I agreed with everything until you said that PJ wasn't a stand out defensively, the guy has been amazing on that end, if he played like he has played in Dallas this whole season he would be in an all defensive team

Yep there’s a reason so much focus has been on his shooting because you can’t take him off the court defensively… and if he’s knocking down 3s I’m not sure how you handle this team
PJ Washington has been amazing, but it's important to remember 7 foot rim protecting centers create defense for teammates the same way that PGs create offense for others. PJ Washington would not have the free range to be as effective as he is right now without the Gaff/Lively combo.
@@nathansora1 100% which is why the Clippers are scary if Kawhi is healthy. The Mavs played Zubac off the floor last series. I believe the Clippers would want a role reversal now and try to force Gafford/Lively off the court going small. Hell Luka might force it again whether LAC wants to or not lol hence why you’re seeing Kidd experimenting with switching everything while Gafford is on the floor.

Grant was a negative defensively and offensively on the mavs idk what his deal was, PJ has been a positive from day 1 and since the start of March has been a MONSTER on the defensive end and has had some great offensive showings as well, he’s still got a ways to go on offense but this guy will be getting 35-40 minutes a night in the playoffs

While probably less likely, I'd take 7-8 being 7. Redemption against the Warriors and 8. End of 1 Dynasty, beginning of another? All the Warriors need to do is win two playin games and beat an inexperienced Timberwolves or Thunder. To me, there'd be something Godfather about it (fitting for Luka the Don) because they took care of all family business by defeating the only teams to ever beat the Mavs in a series. But if it goes the way you say, I'm all for it.
@Tophergr8 I think you're heavily underrating OKC and the Wolves. They have played incredibly well against every team in the league, and now are contending for the 1 seed in one of the most competitive conferences in NBA history. And the warriors have shown to fall off quite a lot with Steph and Klay's decline, and Draymond's immaturity. I find it hard to believe their playoff experience can overlook some very clear flaws in their team.
@@sahilshaji5709 I think the Wolves are more dangerous in the playoffs because of Conley and Gobert's experience. With OKC, the lack of playoffs experience makes me doubt them a bit. Also their rebounding woes, Chet's lack of physicality and Shai's foul baiting especially in the playoffs that the refs tend to favor defense more

@@sahilshaji5709 OKC is small and inexperienced and their weakness is rebounding, particularly defensive rebounding, and the opposite is true of Golden State, who are deadly sending offensive rebounds back out to Curry and Klay. Minnesota is incredibly talented, but KAT (health is questionable) and Gobert both have a history of being neutralized in the playoffs. I may be underestimating them, but it's not for nothing, To me, you can't read too much into the regular season because there are so many different things going on that affect the results and standings. And while Klay and Steph are older and on the back end of their careers, they're still capable of getting hot and destroying an inexperienced team.

The Mavs definitely won the trade deadline. Shout out to Jason Kidd for integrating all of these guys and having them playing their best ball at the right time.

Overall, Mavs is around 18th to 19th in defensive rating this season. After the trade deadline? They sky rocketed top like top 7. Last 10 games? They're 2nd (or 3rd since they really close with Magic) in defensive rating. And this season, they did not fall lower than 8th seed and they are poised to have 50wins this season, though as of this writing they have like 4 games remaining (Hornets, Heat, Pistons, OKC).

How sad is it that in year 6 of Luka, the Dallas Mavericks finally got him a competent center rotation when he's the best PnR ball handler and lob thrower in the NBA. This disaster class of team building needs to be studied. A rushed trade for an injured KP that made them good but not enough to get out of first round, fumbling the contract extension of your 2nd best player the year they go to WCF and replacing him with "Christian Wood"... All the while NEVER trying to get talent at the wing and center for a good defense and resigning Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell instead.
People say "Luka style of play doesn't work" while the Mavs have been a top 10 offense consistently since he's been there. They have no idea what mess Cuban's decisions made of the team, but they shouldn't be surprised, he did the same with Dirk's career. Exact same mistakes, I'm so glad he sold the team.
You are correct it has had a huge impact and you can see that the impact is not only on the way the team is playing defense but on chemistry… The Mavericks move the ball very good and if you watch enough of their games, they are absolute wizards at moving the ball around constantly there are games where Kyrie and Luka completely takeover but overall the ball movement is amazing and everyone is laughing and pumping their fist, and there is true energy there that is very positive that comes directly from chemistry in the locker room…

For sure. It's kind of frustrating as a mavs fan that he couldn't do that here. He had it easy on offense but couldn't produce anything at all. And defensively he was just as bad. PJ, while also inconsistent, has a floor much higher than Grant. At the same time his ceiling is in the sky compared to grant. Pj can lead the team scoring sometimes like he did against the warriors. Pj is also elite on defense despite what the video says. He is everything and more that we wanted grant to be. Sucks we had to lose sm but if the mavs go far it'll be worth it

i would say yes, but at the same time no. we knew from the start what this team is lacking which is a 3 and D guy like finney. adding grant doesn't mean mavs were already a complete team but with his defense i knew his gon add value to the lineup. trading grant williams is losing 1 of our shooters and trading it for 3 and D guy. there's a stat that we've became worse at the 3point line and became better at scoring perimeter and inside the paint. it's really hard to tell if it is an upgrade because there's a big difference between the two on how they contributed for this team. grant is a better low post defender against big guys using his chest and an elite shooter when at his best than pj. while pj is a better perimeter and an on-ball defender against smaller guards with his long wingspan than grant. Grants has been putting up better numbers in the hornets coming off the bench while pj is the exact guy for this team. if only maxi could come back on his old form and replace grant's role using his shooting i wouldn't be mad at all for trading grant. mavs gon miss out big on grants intensity in the playoffs bigtime.
i just don't agree letting go of grant that fast. i don't like most of mavs fans turned their back on this guy and quickly forgot how much grant williams contributed on that winning streak we had early in the season which most people called this team as dark horse. with his elite shooting it started to build expectations to people's head which just led to their own disappointments. people expected him to perform the way he did when he's at his worst, coming back from an injury and by that time most of the mavs were out so his underperformance makes it quite obvious which is very stupid. the locker room issues he had sounds more like a luka's bad personality vs grants attitude or could be vice versa that did not align which i thought both of them would really click but performance wise grant did his job for this team. I'm just here to back him up just like how kidd backs up hardaway with his worse performance these past weeks.
