- At the June 15, 2016 meeting of the CT Commuter Rail Council, CT DOT's Rail Administrator Carl Jackson announced that the state would honor Westport's request and cancel two commercial leases adjacent to Lot 7, making the land available to the town to create more commuter parking. The entrance to this lot is on Franklin Street, and commuters will have about a three minute walk to the train station.
Westport Police Chief Foti Koskinas, who oversaw the initial planning and application, estimates that Westport will gain an additional 55-60 spaces for commuters, reducing the parking permit wait list by about five percent. He also has support from the local business community in Saugatuck to build a new stairway from the proposed lot down to the street, thereby increasing the parking available in the evening for commercial customers.
