I do windshield repair for several car dealers in my area. A porter used a license plate to scrape ice from the windshield, both door windows, and the back glass. That was a profitable day for me.
I don't think it's going to matter what you use. If you've got dirt / sand on your windshield anything's going to scratch it.
As someone who works at a dealership - it comes factory with buffer marks. They always professionally buff each vehicle before it's shipped and you can see perfect swirls from where dirt got caught in the pad and made thousands of microscratches.
The reason we always give our cars to a detailer before delivery. Not a single car leaves our showroom with a scratch or swirls.
@@BuggyGamer-db6mw Very few dealerships actually have professional detailers that can get rid of those scratches, most will actually make it worse.

From what I’ve seen, Tesla’s have very soft paint. I’ve read stories, and my buddy showed me the results of the first time he washed his parent’s model S. He left swirl marks in the paint while drying it with micro fibers 😬 (yes the paint was clean of any dirt). Anybody else have a similar experience?
Yes they scratch very easily, washing and drying the less contact the better. Don’t give them the earl eye or they will scratch too lol
Better paint on my 2008 Lexus LS after 140.000 miles 😄
Toyota/Lexus Honda/Acura are the only cars I will buy, because they can last forever, if taken care of properly.
Most of the time, we get our cars from dealerships and often some of them have been used. When we got both of our mustangs, we ended up doing all of the buffing work ourselves, which was super fun btw, only 18 and I have a ton of fun changing and fixing my cars, but the mustangs were super scratched and now have no markings or scratches. Super proud of my cars!
Same, I work at a toyota dealership with a used car building and a new car building (new car building and parking lot specifically has toyotas and the used is whatever else we get from the auctions or trade ins) and we have to detail them all by hand, like wash the outside with brushes and power washers and squeegee them. Nothing is more satisfying than making an old/used car look brand new from your own hard work. I'm 21 so I'm not much older than you and I've worked at my dealership for over a year and a half now (november will be 2 years) and it's the best job I've ever had, nothing is more rewarding than detailing and I doubt I'm gonna leave anytime soon. My sales manager told me once something like: never expect from a showroom car to be with no scratches.
Rule #1: never let the dealership wash or detail your car if you care about it. Their processes are designed to be efficient and acceptable, not superb as you might expect.
This is coming from someone that worked the car wash at a highly respected dealership and had a few days of detail experience in the side before leaving. It’s not worth it. Get it done by a pro.
Edit: this is why, I might add, that when my new Supra got shipped in, I specifically asked my dealer NOT to do any wash or detail from the time it rolled off the truck to delivery, even thought it was a nice trustworthy dealership. I probably would trust them with everything except their wash scratching my paint. I wanted it to be squeaky when it got the clear bra installed a week after I took delivery.
now it’s all shiny for when it starts on fire with you trapped inside 😊
This is 100% from brushless carwashes. Before i traded in my 2020 Sentra it had 8,000 miles and the paint was completely new for buying used. I went to one car wash that uses brushes and completely scratched up the paint with swirl marks. Same thing happened to my accord, brought it in for a oil change and offered a car wash. Came back to swirl marks all over both sides of the car as well as the roof. Only bring it to a touch car wash and please keep in mind the brushes there are only for your wheels.
I've seen the factory and they have pallets of brand new dashboards sitting outside in the rain along with various other panels...

It’s a Tesla. Shit build quality is part of the package.
@@Devil914 tesla are really build poorly and there customer service is one of the worse in the industry half the price of the car is the batterie
Note that the paint used by Tesla is water based, this is because they manufacture the cars in California. Water based paint scratches and fades a lot easier than the oil based paint every other manufacturer uses.
Misinformation. You are a Tesla apologist. A simple google will prove almost all car manufacturers use water based paint these days. Tesla just can’t seem to follow the damn directions given by the paint manufacturers to learn to paint cars properly. It’s 100% their fault for being bad at manufacturing and absolutely nothing to do with state regulations. You are a complete clown.
Most dealerships don’t actually train their “detailers” how to do it properly & they’re usually car wash rejects using dirty rags/applicators/ pads & cutting on edge instead of level after complete prep. I know cuz I worked it for years.
When I get my car, you guy’s are doing to get it super right for me! Nice work
The first problem was the customer bought a Tesla and expected quality. Tesla is still learning how to make cars.
I bought a 2013 Honda Civic si. I knew I’m everything that was wrong with the car yet I still bought it. There was so much stuff that was removed and replaced
I work in a dealership and can tell you cars get marked before they even land at the dealership… they are driven on and off trucks numerous times truck drivers squeezing up against the paint trying to get in and out of the cars on the truck. I’ve also seen cars come to the dealership with buffer marks from suppliers.
Its really common for brand new car with like 15km on the odometer to have scuffs and scratches, because dealers decide that the cheaper the shipping the better.
Ighhh I love it when you get scratches out of a car that has new paint. Even just cleaning it is nice (of course will a jetwash and snowfoam and that good stuff)
Imagine a world where people cared as much about each other as they do their possessions…
Not going to happen.
Why won't it happen?
Because F people but I love my car 😅
Manufacturer is allowed a % of damage during building the car and still qualify as 'new'. There's a paint correction shop for scratches and dents.
My thing is this y’all did a great job but for a BRAND NEW CAR doing a 2 step you must remove good amount of the clear coat. I would have taking it back.
oh yeah I get what you are saying. We did have 5.3 mills on their which foe Tesla is surprising lol. yeah they had other issues as well. I am with you I would have done the samw
The amount of paint removed cannot be measured by the quantity of steps…. Menzerna for example could have been used and minimal clear removed, while increasing gloss dramatically…. Pads and tool being used are additional factors that can be argued/discussed for hours. So many variables.
Tesla paint is crap. This is among the best I've seen. Bubbles, blisters and chips are SUPER common
“Purchased from the Dealership” 😂 Tesla doesn’t have one of those which means it’s used
Yeah there's definitely a Tesla dealer here in Denver. Not a joint dealer either. 100% Tesla and Only Tesla
Get ready (aka) the detail department at dealerships are so backed up that the squeegees have debris on them, possibly lot damage, the rolling brushes have clumped on debris at the dealership car wash machines, the rags have debris and finally the buffing machine pads could also have debris. Black is also a probable candidate for spirals.
I can second this. Worked at a Nissan dealership and every new car that came through from a Vera to a 350z they had us scrub them with brushes. Killed me a little every time
These issues are not uncommon in new Teslas. They don’t have the same quality paint at say a Volvo, Lexus, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz or any other luxury car. It’s really not a luxury car in that sense.
I see to have cars come to shop from the main dealer, brand new that had been damaged in transit from the factory to the dealerships. It’s amazing how many cars are damaged.
Bring a flashlight when picking up a new car. Need to give a thorough inspection.
For what? To have Tesla screw up fixing the problems? Did you not watch the video??? Or to reject the car so the next one is worse?? Sheep. 😂😂😂😂

His comments are just Tesla haters who stupidly repeat other things that they've heard but have never experienced firsthand.
He’s not wrong tho… more or less about the shity workers, but just very very bad QA. I’m a fan of Mr. Musk and his teslas and will buy one in the near future but what I’ve seen from friends, family, and everyone that I know that owns a Tesla is that they have their fair share of issues (aesthetics). From the factory almost all of them have some sort of general gap issues and have individual issues like dents, deep scratches, or light scrapes. These cars were purchased around 2020 to late 2021, it could be the influx of Tesla orders causing back orders and undermanned due to laborer shortages. Tesla’s reminds me of McLaren’s outstanding cars but terrible out from the factory. Regardless aesthetics won’t change the performance of the car. All the general common complaints still won’t deter me from buying one, still think it’s sick car and it is the future lol
@Mariahs 2nd lamb i've seen plenty of videos about the paint on teslas as well as body panel issues as well as interior issues.
Maybe thats why they already have miles on them when you get them😅, they get moved in the factory also in the dealership, sometimes during transportation they get scratched. You real funny bro also always inspect your cars when you buy a new car, most dealerships clean the cars thats why they are clean, meanwhile others don't and give you the car as it arrived
Keep in mind.. removing scratches from paint means that you are buffing the clear coat down with grit (compound) down to the depth of the scratch. Then, polishing out the swirls and final coat. Works great but there are longevity issues if not properly cared for. Tesla paint is very thin.
Exactly that is why we use paint gauges to make sure we have enough to work with

I used to service automatic car washes at dealerships. Most of them were pieces of junk, in terrible shape, and used nylon brushes. A lot of the dealers would run the new cars through these machines to get rail dust off the paint.
Really nice. I'm too afraid to polish because I'm afraid to go through the clearcoat.
Beautiful work, looks like glass. Good call on ceramic coating
All manufacturers sell cars claiming they are new when the truth is they have been sat in a field or lot for at least a few month before they give it to you. Nissan would keep some new cars in a field for 6 MONTHS beofre selling them as new..
In the car industry... new, simply means never registered to an owner. Dealers sell program cars as new, despite having been used as demo, VIP/excutive loaner, etc. New car warranty starts the day of purchase and the miles already on the vehicle, do not count towards the covered warranty mileage.
If they haven't been driven or owned by a private party then they're still new. Of course it's going to be stalking in transit times.
I checked in transports for my local chrysler dealership for 6 years, this is quite common from the factory. But most of the time the drivers would damage them in transport, most drivers carry a rag and compound in there trucks. They would try to "fix" scratches thereself to avoid paying.

I have a garage, i don't park near anyone, and I am careful when washing... this explains it = dealer had covered/masked the scratches prior to sale.
It’s not really new cars you have to watch out for, it’s just Teslas terrible quality.
Teslas don't have dealerships. However they do some paint correction at the factory if they see defects. Every manufacturer does this.

Guys, I bought a "New" Ford Contour SVT back in 1999 and they wanted me to take delivery of a dirty car. They so-called apologized and cleaned it up. Like this Tesla Owner, I wasn't happy with their results, and on top of that, I found a few weeks later that the driver's side fender had been repainted possibly from a collision. Admittingly the paint job was well done, but how I found out was under the hood, The area where the fender bolts are located, showed that the screws had been removed and misaligned. The dealer said that they are allowed to repair any damage to a New car as long as it's under a certain dollar amount.
Just because it's New, Check everything you can possibly in and out before you leave the dealer. They are scoundrels and never rely on their fact sheets.
This! Very common to get damaged in Shipping, lot cleaners swirl it up. Lots of things have happen to your “new” car
Good video! I remember working at a dealership and a hail storm came through one night and did a lot of damage to some new trucks. The body shop fixed them by removing the paint on the tops and hoods, bondoing and repainting. They then sold everyone of them, probably without telling.
