Yes, I'd be interested in any updates you do on Kilauea as well as Iceland, as long as you have the time to do them. Thank you!
You are the one I trust to keep us current about seismic activity. Thank you, Shawn.
Yes, I find this interesting. I would like you to consider continuing your monitoring and summarizing. Thank you for all you do.
230 years apart hulululai
Once i get enough money, then I plan on taking some former students up to Hawaii to watch some volcanoes and drive as far as were allowed to get near it anyway, sorry I had to correct you on the math lol
@@suecrossgrove the comment about "math" from @jamiedbg51 was a comment on the video referencing the last eruption.. the timestamp starts at 1:51. I'm pretty sure the comment was accidentally put under this post instead of being a main comment post.

Definitely love any coverage on *any* volcanos erupting
What we haven't seen in a while from Kilauea is tall fountaining eruptions (300+ meters) such as Kilauea Iki in '59, Kapoho in '60, Mauna Ulu in '69 and Pu'u O'o in '83.
Hello geology frens! 👋🏽
Outrageous. Those maps are incredibly informative. Thanks Shawn.
I appreciate the data oriented presentation . I hang on every word! Not geology oriented , but you have me hooked! You have a gift and your students and the rest of us are so blessed to have you ! Thanks Claudette from Virginia
May as well watch Hawaii too as we are all a little educated on terms and concepts thanks to Shawn.
I just started looking at the usgs website a few weeks ago since I've been watching you and things in Iceland. Interesting to see the areas that have earthquakes everyday. Very Interesting. Thanks for all you do.
SO grateful for this 20 minute break from TAXES! I much prefer this kind of brain food.
Oof :( Best of luck 🍀
😂😂😂😂
The historical eruptions map is really interesting, and kind of oddly beautiful. Like a graph of the pulse of a volcano region. If you’d like to offer updates on the Hawaii volcanoes, I will watch them with great interest! Just so you know: your videos are an inspiration to me while I am recovering from knee replacement surgery, completed last week. One of my goals is to be able to hike to the kinds of places in your videos! Your videos are providing added motivation while I go through all the painful but necessary rehab. So thank you for the inspiration!! 😊
Great update. I was there in 2017 when the lava was flowing into the ocean. Got an up-close-and-personal view. The seawater was 95 degrees and you could feel the heat. Thanks again.
I've noticed clickbait sites getting carried away the last few days. I do not follow the junk science channels at all. I'm very thankful to see this update from you! This gives me more to watch and think about. I learned today that I did crack a tooth, so more geology helps keep my mind busy while I wait for a root canal to get done. Just what I don't want more health problems. I'm looking forward to your guest appearance next Sunday!
Always love and watch Madame Pele!! Thanks for your valued education.
Thank you, Shawn
Thank you for the update. I like the way you explain it
Yes, this was amazing!! I've also wanted to visit the Big Island of Hawaii. Thank you for describing all aspects of the volcano. Also, for the showing us around the USGS site. I would like you to consider continuing to monitor the Hawaiian volcanoes.
After learning so much about geology from your Iceland videos, I enjoyed watching this one and seeing how the same concepts are used in a different location. Thanks!
Yes, please monitor both Kilauea and Iceland. I am learning so much from you! I am in for the Big Island trip!
Thank you for taking the time to put together another great update for us. You are my go-to source for volcanic updates and overall geological information. Always very easy to follow and informative. I appreciate all your hard work and effort you put into your content
Truly appreciate your reporting on this. Enjoy learning and hearing your thoughts. Ty
Yes! Please monitor Kilauea. I was in Hawaii in 2018 (albeit on the opposite side of the island). The videos that emerged were absolutely amazing. In fact, I watched them every minute and every hour that I could. While that eruption was devastating to the citizens, it was captivating and enthralling in its entirety-everything from the rooster in Pahoa to the coqui frogs that croaked whilst gaseous explosions occurred, to the rift zone that unzipped before your very eyes!
Thank you Shawn. Super happy to see a current update on this region! Been watching it for some time, so it was awesome to hear your take on things. Very much appreciated … 😁
Hej , been following for a short while - very interrested in both Iceland and other volcano activity ! - Your content is very informative , not too long or repetitive - very nice !!
Hi shawn! 👋 from Santa Cruz.🌊 🦈 Love all your videos! 🌋
Any volcanic news is great thanks Shawn, really interesting stuff. And I've been watching your other hiking around programs, looking at the geology of the USA. Really enjoying them. Keep safe and well. Jim Dartford, Kent. UK.
Thank you Shawn. Yes, I would greatly appreciate your insight on Hawaii and Iceland.
Shawn I think you’ve found a really cool niche covering current geo events with a quality scientific/historical + educational perspective… it’s truly needed in a world of pseudoscience and hit&run / sensationalism of today’s media. Keep it up! (I enjoy the videos too!!!)
Thank you. I’m interested in learning about these volcanoes. Thank you.
Keep up the updates...loving all this and i am not a geology nerd but you make it very easy to understand and your iceland stuff has been awesome
Thanks for the coverage!
Definitely keeping an eye on both for any new activity.
Please keep up the updates and your other roadsides and shows that you do. I am very interested in geology and between you and Nick I have been learning a lot. Thank You.
Oh yes! Very interested in keeping up with this.
Yes would love to be kept up to date with Kilauea.
Wow! A lot of information there. Thanks Shawn.
Very interested to hear more please Shawn. All that information is so well presented and is very informative. Wish I was a student now and not back in the seventies. Really enjoying all your postings thanks very much.
It's great to have a Kilauea update from you, Shawn. I've been following the information available on the Big Island eruptions since 2018. Your approach to reporting the events in Iceland has been so educational and very much appreciated. I'd enjoy seeing the same level of coverage on Kilauea. Thank you! 🌴
Absolutely would love to learn more about this situation in Hawaii if you have time!
Thanks!
Undeniably the Coolest geologist in the World. Great info. Thank you Sir.
Love the update on Kilauea. One of my favourite volcanic zones!
Love the updates from around the world. The websites you have for reference are useful and kinda fun to play with. Science should be fun and you highlight how important and fun that valid real scientific websites are.
Amazing earthquake earlier, you could here the rocks crack from the live feed
What feed? I'd like to see.
@@Up2_nogood probably the Kilauea live stream here on UA-cam 😁
@@iamblessed. there's multiple.
Thanks for another fascinating video Shawn.
That was a great update.
Yes, if you have time, this is another very interesting site, especially as it's been 50 years since South Rift zone has been impacted.
i love this one also....thanks for keeping us up to date :)
Yes, very interesting. Thank you for all the information. Love it.
Yes, would love your coverage of this volcanic event.
Thank you for that information. It's great to hear about what's going on .
Thank you! I love geology...especially volcanology!
Thank you Shawn 😊 fascinating lesson 😀 😊
Any drone connections with the island? Just curious, love the ones you do in Iceland.
Not now. Most of the active areas are in the national park where no drones are allowed.
Love the video, how come Kohala is extinct compared to Haleakala? What happened to have one so far away still active but one close by inactive
Yo thanks shawn! was hoping to hear from you. From LFI, and DAS:)
Thanks so much. I'm definitely interested. I followed the local reports in 2018. Fascinating.
Fascinating. Thank you.
I’ve been fascinated with Kilauea since I was young seeing homes burn on tv footage of the lava flowing through a large subdivision. Please do keep updating!
Yes, I love watching your updates and your geology knowledge. I find it fascinating, and you give the history. Whatever you feel like doing, you at least have an audience of one.
Thanks, Shawn! Super interesting info on Hawaii 🎉
Thank you Shawn. I learn a lot from you. These are very interesting events.
Yes I have followed Hawaiian volcanic activity also for years so would appreciate updates on that as well as Iceland and European updates. Your explanations are great. Thank you
Thanks for that Shawn. It’s very interesting to see what is taking place geologically around the world. Hi from Australia, Nth Queensland!
Thanks for the data rich, sensible update on current volcanic activity on Hawaii. This stirs memories of my first visit, for the July 11, 1991 total solar eclipse. Equally memorable is the helicopter flight the next morning out of Hilo. After flying up a few canyons to the north to view waterfalls, we headed south to follow the lava flows up towards Pu’u O’o. The cloud ceiling was low. Even our pilot got excited. For the first time in several days there was just enough ceiling to reach the vent which we hovered over, then followed the flow down to the ocean. I had two Nikons around my neck; another trove of 35mm slides waiting to be digitized.
Would love to see updates 👍🏻
Thanks Shawn! Very nice update on Kilauea volcano. I'm also following Iceland updates. But I would love if you go on monitoring Kilauea and sending your analysis and updates .
Very informative.
Yes, both would be interesting monitorating.
Worldwide updates would be great!! Lots going on with our dynamic planet crust.
Mahalo. From east rift zone Hawaii.😊
Planning a trip to Big Island in Sept and just told my brother Kilauea was nothing to worry about and now tonight I see this.
Thanks Shawn, I live on the Big Island now. I have a friend that's a volcanologist and he has about the same opinion as you. I actually live on the saddle between Hualalai and Mauna Loa. It's quite safe in my exact area. I have friends in Lei Lani and Kapoha that lost their homes in 2018.
Yes, please include Kilauea (and any other potential volacoes) on the radar. It's been fascinating learning how geologists can use seismic data to infer magma movement and predict volcanic activity.
Yes please. Very interesting.
Thank you for the update. Also been following Ireland's situation. So sad to think the folks there may lose their homes😢.
Brilliant Shawn
just what i been wondering about i check earthquakes here everyday thank you shawn
As a former geology student, I’d be interested in a field trip
I have bottles from volcano house on Kilauea, neat little memories.
Interesting, especially with the seismic/volcanic activity currently underway on Iceland too.
following volcanic activity in Hawaii is really interesting thank you
My favourite geologist.
Hi Shawn, informative as always. Do you think, you can make in the future an update or a general video about the japanese volcanoes, or do you think you're to unfamiliar with them?
I live on Hawai'i island. I'm in the Puna district and I thought over the last few days I was feeling a few earthquakes. I checked the HVO site this morning and yep, there were obviously a few that were large enough to be felt. I do usually give a report to the USGS website on larger earthquakes I feel. Mahalo for the video and aloha.
keep monitoring!
Definitely interested in updates from Hawaii as well as Iceland. Have been fortunate to visit both places and find them fascinating.
Thanks Shawn. I've been keeping tabs on Kilauea for more than 20 years. Iceland has been an interesting distraction.
Thanks Shawn, i would like hawaii and iceland covered. Its so interesting
Whatever you can fit us into your schedule. Teaching and your family are important chucks of your time.
Definitely interested 😊
My family and I are visiting Maui right now! Very interesting for sure
Aloha! Thank you for covering this. I seem to remember the one from a few years ago flowing over where there was mining for heat or something possibly connected. On Oahu we only experienced the Vog. I have a photo comparing Diamond head on a clear day and on a voggy day. I need to look for it. Thank you again for your coverage of Iceland and now Hawaii. It really is interesting to learn how active the earth actually is.
Thank you so much. I’ve been delighted to have found your channel (thanks, Iceland). It’s pretty cool to come home from a long day of work (I’m a therapist in Tucson) and know that every few days or so I’ll get a “class” in geology and volcanology. Your talks and visual aids are really helpful in getting a small grasp on this interesting subject, about which I’m surprised to find myself quite curious. I feel my 68-year-old brain perking up!
I caught the opening of the vent nearest to Grindavik on a live stream. I saw the wisps of steam begin to rise from the ground, told myself, “No, it can’t be”, then saw the lava emerge and grow in quantity. I thought it was one of the coolest things I’d experienced in a long while. To later watch your video and see the event again, this time with a professional who appeared to find the experience to be as cool as I’d thought it was, was quite gratifying! You’re spiffy at being both scientist and teacher. I truly appreciate your time, effort, and willingness to share your knowledge and expertise with us!👏🌹
Thanks for your support, encouragement, and kind words.
Back to normal at home & trying to catch up on UA-cam videos. Looks like my Volcanic experience is extending beyond Iceland 👍
Of course, I’ll be following ANYTHING you put up! And yes, I am 1000% interested in your Hawaii 2025 field trip. I will be retired by then and open to all field trips. Thank you!
Please monitor both Iceland and Kilauea. Great science. Thank you
Thanks for the info. Exciting!? I am going to the Big Island in 3 weeks! Yes, I would be interested on a field trip in 2025.
