You got VERY lucky! This could have turned out really bad for you. Even though I chase storms myself, I definitely wouldn't recommend staying next to a window if this happens again. Even the rear flank downdraft and inflow on the edges of the tornado can be deadly. Congrats on a great vid though!

@@BrandtD You knew if was earlyer an f 2 ? seems it weekend to a 1 or zero going by you or all most over you. then it regained its strength to an F2 again. Abit scary for tornados don't know what they are. lol Good vid and i'm sure the National weather service and news would love to put you in the News. they probably did wile you got your benefits? not usuall for tornados in some areas.

GEESH! You were right there weren't you!? It was shocking how they didn't set off the tornado sirens, at least not from what I remember or heard in your video. We got hit by the Nov '13 one and got the tail end of this one. It was terrifying, but man you got some great footage didn't you? All I saw was grey sky. BOO! Hah! Great video though :)

As soon as my sister and i went into our house, it hit us... The house next door across from dan's was completely gone.

Kokomo does not have tornado sirens.

    • @BrandtD

      +squiddy7863 You sure about that?

    • @squiddy7863
      @squiddy7863 8 років тому +2

Yes. Haynes International owns 4 sirens on the west side of town at their plant used for industrial emergencies and also set off for warnings and the Taylor Township FD has a siren on the south side of town and one SE of town. Those are the closest sirens to the city. The city of Kokomo does not own any sirens, but they probably should...

I've been going around today commenting on videos of this one and the one a week before it, but had to leave a comment here too... I was in the basement at IUK when this went through, so only about half a mile from the path. About an hour after it had passed I left campus, I drove just a block north, and at Washington & Boulevard, there were already big branches down, once again probably more than half a mile from the main funnel's path. I decided to just leave town for the day and not try to see any damage, the traffic was already backed up horribly. Of course, once I got home I heard more tornadoes were headed that way and something like 5 more touched down in Howard County through the evening.
A few days later I went back and drove by Markland Mall... of course, we all know about how that Starbucks ended up, but the Cedar Crest neighborhood on the opposite side of 31 from Markland Mall was decimated. I'm not sure which neighborhood this one is, but I definitely saw similar and worse damage in other parts of town, so it's crazy to watch it unfold in real time here.
It's so surreal watching this kind of thing happen to areas you know well.

You just got the edge of that tornado. Man! Did you just leave the camera there and go downstairs? I heard a door close, so I thought that's what you did. It sounded like it just cut off by itself. That was horrific! I've lived through two tornadoes, an F5 and an F4, ten years apart on April 4, 1974 and 1984. Ypup. I was hit by the last tornado in the Super Outbreak of 1974, and ten years to the day later, (and almost 12 hours), I got hit by a double-vortex tornado. We were very lucky both times, even though our houses were somewhat damaged on both occasions.

Also, just an FYI: I'm totally blind and have been all mhy life, so I really enjoy listening to these videos.
