after the American Civil War because they built battleships for the Confederacy.
The Dutch King, Willem Alexander, would have been wise to have listened to this before he apologised on 1 July for the role the Dutch had in slavery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The wealth generated by Dutch slavery still exists in major banks, insurance companies, corporations and government coffers today. It was used in large part to build you entire resource poor nation which only consists of natural gas, peat, limestone, salt, sand and gravel.
The Dutch King, Willem-Alexander should apologize to you. Your taxes support his lavish lifestyle (and) he pays no taxes on his wealth. You're his slave and you don't even know it. Hilarious.

19 mns in and i am amazed,mr black sounds like thomas sowell just mind blowing, wow
I recall reading that in the Ottoman empire the purpose of having a slave was more as a sartorial expenditure than to make a profit.
18:21 In Constantinople women were more expensive than men? I recall reading that eunuchs (Black) were the most expensive. ?

@presterjohn1697 The more you look at history, the more you find that the past was the worst.
@@joanhuffman2166 In the west the past is hidden on purpose to mask the crimes.

@presterjohn1697 It is hard to cover all the facts.

Go figure. A libertarian who co-signs the British state compensating slave holders for loss of private property. The guy revealed himself.
Shouldn't this be titled: "The Case for the Slaver?!" PS: Dr. Black, All armies are slave armies!
BS!! Poor slavers! BS!!!
