Hello - wanted to say thank you for this video. I acquired the Ikea sewing machine ( it’s a hand me down) and was so overwhelmed by it. By 40 minutes in I was able to fix some socks and trousers…..sewing machines have baffled me all my life. You have really taught me a new skill. Thank you so much, this was so helpful.
Thank you SO much for making this video! You are wonderful! I did EXACTLY the same thing, bought it from IKEA in 2013, never used it. Then today I decided to try it. Problem is, I have never used a sewing machine before. I was hoping I could just figure it out using the manual and UA-cam. I couldn't get it to pick up the bottom thread. I was trying for hours and getting so annoyed. Finally found your video and it's working now! Thank you!!! Yay!!! 😃
Thank you so much for this video!! A friend gave me her old IKEA machine and I needed to figure out how to use it and this was perfect! I have not used a sewing machine in over 35 years (school days!) so the fact that I was able to get it working so my daughter could start sewing little projects is a testament to how helpful your video is, way more than the included paper instructions. Many many thanks 💜
This is just so great! I literally took my IKEA sewing machine, which was hiding in a corner since it was bought & was still wrapped in plastic, watched you open yours and get ready to sew, went on and made a couple cute window curtains! THE VERY FIRST TIME I USED A SEWING MACHINE IN MY LIFE! I'm so thankful for this, it was so well made and easy! Sending all my gratitude all the way from Italy 👋
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I bought mine in IKEA Ireland in 2013, and am finally returning to use it now. This is amazing, I'm a keen beginner with a tiny bit of experience. Your video is amazingly clear. Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for posting this. I bought one in the north west London store in the UK in 2015 (like you I kept the receipt in the box) and used it a few times, only bringing it out again in 2023. That's when I found out that they'd discontinued selling it in 2016. Managed to get the instruction manual online (no idea what I did with the booklet). The problem I have with it is tension when sewing fabric heavier than thin cotton. Tried adjusting it but can't seem to get it right.
Thank you so much for posting this video! I got mine second hand and at the time there were practically no videos on it online. I just dug it out to try again and found your video! This is my first sewing machine so I really appreciate the detail especially the part about the bobbin! ❤️
I have the same sewing machine, bought about the same time. Only got it out last year to sew masks now i’m after a video that would help retime the needle as it’s not picking up the bobbin thread…. Otherwise i love it.
I have this sewing machine and it works great for beginners. I like it and it does more than I expected with the different stitches. As to the bobbin, that's the only kind I know so if it's "old school" I don't know any different and it's easy enough to use.
LOL! It is very old school. The newer machines don't have that metal contraption to remove and encase the bobbin. Just an opening you pop the bobbin in and usually the thread magically pops up when you bring the needle down.
I’m hopefully making a fursuit and was originally planning on hand sewing EVERYTHING until my mum said that I could use the ikea sewing machine in the video that is in the attic collecting dust so thanks sm from me and my wrists and hand joints! I’m gonna start soon!
Brilliant video. I bought my machine in 2011 in the UK and never used it. Now i am making a dress. thank you do much foR the video makes sewing less scary.
I have never used a sewing machine but want to for my papercrafting, this machine (or a machine like it) will certainly be good enough for that. I have learned so much from you today that i din't know, I'm ready to have a go now! Don't have any plans to become a seamstress though lol XX Thank you for sharing.XXX
So my mom bought this machine for my niece probably about the same time you bought it and she never got around to using it so I asked if I could have it and am just now opening it lol. I know absolutely zilch about sewing so I appreciate this video especially bc it’s the same machine and I had no idea what the instructions were talking about 😆 I’m going to attempt to thread my bobbin tomorrow! (I didn’t even know what that meant until watching this video lol so thank you!)
I love quilts! I had popular videos on my old channel on rag quilts, the type that "bloomed." Those are cheater quilts in my opinion, but i have so many traditional quilt tops done that I have never made into a quilt! That's typical, isn't it?
Thank you so much for this, i don't own this kinda machine but im learning and have been practicing on the WRM Stitch Happy i recently purchased on clearance from Hobby Lobby. I love it, i was intimidated at 1st scared to try but ive watched many tutorials and i am pleasantly please at the results I've come out with. You are so awesome bc you love, to shop, share and review products we all love and want. Tsmfs doll
TBH, I totally forgot that I had bought the Stitch Happy until I ran into it last week when we finally tackled the last few boxes in the garage! Maybe I should review that one, too...I just figured at this point, the reviews on it have already been done! LOL! It's at least 5 years old, no?
@@VianneyCreates it's ok please still do the review...you have everything lady!! Lol and besides being a new crafter this is new to alot of us and are excited to see you bring them back. Well I am personally..ty🤗
TY!! It was so funny, it was still packaged in a generic white box. I was like "what is this?" thank goodness I didn't call attention to it, bc my husband would have flipped out! "Another one?" LOL!! I'll try and review it soon. (:
I remember the Varmax machine you did, I purchased it because of you lol, I never used it, but wanted to see if you was going to try some beginner stuff lol....now I hope my IKEA has this lol
Many thanks! Bobbin threading made easy. Wish I hadn’t spent 15 minutes wasting thread and failing to load my bobbin before finding your very clear video 👏🏻
I have had my machine for almost 10 years. The instructions were terrible without this video it would’ve sat in my cupboard for another 10 years thank you
Thank you sooo much for this tutorial. I just received this exact machine from my mom who never took it out the box...lol. I dont know the 1st thing about sewing, but, I'm confident now about using this machine & replicating the cute bag you made. I'm excited!!!
Hi! thanks for the video. I took this sewing machine from my grandma (she never used it) and I was having trouble figuring out how it works. It's my first sewing machine and it works okay but I can't figure out how the reverse works. I tried to do the same as you did but it ended up stuck in the bobbin and ripped my fabric. Can you help me please? Thanks!
Happy to help! I have one other video using this machine when I used it to make a mask. I don't know that it teaches a lot about the machine itself, but you can see it in action. TY!
Hi ,pls can u tell me what's the needle size for the machine .i have got the same machine but all the needle's are broke and I don't know the size to buy new one.thank you
Thank you so much for vedio.... I have just bought today.... I followed your vedio and started stitching but front it is stitching is super but back it is very loose and so much mess of thread is there... Please help to solve this problem anything I need to set....
I'm a 33 year old guy who is waiting for his wife's immigration process and we are close to getting a new rental. One of my friends was donating some of his furniture and he asked me if I wanted anything. He randomly had this machine fully packed and said his wife bought and never opened lol so now it's mine and I'm actually now interested in sewing. So I can fix my jeans and other things. Can't wait to get started on it!
Hi Vianney any idea why our SY IKea machine the needle has stopped working and the motor is working fine when depress the peddle. Any directions please would be very greatful regards Paul

This is so cute. I have an Old singer from 1974 in a cabinet and it works great. I also have a full size portable Singer but wow, this is so cute. Also paper crafters are sewing paper more these days. I may need this one in my crafting room. My DIL has a tiny one and I was blown away that it has a presser foot. LOL. The button holder foot with the newer machines is really easy to use. Try it. My old Singer had a crazy contraption to do buttons. That decorative stitch is really nice.
Oh yes, I forgot about the ruffling attachment. Ps I meant button holer before. The new ones are easy to use. You just put the button in it that you want to use and that gauges the hole.
@@VianneyCreates thank you. later i will try to fix it and rewatch your video. im so worried because mine doesnt properly does a basic stitch like yours :(
