Hello, I wanted to thank you for the effort put into these videos, it is really a game-changer for new users like me. Also, I wanted to ask you if you know why I am getting the following error when I try opening the tool manager: 08:47:03 Error loading tool: 45degree_chamfer.fctb : Expecting ',' delimiter: line 11 column 5 (char 267) I Googled it but have not been able to find an answer. I am thinking about reinstalling the app again. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
There's probably a typo in the toolbit file. Toolbits are new and have undergone a lot of change. The good news is that the toolbit file is easily editable. You can open it in any editor. Look at the end of line 11. I bet it needs a comma.
@@sliptonic Thank you for your response! I missed to tell you that I installed tthe latest version 0.19 about 6 weeks ago. Is there a link to a guide on how to fix this issue? Otherwise, I'll try reinstalling the application. Thanks
@@fijabo It depends on what you mean by 'fix the issue'. The specific bug you have is a typo in a toolbit file. It can just be edited and fixed. But the _reason_ that typo exists is more complicated. Toolbits are meant to be customized. The typo might be from an earlier version of the toolbit we released or it might be because you customized it. If you're only using the stock FreeCAD toolbits and tool shapes, and you haven't invested a lot of time customizing your tool library, you can just delete your tool directory and your .FreeCAD directory and restart FreeCAD. The .FreeCAD file will be recreated and it'll prompt you to select a tool location. If you're running the current appimage, there are no known toolbit errors.
Hi, I use freecad v16.6706. on path following your video, I can not do what you do. you use version 0.17. or can I find this version 0.17 that works? Thank you for your videos
Where used freecad ? Is it industry standard ? Want to format as a client output? Learning how to work online or work can be found online. What is its future?
FreeCAD can import and export most non-proprietary industry standard formats. Additional tools are available to import and export .DWG files as well. The application is used by a large and growing community of users that includes both hobbyists and professionals. There are many tutorials on the web. Most are free but some can be purchased. I've even seen a growth in the number of trade schools, and universities that are teaching classes. The future is hard to predict. The project is open-source and the work is done by volunteers who work on whatever interests them.
sorry - don't know where to flag this- I am trying to use 0.19 version of freecad and the tool library is not opening. (0.18.3 works o.k.) the report error says File "/tmp/.mount_FreeCAnxBFkX/usr/lib/python3.7/json/decoder.py", line 355, in raw_decode raise JSONDecodeError("Expecting value", s, err.value) from None Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)
0.19 is the daily development build so things are likely to break from time to time. There has been lots of work done lately on the tool table. If it doesn't resolve after the next daily update, please post to the forum.
@@sliptonic It seems that the tool library is now the tool dock, but does not seem to function like you show here. Can you link to any info that might be found for how to use tool dock?
So frustrating! You jump straight in with a file already open! Where is this file? Then, you go to a button which on my FreeCAD 0.19 only opens the 'Tool Selector'. NOT what you say it does. Then, you refer to tools you've already loaded! What use is that to someone who hasn't already loaded them? Surely you should explain first HOW you loaded them. Enjoyed your first tutorial in this series but 30 seconds into this one and it all falls apart!
This video was published in March of 2018. You're using a version of FreeCAD that was released in 2020. Things have changed. I'd like to renew and update this content but there's only so many hours in the day and like most people, I have to make a living.
@@sliptonic Thanks for responding so quickly. I get your point, shame you don't get mine. There is a huge gap in the flow of your series, between Ep.0 and Ep.1, I see others have also commented on this.
Many thanks for this tutorial from a small country in Central Europe, the Slovak Republic and the from European Union ...
just learning more freecad features, what an amazing video. thanks. :)
Loving these videos. Thanks. Jim
Thanks for this great intro!
can u upload the sample file here in the description so we can the same things with you? it will be great!
After three years it would appear the answer to this is NO! Shame, as without it the video is pretty useless.

@@sliptonic Thank you very much! I really appreciate your help.
Just think-KING aloud : 90 degree cones - intersecting : Tricky cut optimisation - 90 degree tool ? Think I need - 0 width tool : then follow edges
How would you create a plasma cutter tool?
Very few of the tool attributes are used yet. Just use an endmill and set the diameter to your machines kerf.

0.17 is about to be released. Like 'any day now'. There are daily builds available for all platforms.

Yes. FreeCAD allows importing .STP/.STEP .IGES, and many other formats
